Safest Restraints and Manufacturer

Recommended Posts

What restraint do you think is the Safest and most comfortable. Also what company Manufactures them?

Me Personally i really like the restraints that Interactive Rides uses on its Frequent Faller, Insanity, and X-Scream rides.

It is a simple 4 locking ratcheting lap bar with a seatbelt. The restraint is bulky around the thighs, and has a bar to hold your legs in place. I was told that these restraints are designed to go upside-down in. I feel Comfortable with these restraints.

What do you all think???

These Restraints can be for Roller Coasters and Flat Rides.

I'm a fan of the B&M speedcoaster seat. That and the smoothness of the coasters combines for a feeling I can only describe as "comfortably numb."

My other vote is for the freedom of Phoenix's restraints. There's nothing like the airtime you get while protected by those suckers.

Clamshells. Great restraints. Just so cool, and so damn comfy too. I could sit there and fall asleep in a B&M Speed Coaster seat.

I was actually going to mention the clamshell restrains as one of the worst.

There's just something about them that didn't sit well with me. I think it was the exposed feeling, and having nothing around me. No seatbelt attached to the bar, nothing to my sides at all. That and the feeling that you're summersaulting over the bar on the hills. I found it felt like I was floating up, and forward over the bar.

Even though I knew that my leg would have to break for me to come out, it still didn't feel right.

I felt MUCH more comfortable and secure on the Intamin hyper trains.

Buzzbars!

I like it when restraints don't touch my body!

On the flip side, I think that the new Premier Lap Bars are pretty awful, I mean I love the idea, and they're better than getting your head bashed apart, but the weight of them on my stomach makes me sick. I could barely ride Mr. Freeze because it was hurting so bad.

^Yeah, the Premier ones are fairly heavy, and they don't let me move my feet or legs much. But, they're better than harnesses!

I feel most secure in B&M OSTR's. They are fairly comfortable (compared to Arrow/Vekoma) and are very secure. The B&M flying harnesses, while huge, make you feel very secure but most importantly, comfortable, while in flight. Padded, and you can get a good grip. I like the vest on it also.

The most comfortable is the buzz bar (of course) or the clamshell.

The worst, however, are the lap bars on the American Eagle! No place to grab onto, and you get stapled in really, really tight every time. (There are no real clicks on these PTC ratcheting lap bars. They used to be buzz bars, but were retrofitted.) SFGAm, home of the ratcheting buzz bars, that take ten buzzes to get undone. But the Gerstlauer ones are a close second.

I absolutely hate the Premier Retro-Fit Lap Bar. As a tall person it forces my back off the back of the seat, puts my legs in an uncomfortable position, and completely smashes my "Junk".

The "Clamshell" is not the best for me either, because of the gaps between clicks.

For me the most secure is probably the Intamin T-Bar, but I will always prefer the PTC "Buzzbar".

// Thinking back to a better day when the Beast had a buzzbar and made it halfway up the second lift before falling back on the chain.

For me, its either Intamins T-bar or the OTSRs on a B&M. I feel quite safe in those. The worst restraints are the restraints of any Togo!

Ah, you see, i've only ridden Silver Star, which doesn't have a massive amount of airtime on the best of days. I'm not the bravest though, and I do like to hold on on most rides. I rode Expedition GeForce the day before, and after the 4th ride, I managed to coax my hands up on the last bunny hop. On Silver Star, arms were up straight away due to the comfort of the restraints!

I know what you mean about the exposedness though. Back row of Silver Star was very exposed. Nothing behind either. I was gripping the restraints good!

Ah, the good ol Intamin T Bar restraints are my favorite. Actually, I like just about anything that has a seat belt to it. So, vekoma and arrow loopers i just dont feel safe in. Mostly because there is no redundant restraint. Same thing with the B&M Hypers. I just didnt feel comfortable without a seatbelt. Finally, I really dont like OSR. On any coaster. I prefer the freedom of free hands. But i want a seatbelt at the very least.

Yeah, clamshells are awesome with freedom. I also like CCI woodie restraints. They're just really comfortable, make a cool clicking sound (if memory serves me up right), and give me a lot of freedom. But my favorite are B&M OTSR's. I can easily put my hands up (but with my height, I don't suggest doing it on some rides), don't get headbanged/neckbanged/shoulderbanged, and it keeps me in. For instance, I love the way that the restraints push in tighter when you go into a fast loop (like one of Dueling Dragons' immelmen). I don't know if that's on every coaster with OTSR's, but I notice it on Beamers.

I had my harness pop open on me in the middle of the ride once and the only thing that saved me was the seat belt that keeps it from coming all the way up. So as far as safety goes, I feel the safest in anything that has a seat belt on it. My favorites are the old Intamin t-bars with the seat belt and B&M floorless/inverted coasters.

B&M flyer restraints are incredibly comfortable. The rubber padded vest allows for a great deal of movability and comfort, while still making me feel secure. The worst are Vekoma OTSR's on Ninja @ SFOG. They need to learn from B&M and make OTSR's that actually extend up above your neck, so that headbanging won't turn into neckbanging. I like any type of restraint in which I feel comfortable holding my hands up without my head being thrown against the restraint. Loopers with lapbars, such as Mindbender, are the best!
