Jew Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 ^^It shouldn't matter. It's not like the guest is trying to scam the park if the ticket is legitimate. I would HOPE the park would make exceptions, which is why I asked. I am curious to know what they do.
ArizonaGuy Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I guess they tell them "Come when we're open" LOL Coming from Six Flags you never know.
disturboed Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I would *HOPE* they did the right thing for the guests they inconvenienced. Â SFMM should really control the weather better.
Jew Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 ^I assume you are being sarcastic, but my point has nothing to do with the weather. Actually, I don't even have a point. I was really just curious to know if they make any sort of effort to recover any guests inconvenienced by the weather. Â It sounds like the standard response is that tickets don't expire, so they can be used any other time. I just wonder if they do anything for those who can't come back.
SFMMGeek27 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Nobody's even there on days it's closed. So no, they don't do anything. Their policy is "No rainchecks".
Mechanic Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 From the park's website:  INCLEMENT WEATHER Rides may be temporarily closed during electrical storms, heavy rain, or high winds. Rides will re-open as soon as safe operations can be assured. Most restaurants, theaters and shops will remain open. Refunds and rain checks are not offered for inclement weather.  As Guest safety is our number one priority, there are certain weather circumstances that may cause the entire Park to close earlier than scheduled or not open at all. As soon as closures are confirmed the website operating calendar will be updated with the Park’s current operating status. Please check the website prior to visiting on days when weather may be a concern.
Jew Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Nobody's even there on days it's closed. So no, they don't do anything. Their policy is "No rainchecks".  That's unfortunate. Doesn't harm the business one bit to accommodate the few guests who did have issues. I agree with the park if it's a season pass holder who comes all the time and is obviously just trying to game the system, but I would hope they would make exceptions for those who really were just wanting to visit for the day. Being nice to guests has the strange effect of INCREASING business. "Here, have a 1-time use front of line pass for when you do come back" costs the park absolutely nothing and will go a long way in making the guest spend more money in the park vs "weather is not our fault. too bad!"  But of course…that's why SFMM is SFMM. Knott's does the same thing I believe, which is why KBF still has a long way to go to recover from the old management of Cedar Fair as well.
VTown661 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 SFMM made a great pick in not opening today Saturday the 1st. Rained heavy out here until about 8am then started to dry out and by about 11:30 ground was just about dry. By 12:30 the rain was back & I saw a Ark floating down Magic Mountain Pkwy and at 3pm the skys went crazy. Jeez was it pouring.
singemfrc Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 ^There's never "nothing they can do." I was just curious if they actually do try to go the extra mile for those who purchased tickets they may not be able to use at all or not again until much later in the year. Â No, because there's no way for them to tell if the tickets were bought for that day or not. They aren't dated, so yeah. Pre-purchased flash passes are for a specific day only. I wonder if those are refunded/rescheduled if the park closes unexpectedly.

Knott's does the same thing I believe, which is why KBF still has a long way to go to recover from the old management of Cedar Fair as well.  I get what you're trying to say exactly! Especially when you have parks like USH pulling out all the stops to do guest recovery when it's raining (like offering comp tickets to come back at a later date and free hot chocolate and coffee to guests who choose to stay in the park). Of course, it helps that the majority of their attractions are indoors already! Personally I've never understood the Knott's policy of no rainchecks. It makes no sense to me.  EDIT: Since this is the SFMM thread, I should stay on topic. I just realized that my previous comments only mentioned USH and KBF. Sorry! It doesn't surprise me that SFMM doesn't do anything special in these situations! Though I do appreciate the fact that they posted updates about the closure to facebook/twitter the day before it happened instead of the day of! The Tatsu POV they posted on their page looked great too!
Jew Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 USH doesn't offer the tickets to come back any more. They still do offer the free hot chocolate and relocate shows & character meet-and-greets indoors though.
dylanreich Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Maybe things have changed, but two years ago I was at the park a day the park closed early in the day due to weather closing down all the rides, and they gave everyone comp tickets on the way out, season pass or not.
coastercoaster5 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I know this is very unlikely, but i wish one of the new slides would be a straight drop and the other would twist around it. That would give two totally different experiences.
rcjp Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 So any updates on the construction of this thrill machine?
coastercoaster5 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 ^As far as i know(could be wrong), There are few supports near Tornado and Venom Drop(I think its called) has been removed.
SFMMGeek27 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 From today's issue of SFMM's newsletter:  For a limited time this spring, you can experience two favorite coasters in a new way. The looping fiend BATMAN™ The Ride and the monstrous wooden classic Colossus will turn backwards. You’ll be able to experience all the loops, twists, turns, and drops in reverse with unpredictable excitement. Six Flags Magic Mountain will give you two new coaster experiences. This spring, BATMAN™ The Ride and Colossus will be flipped around to face the opposite direction.  Our suspended looping coaster, BATMAN The Ride, will be more intense than ever before as you twist BACKWARDS through spirals and loops. The ride experience will feel completely different as you soar into the unknown at 50 miles per hour. Tackle a 105-foot lift and soar through five stomach-flipping inversions—including hairpin turns, two vertical loops, a zero-g roll heartline spin, and dizzying corkscrews—with your feet dangling below all while going backwards. Your anticipation, adrenaline, and fear will be magnified when you will only be able to see where you’ve been—not where you’re going.  BATMAN The Ride backwards is set to debut on March 22, but only Season Pass Holders can be the first to experience it with a special sneak peek. Flash your Season Pass to enjoy a just-for-passholders exclusive on March 8, 9, 15, and 16. (Due to maintenance and other circumstances, the sneak preview may be delayed, canceled, or rescheduled.)  Additionally, we’re flipping the cars around to run Colossus in reverse. This experience is usually reserved for Fright Fest, but we’re expanding the backwards thrills this spring. You’ll race around 4,325 feet of wooden track at 62 miles per hour while facing the opposite direction. As you elevate up the 100-foot-tall lift hill, you’ll be staring right back down at the ground you just traveled and plunge down the drop when you least expect it. By the time you can see that steep turn, you’ll already have coiled around it. And you’ll climb up and drop down 14 hills and a triple jump before you can even prepare for what’s ahead.  Don’t miss these exclusive backwards thrills for a limited time this Spring!   Season Passholder previews on Batman this and next weekend, and both Batman and Colossus Backwards opening to the public March 22nd!
Jew Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Guess I'll actually have to ride something when I do my update lap this Sunday.
WFChris Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I'm having trouble counting 14 hills on Colossus. ..I only count 11, and that's including the grade to the lift hill and off the final brake run!
WFChris Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 If you only count the big hills (aka not the 2 little dips after the 2nd drop, nor the approach and final grades), there are 7. On both tracks, that's 14, maybe that's what they are thinking about? Weird SFMM marketing confusing my brain...
TroyWD98 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 ^ Hint for the Iron Colossus? *crosses fingers* I don't wanna get my hopes up too high but if Iron Colossus ever does get announced, it'll be a very long and exciting wait from that moment till the moment I can ride it.
dylanreich Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Whoo hoo. Will be there this saturday I'll be there on Saturday as well! Can't wait to ride Batman backwards.
Diamondbacker27 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Six flags turns there coasters backward often, why doesn't Cedar Fair ever do this?
