Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

I don't think that the water park was that bad. I really enjoyed the fake river rapids ride and the two twin speed slides. But relative to the other Cedar Fair parks, yes, I do agree that it sucks.

The thing with water slides / parks, even the bad ones are pretty fun.

As someone that has never been to a good water park, I really hope Valleyfair goes all out next year.

Well, based on all I've heard, it sounds like Valleyfair will go all out on the waterpark for next year. Based on what I know, it could be more than simply one slide package. With the removal of both the IMAX theater and Hydroblaster, and a plethora of flags and markers in that area, I don't see why it couldn't happen.

It's likely that anything to comes to Soak City will be from White Water West, and they manufactured Dragster H2O that went to Cedar Point's waterpark in 2012. If the park moved a few things around, I could see a clone of that going in the old Hydroblaster spot.

Dragster H20 Clone?

Just got an email from Valleyfair for season pass holders and this is what it read:

"We know many people may have questions on how the regions flooding is affecting the park. The high water levels have affected three rides, Renegade, Excalibur and Thunder Canyon. All other areas of the park are open including Soak City Waterpark, Route 76, the Corkscrew, Planet Snoopy and more! The waters are receding and we hope to have these three rides open soon! Updates will be posted on our social media accounts and webpage."

Hopefully they can get these rides open by the weekend.

I enjoyed Dragster H20, and I'm excited about a new slide complex... Personally, I've never been on any Tornado Proslides, or any slides where the floor drops out from under you... Something along those lines are on my wish list.

Trust me, Those Floor Drop slides are terrifying. Maybe they can convert the Speed Slides into those (Great Adventure was rumored to add them in 2011)

According to Dave Frazier's Twitter, Excalibur is reopening tomorrow at 10 am. No word on Renegade or Thunder Canyon yet. It's a good sign, but I'll be happiest once Renegade is open.

I got the e-mail too and was curious about one particular ride that they singled out as being open: Corkscrew. I know it goes over the lake in the middle of the park, but why would the park single out a ride in the middle of the park, unaffected by flooding.

Thanks for the update. I have not seen Excalibur open up at 10:00 am on a weekday in years, so long I cannot remember when the last time that happened. Good to see they are recovering from the flood, hopefully Renegade opens soon.

That's strange. I usually visit the park on weekdays during the summer months, and Excalibur almost always opens along with the rest of the park. Maybe it's just my luck.

Or it may be my luck. When I am there on weekends it usually opens at 10:00 am but on weekdays it is always roped off when I visit with that sign that says it will open at 12:00 pm. Due to the rain and flooding I have only visited on weekends this year except on opening day.

VF posted on their Facebook account, "Great news...Excalibur will open today, and we expect Renegade in the near future!". And as indicated in a post above that the VF Twitter account indicates that they are currently testing Renegade so this is good news.

^ No kidding, with that big graphic it means they have been thinking about it. Did not expect that. Guess I am not the only one who thinks that is the best ride in the park and that if it is not running then it is not worth going considering the 100's of times I have been there. Time to cut out of work early and get some laps in.

:b

I was super surprised and excited to see renegade and Excalibur open today when I was there! Rode them both, both rode nicely, but Excalibur kinda smelled bad (I assume from the flooding), but the flooding is almost completely gone, which makes me really happy! Also, I saw some Hellside behind the amphitheater. MNRV is still down.

Just got back from the park! I have quite a bit of info to share with you guys. First off, the park has never looked better, they have added a lot of flags and trees/bushes since opening day, and while I was there it was announced over the speakers that Renegade was now open, and everyone cheered haha. One thing I found interesting was that when riding Power Tower, the wait at the top of the tower was MUCH longer than before. While we were at the top I kept waiting for it to drop, but it took forever! Gave me a nice long view of the flooding. Another thing I found interesting was that there was a new procedure that the workers said before every ride started, kinda strange but I think it has to do with safety. The parking lot is almost completely not flooded anymore, but there is still a big chunk of it that is, which worries me because on the 4th, usually the whole parking lot is in use. Alot of people are going to have to park in the nearby feild. Also, people were hard at work on the railroad. One last thing, valleyfair have planted some pine trees in the former IMAX area, which got me a bit confused. I hope there is still enough room with the trees there too expand the waterpark.

That's a bit surprising to hear them planting pine trees there, but if the top of a slide complex is built high enough, they can probably still fit one there. If nothing does go there, then I guess the old Hydroblaster spot would be the best bet.

Off topic question, but to anyone that has visited recently, have they started displaying wait times on FunTV yet? The last time I was at the park was two-and-a-half weeks ago, and they still didn't have them up. If they're still not up, then maybe we just shouldn't expect them at all. On the matter of FunTV, I do think that it has so far been a good addition to the park. The music videos and park trivia are good content, but the things that bug me the most are those "Reason insert number here to have a Gold Pass" commercials.

No, they have not added them to fun TV, which honestly is kinda dissapointing.

I don't think this should be an issue at all. Just because they planted trees doesn't mean they can't use that space. They could move the trees if they needed or just discard them. Parks like this thrive on being beautiful and would think nothing of planting large spruce trees for just one season. Why did VF even bother to put in sand volleyball courts. We all know they are coming out. They could have just left it a grassy field for a year and nobody would have cared a bit.

Well, I'll be thir first to say on this forum. HAPPY INDEPENDANCE DAY! God is good! Enjoy your time with family or friends or whatever else you plan for today! Take a moment to say a prayer of thanks to God for the great nation He has blessed us with! Thank the Lord for Amusement parks! It give us all a lot to talk about!
