Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I just checked the valleyfairzone twitter account and they are talking about ValleyScare. There are rumors of a new maze and were coming up with ideas. Did anybody see the Blacklist episode called "The Stewmaker"? He is a hired assassin that literally melts his victims down with chemicals then flushes them down the toilet. Pretty scary! It would make a great haunt. I'm not really into that stuff either but it's huge for Valleyfair. Mr. Frazier told me that Buck Hill isn't going to do their haunt anymore. That means more people will be coming to ValleyScare this year.

That is big for VF, like you indicated that will probably mean more people will visit ValleyScare and more $$$ for the park. A new haunt structure and maze then would be good to attract the 'new' (Buck Hill crowd) and get the regulars excited for something new in the mix. Personally I am not into the Haunt thing, the only reason I like it is that is keeps the rides running into October for me to ride. But I do know that it seems to get a little bigger every year when I visit and that means more revenue for VF so I like it.

I'll probably sound stupid for asking this question, but what is Buck Hill? Is that some person that helps run the event, or some other place that has a Halloween event? I wouldn't know because I'm not into the Haunt stuff either.

Good for valleyfair, good/bad for people who like haunt( i like both haunt and rides) It might bring us another new maze, and that permanent haunt building Mr.Frazier told me about. The down side is it will have a lot bigger lines. Fright lane passes anyone?

was at the park a few days ago, Steel Venom was good as always, didn't get a chance to ride Northern Lights due to lines but it was my first time seeing Route 76 and it was nice and colorful. Excalibur was walk-on (as usual). Renegade was closed most of the day and was sitting on the lift hill most of the time . During the middle of the day while I was at SC, the wavepool (forgot the name) turned off its wave cycle for about 40 minutes, seemed strange :S .And finally Corkscrew exceeded my expectations and ran really somooth.

^ If these flags mean removal of the amphitheater (which is long overdue since it has not been on the park map the last 3 years and it not up to building code to use anymore) then what does everyone thinks it means? It obvious as day that some form of a water park expansion is coming probably next year or the following year at the latest. Are they just going to demolish it and get it on the 'water park expansion' budget and leave it empty while they expand the water park? Or do you think they will relocate Looping Starship there? Or even the best case scenario the park actually gets a NEW flat in that area? Let the speculation begin.

I think that flags mean that the amphitheater is on it's way out soon, which is good news because right now it is just sitting there wasting perfectly good space. Something new will probably be going there in the future, but probably not next year because currently it's quite obvious that next year's project will be the waterpark expansion. I'd rather have Looping Starship get relocated to another park or sent to the junkyard than have it moved within the park. I said a while back that a Zamperla Air Race could be a fun ride to put there. I guess you could fit a smaller-sized Windseeker in that spot, but if VF ever does get a Windseeker, I don't see it happening within the next few years because of the problems they've had recently. I'd love to get a Huss Giant Frisbee, but I'm not sure if it would fit in that space. Maybe if they move Enterprise to somewhere else in the park like the old Tilter spot, they could fit a Giant Frisbee in there. That's my two cents.

This would be a perfect spot for a haunt permanent structure because the gate that the train passes by on the current ampitheater path could be closed during the regular season (allowing the train to run), and open to the path when haunt is running.

While I am not a big haunt fan I do recognize that ValleyScare has become huge for Valleyfair. I agree that more haunt locations are necessary to keep attracting people to ValleyScare but the location you are pointing out is much more valuable as a full operating season location for a new attraction. It's a very large area and would make more sense to locate a major flat ride or roller coaster in this area. You need to remember that ValleyScare needs to mix up the venues they have now to keep things fresh. They can't just keep adding new haunt locations. They have been doing a good job of that already. You also need to think outside the box. Here are a couple of examples. How about a haunted hayride? The field just north of the parking lot could be planted with corn and used as a haunted hayride. How about using the Thunder Canyon path and turning it into a "Haunted Hike"

