arrowfanman
Hilton's jail term cut to about 23 daysToday at 9:52 am Paris Hilton will serve about half of her 45-day jail sentence and will be separated from the general inmate population, authorities said Wednesday. The hotel heiress will spend about 23 days in a "special needs housing unit" at the Century Regional Detention Center in suburban Lynwood, Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said. Her sentence was shortened after jail officials gave her credit for good behavior, Whitmore said. Officials considered several factors in calculating the credit, including that she appeared for her latest court date, he said. Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates, he said. Like everyone else in the 2,200-inmate facility, Hilton will get at least an hour outside her cell each day to shower, watch television, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone, he said. The 26-year-old socialite was sentenced to jail this month for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. A judge ordered her to report to jail by June 5. A call to her lawyer, DUI specialist Richard Hutton, was not immediately returned. Her publicist, Elliot Mintz, declined to comment. Copyright © 2006 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. There are two things wrong with this article. One, that her sentence has been shortened and she's going to be separated from the general convict population. Two, the article keeps saying "about" 23 days. Which means she could even get off the hook earlier, unfortunately. This is why people dont have faith in the system--because it isn't consitent in cases like this. And on the argument that she is a "petty tax burden upon tax-payers"...I'm pretty sure we're now paying MORE to house her in this other unit. -Jahan
piggy4891
^Like I said her jail sentence will be cut in half. She is one sneaky bastard.
bulldogmom
As for her being separated from the general population, this is standard practice with any "high profile" inmate. I can imagine her being in jail is going to be a big headache for the jail staff, which would be much worse if she was in the general population. They do this not only for the safety of the inmate, but also to try to keep things as normal as possible in the jail. Hopefully the experience will cause her to take some responsibility for her behavior. PS- I'm a probation officer, that's why I know this stuff. Ccron10
There still might be a chance for her to get that 90 jail term! We just need to hope that she doesnt go to jail when she needs to and she'll get it!

As much as I think Paris is an airhead waste of space and time, I would never wish harm upon anybody, and throwing her in with the main inmate population... I can't even imagine the threats she'd get coming from the money she does, and there would be a chance of her seriously getting hurt. And in controlled situations, routine is important for the other inmates and staff, she would disrupt that. BUT, reducing her sentence? WTF?? Good behaviour?! What exactly is this "good behaviour" they speak of? Not committing any felonies in the week or so since she was sentenced? Showing up for her court date? Ridiculous. She should do the 45 days she was originally given.
Jew
Unfortunately LA county jails are extremely over crowded, so stuff like this happens all the time in order to make room for inmates with longer sentences.

Airtime&Gravity
medical reasons??! Celebrities like her need to serve their full sentence. I'm sick of having a chunk of news time devoted to how these people drink, drive, do drugs, and nothing happens. Even after this, we treat them like gods.(well maybe not Paris) Airtime-society is so messed up-&Gravity
verticalzero
Does not matter who you are and if your famous, anyone can be sent to jail if they brake the "law". She get's what she deserves and this may teach her not 2 drink n drive.

map2
Im so tired of celebrities with special treatment. I heard that she can throw parties at her house under house arrest?!?!?!?!? Its very hypocritical because she got in trouble for being intoxicated when shes not supposed to, but now shes able to drink when she really shouldn't?!?!? Im so tired of celebrities who are too stupid and irresponsible to control themselves.
spaceace12
Yahoo is reporting that Paris has to be in court tomorrow to see if she has to go back to jail and to see if the jail commander had the right to release her. I could care less, just get her off my tv.

Blazen_AZN
I don't nderstand what everyone's deal is with Paris Hilton. Sure, she's famous for nothing, but thats not her fault. I mean, atleast shes not like some girls, *cough* Lindsy Lohan *cough* who are doing drugs and stuff. Besides, she knows how to acessorize. Every little girl needs somone to look up to for acessorizing!

If it was you or me who was sent to jail for that we would still be there now and would be doing the full 45 days (possibly more). Besides, she knows how to acessorize. Every little girl needs somone to look up to for acessorizing! Yeah, but there must be more better role models/people to look up to than Paris Hilton. Airtime&Gravity
Guess showing up one hour late didn't help. Well given how upset she was when she was told to serve here entire sentence she'll stop acting so spoiled....maybe not. All we have to do now is imprison all celebrities who break the law, and I'll be happy.
