grsupercity Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Something similar to Talon would be great. Very intense for a smaller one.
Donkey123 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Talon is at my home park and that ride would make a very big upgrade to Valleyfairs lineup and in my opinion Talon is one of the best inverts out there and I believe it's only 13 million which would be right around Valleyfair's Budget.

And patriot is slightly longer. Wonder why Talon was 1 million more?
Snowyowl1028 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I want the new coaster to have a nice name, one that is threatening and matches the coaster nicely. Wild Thing, Steel Venom and Renegade fit this, but with other inverts they have names that don't really fit a coaster. No offense to fanboys of these parks but like patriot? That is just so random. Afterburn? The only meaning to that I know is after working out. Talon? So like a bird fingernail? I hope VF picks a good name because that is a major part of a coaster to me.

Actually Patriot matches the American Theme in the Americana section of the park.
Donkey123 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Talon was named that because you are hanging below the track just like you are if you were an animal hanging from a birds TALON.

grsupercity Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Afterburn used to be themed to top gun. afterburn is when a plane used increased thrust to hypersonic speeds. Since the ride is themed to jet fighters it makes sense. better then its cousin flight deck at GCA

Actually Patriot matches the American Theme in the Americana section of the park. I know, but they could have thought of a way better and threatening name to match the american theme. Maybe something like Lightning Eagle (The country's national bird). A patriot is just a fan of the U.S. It's like naming a ride Fanboy.

ariznglori Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I like the name Patriot too. Not too fond of the color scheme, just feel like it's done to death, but I also can't think of a better one, so there you go.
VF15 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Hmm... on the waterpark section of the park website, both the speed slides and trapdoor slides are listed as a 4 out of 5 on the thrill rating scale. I find that confusing because these slides look a lot more thrilling than anything else in the waterpark.
ariznglori Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Maybe it's an effort to make the slides seem like they're more family friendly?

I remember that once the balloon ride was rated a 4. It also says that Renegade is "Less Thrilling" than Wild Thing, which I think that most everyone would disagree with...

I know that may just me and my favorite colors being red white and blue.

It's actually the rating I would expect for this attraction. Keep in mind the number given isn't just about how intense or scary a ride may be. It is very specific to what kinds of things the guest will experience. In the waterpark, I believe the rating system also considers the swimming ability required. A 5 in the waterpark, for example, means that the rider will also be encountering deep and turbulent water, and may need to be able to control their body under these conditions. That will not exactly be the case with these new slides because they end in runouts, not deep pools. These slides may be intimidating and thrilling, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are "aggressive" per se.

Oh yeah, I forgot that the waterpark ratings are different than the actual park ratings. Also, if it is about "agression", it makes me even more confused about why Renegade has a lower rating than Wild Thing.
Snowyowl1028 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I agree with you GCI Wooden. The system is not accurate if Corkscrew, Renegade, and Northern Lights all have the same rating.
garyman6 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Question for everyone. What is your opinion of Northern Lights? The whole route 76 area only cost VF around 3 - 4 million. I absolutely love it! Maybe not the most thrilling ride although the back outer seats are pretty sweet, but overall one of the more fun rides I've been on. Honestly haven't laughed so much on a ride in a long time! I give VF an "A" rating for route 76.

It's definitely not the most thrilling ride, nor does it have to be. It's just plain fun!
Snowyowl1028 Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Fun on the outer seats but otherwise kind of a yawn. I consider it a nice addition to the park though.
