stormrider Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Looks like the new Glencoe Algebra Readiness textbooks have kept up with the times and replaced their old "Arrow Dynamics" cover with B&M roller coaster s http://glencoe.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0078777372/student_view0/ http://www.glencoe.com/sec/math/prealg/prealg05/index.php4/ca I think that's Silver Bullet. Has anybody else found references in their textbooks to roller coasters? I'm sure all math textbooks have them. There was one about steel phantom in my Geometry textbook and one about the Cyclone in my Pre-calculus book.
Gnome Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Our school's Algebra II book has Montezooma's revenge on the cover (from when it was still yellow) I also remember a science book I had in the 8th grade had a whole article on the Wild Thing at Valley Fair, and it's designer.
bulldogmom Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Looks like Silver Bullet, from what I can see. Even the promise of rollercoasters wouldn't entice me to open a math book! I guess it's a good idea, though.
CoasterNut17 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 My math book last year had Magnum on it. My math book this year has a whole page about Paramount's KD! I thought it was pretty cool!
riccoaster Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 whats weird is my 6th or 5th grade math book had a few problems about Six Flags Over Texas and Cedar Point.
steel Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 My 7th grade math book had a section about Cedar Point and my Science book in 8th grade had a picture of Manhattan Express in it.
christianscoasters Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 In my science book this year, they had an unknown Shwarzkopf looper and Python at BGE.
tigerxeyez Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I'm not sure what coaster this is, and it's pretty small. Here is a picture of my text book from my college computer class! http://product.half.ebay.com/_W0QQprZ48255712QQcpidZ1355020297
stormrider Posted May 15, 2007 Author Posted May 15, 2007 That one looks like Kumba. I like how when those roller coaster related problems give you formulas for velocity/etc. they neglect friction all the time. I thought that even a science textbook would have friction in it but it didn't.
ghost007jas Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 My chemistry book had a problem about Kings Island.
FeelTheFORCE Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 My Physics book had a whole section asking questions about the Demon Drop. My math book had another small one in it, but I can't remember what it was, and I already turned my book in.
redfoot12 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I wish my textbooks had had roller coasters in them.
BeemerBoy Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 My chemistry book had a problem about Kings Island. That sounds about right.
YoshiFan Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 My marketing book had a picture and comment about the Magic Kingdom in WDW. My management operations book had a picture of the Imagination Pavillion in Epcot and talked about how Disney manages lines. In the school bookstore, I saw a physics book with a SLC on the cover.
Homer Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 My Algebra I textbook back freshman year had a picture of Corkscrew at Sea World (in Austrailia). Also, my Algebra II textbook I have this year had Dueling Dragons in the first chapter. Wow, I'm lamer than Jahan for posting in here .
chavslayer Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I saw some science textbook that had a picture of Nemesis in it.
coasterdude5 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 My Algebra II book has Kumba inside of it, but it's a bad shot and before the new paint job. Still cool to look at, though.
coasterfreak101 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 The cover of my Algebra II book has Montezooma's Revenge on it. It needs a nice, big Intamin or B&M though...
Myself Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 My algebra book has three pictures: -One is of Magnum at CP -One shows a fairground of sorts that I can't identify -One shows a bunch of brochures for various places (most non-parks), but one has Drachen Fire on it and another has PKD's Eiffel Tower (It actually says PKD on it, so it isn't from any other place. No it doesn't have the initials)
tigerxeyez Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 My boyfriend and I were thinking it was Kumba too!
coastermaniac123 Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 I have a Spanish Book with a small fair like coaster in it and I have a Science book with a coaster from Japan.
Angry_Gumball Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 I do recall seeing Carowind's Vortex (Which I thought was Great America's Vortex altered to a reddish color back then) on my 6th grade mathbook cover. I do also recall seeing Magnum XL200 and I think I remember seeing Monty on the covers of a mathbook. For my speech class, they actually had a sample speech from a coaster enthusiast (on crack I'm assuming) as he raised the topic of Arrow and being one of the top designers of the world today. After reading that, I kinda chuckled and wondered if the enthusiast had only ridden Arrow coasters.
texasgiantrules Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 My Algebra I book had an article about Steke Okamoto in it, and my Geometry I Book has a few problems about Spaceship Earth. My Science book had some woodie in it...i think it might have been the Beast.
