How about put Looping Starship there and expand the waterpark?

And if they expand the waterpark, Hopefully they will add some color to it. All the rides are white.

They definitely will. All the new slide complex that Cedar Fair have put in recently are very colorful.

I also meant repainting the slides like Cedar Fair did with the slides in Cedar Points Soak City.

That could happen, but for now I think their main focus is the water park expansion. Since we are probably getting a water park expansion, what kinds of slides are we going to most likely see? A snake pit? A "looper"?

The main rumor I've heard is that VF is going to get a slide package from White Water West, and they made the Snake Pit that went to Dorney Park this year, so a Snake Pit could definitely happen at VF. Also, I'd be all for repainting the current slides because they are honestly an eyesore to look at.

From what I'm learning from all the rumors is that the current white slides are going to go away and something new replacing it. This is in addition to a new slide package where IMAX used to be. I think the only rides that will remain for the "New" Soak City are Hurricane Falls, maybe ripple rapids and the wave pool. Everything else is gone! I think we are looking at an extreme makeover. Just my opinion!

I wouldn't mind a Bowl Slide, Tornado, Racing Mat Slides, Giant Water Play Area with Tipping Bucket, Or Coaster Slide.

So I've been looking over the pictures from the flooding. I can't help but notice the US's first AQUATRAX!!!! (Sorry I had too)

Hopefully there was no serious damage.

It should be okay. Valleyfair experiences flooding (to at least some extent) nearly every year, owed to the fact that the park sits in a large floodplain, just a couple hundred meters from the Minnesota river. However, this spring-flooding typically takes place in mid to late April and Recedes for the most part, before the park opens for the season, thus it doesn't usually interfere with ride operation. The Western (lower) end of the property, experiences the worst of it, and the rides/structures in this area of the park were constructed with this in mind.

According to VF and Dave Frazier on Twitter, the flooding in the parking lot is receding, and cars can now park in the main lot. That's a step in the right direction. Hopefully they can get Renegade, Excalibur, and Thunder Canyon open in time for the Fourth of July weekend, but I have no idea how long the ride inspections will take. I'd hate to see the park lose revenue on such a big weekend.

Can't Valleyfair just build Levee's by the river?

Unfortunately it is not that easy because park borders a nature preserve. It is the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge which runs along the length of the park which also has the Minnesota River through it. It became a wildlife preserve in 1976 (the same year that the park opened) to prevent commercial development from further affecting the area. Between the national and local protections on this area it becomes a real uphill battle for the park to get anything done along those lines in dealing with the river. If the original park owners when building it in 1974 and 1975 filled in low spots or even built levee's along the river they probably could have done it with little or no problems before it came a preserve but since that was not done at the time the park more or less just has to do its best to deal with it.

Just confirmed this information from an e-mail from Mr. Frazier. He said the water is receding fast but can't give a timeline for opening Renegade, Excalibur or Thunder Canyon yet.

He also confirmed that the track work near the amphitheater is just that. They are making repairs to the track. Sorry, nothing to see here, move along.

2015 - Waterpark Expansion - Rumor - (6/4/14) The latest rumors regarding the 2015 addition for Valleyfair say that the park’s focus will almost entirely be on the waterpark that year. More than just adding a few new things… apparently this will be a much more extreme makeover of the entire waterpark experience. Who knows… they could even re-brand it under a new name to get more attention, though it already carries the chain’s current popular ‘Soak City’ brand name, unless they want to transform it into a Boomerang Bay as was done with a few of the old Paramount Park waterparks several years ago.

(11/24/13) A waterslide expansion package is expected to come to Valleyfair in 2015 from White Water West. This could be similar to the Snake Pit slide package going into Dorney Park in 2014 or the one added to Worlds of Fun in 2013.

Since Screamscape is absolutely reliable, let's just say Valleyfair is getting a waterpark expansion/makeover.

I haven't been to VF this year yet, but I, for one, am not a huge fan of VF removing the old-school log-flume, Hydroblaster, among others, to make room for a Water-park expansion. The existing water park was pretty decent, especially given that it's included with admission. The Log-Flume that they removed was a classic of that type, and always seemed to have a decent line. Hydroblaster was a double, black, enclosed tube-slide that wasn't actually part of the water-park, and you could ride it and stay dry for the most part. I believe they were both removed to make room for the new wave-pool.

