mcjaco Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 It was a trip...a 10 minute drive to the mall! lol I live 10 minutes from Woodfield Mall in Illinois, so I can only imagine what a nightmare traffic on the interstate might be like 10 minutes from MOA. Getting in and out of MOA is ten times easier than getting to and from Woodfield. I hate that mall even more than Gurnee Mills.
Sticky Nicky Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Very cool, but now that Pepsi is still involved, I wish that the coaster would be painted brown and call it Pepsi's Brown Streak. That would go down as best coaster name ever.
kraken613 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Heres a posted pic of the webcam! SURFBOARD!
Vffreak07 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Hopefully they'll learn to run two trains. . .
TheRapidsNerd Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Hopefully they'll learn to run two trains. . . Especially on Avatar. What's up with those boomerang 1 train ops? Couldn't resist. So the color scheme for Orange streak is green tracks and supports, orange train with green stripe, and blue station with various shades of blue circles? Hmmm.....I've gotta rough model this...Be back in a while.
coastercrazed49 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Looks cool, can't wait to see some testing footage of the avatar in action.
TheRapidsNerd Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Ok, based on Looty's details posted above, this is a VERY rough vis of the COLOR SCHEME only. Obviously POS (LOL! now that's a great acronym!) is tivoli type coaster with long trains and they don't look like cars. Same for station. Rough arch type thing. Not meant to be a final whatsoever. Just a guess. That said, here ya go... And, I had time a couple weeks ago, so I modified an included half-pipe track and threw together a quick quasi-spring tower. Eye-searing LEDs not included. Stripe close up. Overview.
TheRapidsNerd Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 ^Best... concept art... EVER! Best compliment ever and it gave me a good laugh. Thanks man, and no, I'm not quitting my day job.
LiquidForce Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 yeah they did a really good job with the parking ramps at the MOA and the parking is free...seems like you have to pay for parking everywhere these days
Looty Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 They hardly ever use the second train on Ripsaw. They put it on when ridership is expected to be over a certain number and when they have the proper staffing. It takes four employees to run Ripsaw with 2 trains, and the crowds in the park over the last year haven't been strong enough for two trains...but I can almost guarantee that you'll see two trains often this year for Nickelodeon. The mall is expecting an additional 2 million visitors this year just for Nick Universe!
Rideslover Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I went to the Mall of America in 1998 that I rode Pepsi Ripsaw Roller Coaster, Screamin' Yellow Eagle, Treetop Tumbler, Flying Kite, Paul Bayern's Log Flume, more that is cool that I never went on ride Timberline Twister since so I could go there and let me ride on all and new roller coasters are there.
TheRapidsNerd Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 From the Avatar web cam, the crane has moved on. Over at sponge bob, there was a cement truck and looked like some new forms being built. Oh, and there was some dust on the Sponge Bob loop. Just kidding.
Golfie Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Any news that the new trains will include more leg room? I remember last time I was there, the ride was uncomfortable and cramped... plus I've gotten taller since then.
nomorefloor Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 what are the wooden things under the coaster? anyone know? under the loop?
kraken613 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 ^ They are for fences im pretty sure. It where the wait is going to be I think.
steel Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Paul Bayern's Log Flume Paul Bunyan's Log Chute
Golfie Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Those are for concrete to be poured into to make curbs. I'm pretty sure that's the entrance to the queue.
COASTER FREAK 11 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 The curbs will look like this when the wood is removed
ETapley0687 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 ^ Good question. They often used green slime but at the same time the Nickelodeon slime splashed logo is orange.... I was wondering what those wooden things were for under SB too. It didn't click to me that would be part of the queue.
Golfie Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 ^This was probably made as an aesthetic choice which wouldn't cause the public to think it's some kind of dirty algae-filled water. The fountain will convey the same message, though.
TheRapidsNerd Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 By way of the webcams, it seems the cement edges are curing for the que lines under Sponge Bob. Anybody out for a new round of pics?
