Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

p. 433: AlpenFury launched coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

To quote the press release from CF. So we can stop the 74/85 debate.

Riders on Behemoth will board never-before-seen open-air trains that feature unobstructed views of the coaster’s 5,300 feet of steel tubular track. Featuring an 85-degree first drop, banked twists, turns and massive hills that will give riders extreme “airtime,” Behemoth will be the largest investment in the history of Canada’s Wonderland.

It "Clearly" says 85 degrees.

^ That's been mentioned many times before, and yet the debate rages on.

There's just some people who have bought in to this conspiracy theory, and think that the press release was wrong.

From the start I've thought people are making something out of nothing. Wait until the drop is built, then you can debate if you think the drop isn't 85 degrees. Don't look at a teaser rendering and claim it's some sort of to scale blueprint.

Man does Italian Job look pathetic in that photo. Almost flat.

That drop is looking pretty sweet. No matter WHAT angle it is.

Very true. No matter what the angle is, it's definitely steeper than any of the other traditional B&M hypers. (Not counting SheiKra or Griffon, of course.)

Personally, looking at it from a side view, as I do daily on my way to work, I think the drop looks quite awkward. It's as though the track got built to about 65/70 degrees down and was going along fine... and then the builders noticed, "Oh sh*t, it's supposed to be EIGHTY degrees!" and then just built the track a bit steeper to get to the required 80 degrees for about ten feet. Seriously. About the mid-way point of the drop, from a side view, it seems to suddenly get a steeper angle of descent. I suppose this is probably the case on a lot of hypercoasters, but to me it looks funny.

However, from the picture posted here, the drop looks damn sweet.

It's also levelled out at the bottom and I believe they're starting work on the second hill today! I can't get into the parking lot with my car anymore so I likely won't get much closer than I can see from driving along Jane or Rutherford... but it's coming along quite nice, and the station is being completed at a high rate of speed!

This angle makes it look like the crane smashed into the drop, bending it backwards.

The drop twists and curves near the bottom, so that's probably what's making the drop look so weirdly shaped.

Aha! I thought it looked extremely odd and then when you said this I remembered and you are correct. I've made similar drops in no limits and I can say for sure that's why it looks odd.

It is possible that they decided to change the angle before they started building, but they didn't want to change it on the website? Maybe B&M thought it wouldn't be as comfortable with a 85 degree drop and they just wanted it to be more like a graceful B&M should. It's not like anyone is going to go out there with a protractor and measure it.

I would say by the time the official annoncement is made, the coaster design would have been completed, and B&M would be happy with it. The renderings etc came along with the press release, and I would assume these renderings are pretty much the exact layout from B&M's design software.

Its possible it was changed but they stuck to the original statistics for the press release anyway, or even a mistake in communication somewhere. Or the fact relates to something like the track angle through the turn or helix etc, not the 'angle of descent'. Whether or not its 85 degrees, and the reason for the press release saying it is may remain a mystery. Or maybe its even a typo.

^ They might just be taking the cars off for the winter. (and possibly maintenance)

I was more confusd as to why it's sitting in the up position. You shouldn't be able to see it like, as when not running it should sit flat. I'd guess it's only up while they're taking the cars off?