Then there's the whole "route 76" area, which is supposed to be a historical area/exhibit, including the return of several rides which were there in the parks early days (antique-cars anyone? )

Valleyfair seems very overdue for a new, steel coaster. If they don't want to spend money on a totally new coaster, I think revamping Excalibur would be awesome. It's a very unique coaster to begin with and has a certain charm. Maybe add some terrain, facades, props, or structures to it, to give it more of a "mine ride" feel

Well, Valleyfair honestly really needs the waterpark expansion because it is the worst waterpark in the Cedar Fair chain. I don't think Soak City is awful like some people say, but it's outdated and needs something new to keep people visiting. I only visit Soak City if it's sweltering hot.

As for a new coaster, I think that is more likely to happen than an Excalibur revamp because an Excalibur revamp probably wouldn't be worth it because it is one of the least popular attractions in the park, and I personally think that it will be gone within the next ten years, regardless of if that land is used for a new coaster. CF mentioned that VF is one of three parks slated for significant growth, and I think that means a new coaster will happen in the near future.

I think the waterpark is tied with California's Great America and Wildwater Kingdom Ohio for worst CF Waterpark.

I too was sad to see the old log flume go away but it was needed for the wave pool expansion. Hydroblaster was just removed this last off season. Nick U. has one of the best log flume's in the world in my opionion so that made it easier to take. Valleyfair desperatly needs a major upgrade to its water park, it is very outdated and drab so still popular. I can see a pretty significant attendance boost when a new expaned water park opens most likely next year.

Route 76 is awesome! I love the new area and the new Northern Lights disko coaster is very fun! That was a great addtion to the park.

I think a new coaster is on tap for 2016. Can't say for sure but if I was a bettin man, i'd put money up on it!

No, no and more no. The only revamping of Excalibur should be demolition, don't waste anymore money on it.

If VF removed the maintenance/guest help building and the existing children's area, you have a decent plot for a Whitewater West children's play structure or even a Proslide ridehouse. Former Imax area will probably become the Whitewater West complex, maybe even a Flowrider could squeeze in that space. Remove Snoopy's Red Baron and the Hydro Blaster, boom, easy space for WWW mat racer or a Proslide Kraken racer. Adding on to the "Snake Pit" complex, WWW is famous for Aqualoops, so why not have a breakaway slide be an aqualoop , just my two cents.

Also, if you took Wild Thing's queue, and turned it 90* to the right, and moved the exit, even more space! (please note that I'm well aware of how crazy that sounds )

I realize that Excalibur is probably the least popular coaster at VF. You can usually can get the front, or back seat in less than 5 minutes (Was it even popular in the years following it's opening)?

However, I personally would be quite sad to see them demolish Excalibur. It was either the first or second roller-coaster I was on (that and Corkscrew). I think I was 5 or 6 years old and just barely made the 48" Minimum height-requirement by a Millimeter, and I have rode it at least 150 times since then, so it's quite sentimental to me..

However, if they replaced it with a nice B&M Invert, or compact steel-twister like "Vortex" or "Ninja" at SF Georgia (not sure if that plot of land is big enough to accommodate something bigger) I would get over it Maybe I'll mess around with Google Earth and experiment with overlays of various RC's to see what would fit there.

I will be visiting the park on Thursday, and I'm really excited to see if we have made any progress on the flooding. I really hope that Renegade and Excalibur are running by Thursday, if not though, it's not going to stop me from visiting my home park. Also, I'm excited to do some more looking around the park for markings and stuff like that. I'll take some pictures if I find anything good, and post them on here. I'll also keep you guys updated on the flooding.

A couple of old slides and a lazy river is "pretty decent"? Compared to Noah's Ark?, or any of the Hurricane Harbors?, or for that matter some of Cedar Fairs better ones like Oceans of Fun? Log flume may have had a decent line, but I bet there's several times as many people in the pool most of the time.

I had the same thought, moving the entrance and exit to next to the tunnel and taking out the restrooms and the pronto-pups stands frees up and immense amount of land next to the watepark. The problem is getting people too the area and you get a nice view of all the mechanical equipment for the wave pool; my thought would be to use it or a water coaster that loads near the Hydroblaster memorial plot.
