Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

P. 1989: Wicked Twister's permanent closure announced!

Recommended Posts

She's a great coaster. That helix is a reminder that this thing is fun to the end.

^ Although Magnum still gets the best ridership in the whole park.

What do you expect, it's not an Intamin. So it is actually going to be a thing called "open".

Well, I never need an excuse to got to CP but gatekeeper gives me one!

Any idea of a TPR trip? My last group was....not quite the same level of intensity I was and had real patience issues (over 30 minute line they bounced and we did the f**kin mine train like 7 times)

It's nothing to do with down time, it just has an astronomically higher capacity. That's why there's never a line.

Operations are very smooth and quick on Magnum. Plus many days, Millie only runs two trains.

This coaster is SEXY!! I love my B&M just like my women: curves in the right places. Super stoked for this ride, but I don't know where I will be come opening day. Capacity is high for this ride. The website is saying 1700, which puts it in the ballpark as Raptor and Millenium. But truthfully, it is all up to the crew and how well they work. Management always has their eyes on the latest attraction to monitor their efficiency.

When I worked Raptor, we had competitions with Magnum's crew to see who had more riders. We usually did them on Saturdays because that's when we had the longest lines. It would suck if we lost because we had no line and we sent half trains. I see Gatekeeper's line full all day long, which would lower MF, Maverick, and Dragster lines. Which they might run 2 train ops on MF more often. I hope they don't do that. I hope to see attendance increases, and park being full, and 3 train ops on everything. Gatekeeper will do its job. "If you build it, they will come."

Does anyone have any idea what date Coastermania will be? Will they keep the new July timeframe or head back to early June again?

Friday June 7th.

Thanks for the info! I really hope the park opens this thing May 11. They haven't opened a new major ride on schedule since Skyhawk in 2006! So far from what I've been seeing, the weather has been cooperative.

CP just posted this on their FB page:

Another "key" milestone is coming up on the construction of GateKeeper! The two keyhole towers are getting ready to be shipped to Cedar Point. These will help welcome guests on Opening Day, May 11th and thrill guests on GateKeeper.

How so? This ride looks to be fun and smooth, with some great elements that seem to be great for this style of seating. Sure it wont be forceful, but the bottom of the first drop, the camel-back, and the dive loop seem to have a good bit for a wing coaster.

It just feels like this ride will be slow with a not-so-special layout. This is just a gut feeling but after a year or 2 i think this is going to be a ride that won't get too much attention from people in the park and us enthusiasts. Point being I'm probably the least excited for Gatekeeper out of the 4 major new USA coaster additions.

Soo...don't ride it. Save it for the people who want to.

I don't really understand how anybody can bash coasters the way they do, even before they open. Everybody finds SOMETHING to complain about. They scream for more airtime, more speed, yet criticize Skyrush for being too short and for the restraints..? Then say we want taller and faster, more comfortable, then complain that gatekeeper looks boring..? I seriously want to know what coaster dorks want from these companies, like what would actually be the prime coaster to rule all coasters? You can't have all of it in one coaster, so just enjoy this coaster for what it is. That's why parks have more than one coaster!

I personally would ride Skyrush millions of times and just get over the leg pain, because it was THAT good to me, yet I would also ride Diamondback over and over again because it is very comfortable and very smooth. They're different, but they have their own individual advantages and disadvantages. The whole point is that they provide variety. Just accept this coaster for what it is, get on it, scream, have fun, then go ride some other coasters. CP is the greatest amusement park in the world for its VARIETY, not any one coaster there...

It's not like Manhattan Express is being moved to CP or anything...

I can understand bashing a roller coaster if it completely lacks any thought and it looks like it was just thrown together, *ahem knotts berry farm*, but Gate Keeper looks to be the exact opposite. From a ride stand point in the catalog of rides that Cedar Point already offers, this will be a nice variation. Cedar Point hasn't built a large looping coaster for a long time now. Maverick does go upside down, but the inversions appear cute and small visually in comparison to gate keeper. Also, in terms of a design stand point for B&M, this ride, while offering some similarities to their other attractions, also varies enough to provide a unique B&M attraction that, in my mind, stands apart from many of their other cookie cutter attractions.

If you are going to bash a ride, this, in my mind, doesn't seem to be the one. I'm very excited to read the reviews for it.
