P. 2037: Siren’s Curse tilt coaster announced for 2025!

MAVERICK OWNS! ...at least it did the second time. I rode it twice. Once on sunday, once on wednesday. first time, the headbanging was unbearable, but the second time was great! ^_^ my favorite part is the curve right after the second launch. very intense. my second fave at CP is Millennium force, even though the queue is truly one of the worst i have ever been in. oh yeah, and dear whoever said wicked twister sucks:I will make you ride the horrendously painful mantis for eternity until your legs explode.

Honestly the ride is way over hyped and is proving to be a "fanoy" favorite even though the overall ride is terrible. Way too much whipping at the begining of the ride for me. What could have been nice transitions end up being nasty choppy turns which cause TOO MUCH head banging to even be considered fun. Once you get through the canyon it is fun with the floater hill and horseshoe. I like the launch tunnel, but hate course after it. Honestly, why would anyone think that a curve after a launch is a good idea? I wish they would have reconsidered some of the transitions near the start and finish as it would have been a much better ride. But the overall choppy movements added to those nasty OTSR that Intamin thinks they need to add to their rides now, provides a terrible ride experience. The only thing that I could do to make it better was to make myself as "big" as possible when riding so that I wouldn't move in the restraint. Too many brace positions to list.... screw this I'm going to go queue for Millennium Force now, which is much better and is FUN to ride.

^ Sounds like someone just doesn't know how to brace themselves. I was fine when I rode it, my head didn't bang around at all. That airtime hill is not floater air, MF has floater air, on Maverick, you are literally pulled down in the hardest ejector air I have ever felt. But, hey, different people have different opinions, I guess.

^No, you see the that's the thing, I did brace myself. I don't think that having to BRACE yourself to even tolerate a ride constitutes the ride being "fun" and the "best ride ever". No in my book that constitutes as a ride that sucks and should have been designed to handle the forces better.

The only good thing I can say about the ride is -- thank God Arrow didn't build it.

^ Yeah, good point.

I was just looking at old construction pictures on CP's site, and one of them said that they filled all of the supports with sand to reduce noise, no wonder it's so quiet. I wonder what it would sound like without the sand.

I don't think those transitions are choppy at all, theyre smooth but quick, but they wouldn't thrust you to one side each time it happens. The Intamin OTSRs aren't that annoying, your shoulders don't even touch the shoulder bit anyway. I don't really even see why they have to be there in the first place, even when going upside down with just lap bars on Intamin coasters would be fine. Swoosh you are the only one who has complained, so that must say a lot about the ride in terms of the fun riding it, everyone else loves it!

Alot has to do with rider height and more spefically a riders torso height. The longer your torso the more you hit the restraints.

The second is how people choose to ride. Some ride holding on, or, in generally resisting the forces put upon them. When the ride goes right, they lean right to fight the motion going left.

Then, some people ride like rag dolls. They think you should be able to relax and just go limp and the ride wont move you around. Ive run into a few people who do that and then when they are told to sit with their head firmly against the headrest (and dont) then complain, Ive got no sympathy.

If you are grossly tall, nothing you can do. If you dont ride defensivly on some rides, your fault. Ive ridden Maverick both ways and yes, one way is far more "rough" while the other way is very smooth.

I went on Maverick and it was good clean fun. I really rode Maverick as test to all the hype it got, and it impressed me to no end.

But, in general Maverick is a ride that cannot be missed and will thrill generations to come and after I move from Michigan to Florida, when I'm older.

I was literally hanging outta my seat at the crest of the first drop, it was incredible. I highly recommend this to anyone, it is pure and thrilling and CLEAN fun.

Need I say more? wait, the headbanging issue, yes.

A couple of you said your shoulders don't reach the restraints? you do when you fall outta seat at the crest on the top of the first hill, yes. But however you get little or no headbanging whatosever.

In my book Maverick gets a:

Maverick: 9/10

Really? I think it is more of the people who think it was "meh, OK" just are not saying anything for fear that fanboys will criticize them. You know it is ok to not like a ride because it could have been better. After riding almost 500 coasters in my life I am allowed to say I do not like a ride because it should have been better.

Also like I have stated before most of the people I talked to were very hesitant before giving a response on what they thought of the ride. Most were like "It was OK, but I won't be running back to get in line for it."

So once again, I am just one of the few that are actively speaking out against all of the fanboy craze and saying that the ride is not the "bomb" or the "sh!t" it is just another ride that could have been engineered better and been a whole lot better than what it is in its current state.