On another note. I'm beginning to think that we are going to have some kind of announcement coming from VF soon! There is just too much going on right now for them to keep things quiet for much longer. I'm excited to hear of marker flags up around the amphitheater. Even when the theater was usable they didn't use it to it's full potential. I saw a couple of good shows there but mostly it sat unused. Thinking about that area, that might be a really good place for an awesome dark ride! Something VF does not have. I personally don't think that our next roller coaster (2016 ?) is going to be located in the front of the park. Route 76 has brought the crowds back to the front but now I think VF wants to give more reasons to venture to the back of the park. The waterpark expansion next year will be huge but I believe our next coaster will be located back there somewhere with maybe the loading station where the current maintenance building is. What is everyone else's thought on this?

Well, I too would want an announcement sooner than later, but Cedar Fair parks usually don't announce their new attractions until mid-to-late August. Valleyfair has sometimes waited until September to announce the new addition (ex. Route 76, Renegade). A dark ride would be a good addition, as Valleyfair doesn't have one, but they need the waterpark expansion and a new coaster first before a dark ride. You're right about the back of the park needing attention. Aside from Renegade, beyond the Soak City entrance, that part of the park is somewhat quiet. I don't know which exact building is the maintenance building, but I could definitely see a roller coaster in this area. Although, a part of me feels the new coaster may not happen until 2017 because asking for a new coaster the year after a waterpark expansion might be asking for too much, but for now, I'll just wait and see how things play out.

I really want Cedar Fair to realize that parks like these would do a Lot better if they would put in something that got peoples attention! This park DESPERATELY needs a new coaster! There is money to be made!

I totally agree. We will see what CF does over the next 5 years as they have labeled VF as one of their 3 top growth parks, we will see if they make some bigger investments for the park. If they bring some nice attractions and rides instead of going on the cheap like they have in the past it will pay off in this market.

The maintenance building is the one on the left closest to Renegade. I just don't see them demolishing a building, adding a coaster and then clearing area and building another building just due to the expense of relocating and building another building. It would be nice if they did though, it would be a nice spot and change the traffic flow of the park. I still say they will be removing Excalibur and putting it back there. I am not as sure as I once was with those orange dots being spotted in the Excalibur queue line but that is still where I think they will put a new coaster before anywhere else in the park. Below is an aerial view of the back of the park. In BLUE is where Excalibur currently is, the RED line is the where they cannot build beyond due to the flood plane and the YELLOW line is just open area right now. They could not put a loading station back in the YELLOW area there due to the flood plane but they can put footers and track back there. Plus a new coaster there could be seen from highway 101 and give the park have a little more curb appeal.

I agree completely. Since VF was listed as one of the top 3 parks for future growth, our next attractions/coasters hopefully won't be done cheaply. After thinking about it, going on the cheap is probably my biggest pet peeve with Valleyfair. Excalibur has the potential to be a great coaster, but since it only has a simple figure-right look, it's okay at best. I don't blame VF for choosing Morgan for Wild Thing, as B&M and Intamin hadn't started making hypercoasters yet, but they could have done so much more with it. Steel Venom is a great ride, but impulse coasters are one of Intamin's cheaper models, and it was sort of a spur-of-the-moment thing. Renegade is awesome, but it is the cheapest of Cedar Fair's three GCIs. If you'd asked me about VF's future a year ago, I would having been predicting something else cheap for next time, but now, I'm much more confident in my home park's future.

^ Thats enough room for a decent sized B&M. I'm thinking invert. C'mon! A park that doesn't have a single B&M is suffering!

Yeah, it is sort of embarrassing having no type of B&M. What I think is more embarrassing is that the only inverting coaster is an Arrow Loopscrew. It's quite smooth for a 34-year-old Arrow, but it's still ridiculous. I'm with you on the invert as it would satisfy the park's need for a full-circuit invert, and a new coaster with inversions.
