Worm Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Or changing gears can also mean going with speed into another forceful launch feeling as if you have changed gears! (i'm dead serious on this one)
ECZenith Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 ^ Now THAT is looking too far into it... That is interesting about the supports though, this thing's going up pretty quick.
coasterlover420 Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 They must really want this thing open on opening day. Otherwise, why would they have started so early (and it's going up really quick!)?
Tmcdllr Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Okay Cedar Point, I think we've all waited long enough- it's time for the official announcement please. Come on, it's August already! I still think it's a wingwalker.
zingo Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 And I think you realy want to die, I mean, theres just enough room for a track in there.
Tmcdllr Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Why so harsh? I'm simply saying I think it's a wingwalker as do others and I think it's about time they officially announce this thing. It's no secret, construction is already underway, it's an Intamin, we just don't know for sure what type of Intamin it is. I for one am tired of waiting and I don't think I'm alone in that. And I feel your 'you really want to die' comment was not necessary.
TheKlockster Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 I think he means if you put wing walker trains on that track - the wings would get chopped off by support collsions and ground collisions that the people on board the train would die. I just don't think the clearences are right...
Calvin Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Maybe they changed the Wingwalker so the cars ride on top of the train. Wait, that's just a floorless coaster. Maybe the train goes backwards. Maybe the cars spin. Maybe it has multiple launches. Maybe it's just a really good Intamin coaster.
DATman Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Well, I'll be out at the Point on either Wed. or Thurs, to finally see what's up. I'm guessing that the wingspan of wingwalkers is about 15 feet or so (less than X), so we can judge the distance for supports from that. Right now, I'm leaning more towards an Exped. type of coaster, as CP knows how outrageously popular it is, and how amazing it is. They'll probably shorten the drop a bit, but my guess is that it will somewhat resemble a more twisted version of the Intamin Hyper.
dandaman Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 I thought I saw a diagram/explanation on PB that it was 45 feet from tip to tip, which I thought was at the very least wrong... Am I? In any case, I kind of doubted a wingwalker from the start, and now these supports ( http://www.pointbuzz.com/Gallery.aspx?i=4666 ) lead me to think I made a correct choice. Nice avatar, by the way.
ECZenith Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 CP wouldn't build another megacoaster at the park when they have Millennium Force a stone's throw away.
Wes Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 I had a dream this morning that I was at the announcement and it turned out being the tallest, longest coaster ever...and it was some weird hybrid of a hyper coaster, a log flume, and a bobsled. This obviously means nothing, but I'm pretty sure my dream was as accurate as some of the guesses.
DATman Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Let's just go with kiddie coaster then, as anyone's guess is as good as another's. Saying that they won't build a smaller Intamin Hyper is like saying it was crazy to build MF, when they already had Magnum. It really could be anything as of now.
jamesdillaman Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 I'm just shocked it's not painted a nicer, aqua color... Oh well. -James Dillaman
Screamomatic Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Maybe there's reason it was painted that way
Ccron10 Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Well my opinion is that it's going to be an accelerator coaster like Storm Runner or Rita Queen of Speed because of the way the track looks, but you guys could be right.
Tmcdllr Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 An Intamin looper makes sense based on the track clearance, or what we know of it.
Bruno Lancetti Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 A record breaking (11!!!) Intamin AG looper with wing walker trains... Just a little bit crazy...
Tmcdllr Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 11 would be sweet__anything is possible at this point.
SFOGdude25 Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 There's this one piece of track on sight that looks like a double down drop will be part of the coaster. That 'll be awesome! Hopefully this will be an machine.
dandaman Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Hooray, and all that jazz, etc. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/webcams/index.cfm "What's This?" ...Supports, footers, and a few pieces of track. Do I win a cookie or something else of equal culinary value?
saytrain Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Hey, I'm new here. Very much so coaster lover. Was at Cedar Point this weekend and took the train around just to get a better glimpse at the construction. I don't think I've read anything about this yet, but I only read the first 10 pages and the last 5 on just to see, but did no one notice the sign you can see when taking the train? (Or it may have already been discussed). It read "YA'LL UP FOR SOME SIDEWINDING?" I'd imagine this coaster is going to have some inversions and is most likely named "Sidewinder". I think it's purpose is to replace an outdated Corkscrew and judging by the slang used all around the construction site, be a ride bringing some of the crowd up front due to MF and TTD back to the frontier area (mean streak doesn't do it on it's own anymore). I'd say all the facts point towards a looping Intamin coaster and is a best bet at this point. Sorry if this was already brought up, I will be going through all 100 pages I missed eventually here and catching up to speed on rumors and such.
Wes Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 ^ Welcome to the site, and yes, the "Sidewindin" sign has been discussed about 18,000 times in this thread.