Really? Because I was at the park yesterday and everyone I talked to LOVED the ride and said it was great fun. It has to be that you're too tall or too short or something, because my rides were very smooth with no headbanging at all. The turns provide laterals, get over it, it was nothing bad. I didn't notice any problem with the turn after the launch, in fact the only part of the ride I thought was uncomfortable was the stengal dive.

Maybe it was just running bad on the day you went, or maybe it was running GREAT the day I went, but to say that this ride is bad is an insane statement. I know that you are probably just going to write me off as a CP fanboy who is in love with any ride at CP, but that is NOT the case at all. I got this screen name before I became a real enthusiast and I hate it now. I am NOT a CP fanboy!

Wow, that sounds really mean, it's not supposed to be though. I'm just saying that my ride was extremely smooth and fun. And either you are intolerant wildness, or you are too tall or something.

Yep, same here, I didn't hear one person say it was bad or complain about it.

Ya you are right Cedar Point is such a bad park and Maverick is horrible, only huge fanboys could like that ride.

I know TPR is full of people who love to hate Cedar Point and everything they do, but give it a rest.

My first trip ever to CP was Memorial day weekend and Maverick is my new #1 steel with #2 being S:ROS at SFNE and #3 being Nemesis.

You know the more I think about it, the people that I see that are saying that they love it are people who are under 20 whereas the people that I talked to were in their upper 20s and beyond so maybe it is an age thing where the younger kids can handle the ride better? or perhaps it is the older riders have experienced so many more rides they don't feel that they HAVE to love the ride?!?!

Also hemmy give it rest, we are all entitled to have our own opinions on rides, just because mine is not the same as your's doesn't mean I'm a CP hater. If that was the case MF wouldn't be my #1 steel.

Give what a rest, it is just a common thing here that anytime people seem to like Cedar Point's rides they are automatically a fanboy, as portrayed by your post I quoted where it popped up every few sentences.

I didn't have an ounce of pain on Maverick, and maybe that is because of a muscular build. I felt it deserved #1 because its mix of air time, speed, and inversions.

I have no problem with you not feeling the same, just when people forget we are discussing a very pointless topic (ranking roller coasters is very dumb IMO...but yes I still do it) and move away from opinions and state experiences as if they are fact.

I think you need to reread what I said because you are taking me out of context. I said:

Really? I think it is more of the people who think it was "meh, OK" just are not saying anything for fear that fanboys will criticize them.

I'm not calling people who like Mavie fanboys, I'm saying that people are scared to saying anything about because there are fanboys (and you know who they are) who will call the person everything in the book because they didn't like the ride.

I just got back from my aweosme trip, and got to ride Maverick! The day that we went (June 21st) we got some ERT just for the Joe Cool Club members, and we were riding maverick from around 11:30 PM to 12:30 PM with only like 150 people. It was pretty sweet! The tunnel has awesome special effects, the airtime and tight turns are great, and the people were all crazy! Hey, Reality15, I saw you! I was wearing the TPR shirt and showed up once during the day, and all of ERT time. Your friend Rob pointed me out. You guys are both crazy!

Ok, I just have to,......"FILL THE EMPTY SEATS!" -at all costs. Overall, it was a great day, and Maverick is aweome!

I had the privilege of getting two rides in the front seat on Maverick yesterday.

Wow! Maverick is such a great coaster. The first half before the tunnel is just a blur of craziness that I still haven't unraveled in my mind. The first drop is intense, and the airtime is pretty good. The launch was surprisingly forceful, but it's sadly trimmed down a bit on the hill coming out of the tunnel.

I think it's easily the best coaster in Ohio. Millennium Force, to me, just goes really fast and doesn't do anything. Maverick, on the other hand, does everything, and it does it all in such rapid-fire succession that you just don't know what hit you.

I have three complaints that prevent Maverick from being the perfect coaster:

1) The lack of the heartline roll. This really would have been the perfect finale. I hope they fix this in the off season, but I'm not holding my breath.

2) The trims coming out of the tunnel after the launch. This was disappointing because the launch is surprisingly forceful. But, the launch giveth, while the trims taketh away. It seems like they wouldn't have needed the trims if they had correctly banked that turn out over the water. Oh well. Long story short is that the first half of Maverick is the meat of the ride, while the second half doesn't quite measure up to the excellence of the opening.

3) The restraints aren't the greatest. Can't Intamin figure out a better lap bar that will be safe with inversions? Seriously, OTSRs just suck. The wife whined about this. I didn't have much problem with head banging, but I'm a lot taller than she is and I moved correctly with the ride.
