harper83087 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 ^ I really wantto ride GL again to see if my opinion will change. My one and only ride was both painful and uneventful (one and a half flips). I'm hoping to make it to WCB and if so hope they won't balance out the trains like on my ride.
Sir Clinksalot Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I've ridden GL about 20 or so times now, and each time I'm less impressed with it. Â I'm hoping we get some good rides during WCB.
DJeXeL Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 ^Have you ridden with 3 riders? When I rode with 4 we only got the courtesy flip at the end. With 3 we flipped like crazy as soon as we were off the lift....
Top Thrill Dragster Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I've ridden GL about 20 or so times now, and each time I'm less impressed with it. Â I'm hoping we get some good rides during WCB. Â Â Same here. Â I've had more painful rides on it than pleasant. The second half of the ride is just brutal, I wish SFMM would add trims or do something to tame it.
SharkTums Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 ^Are you for real? The ride has trims all over it. You really can't handle it?
QueerRudie Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Please note rides for ERT are subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control.  I.E. If two idiots show up with Mr. Six masks and put a voodoo on the ride. Oh wait, now there are three idiots that might show up with Mr. Six masks  I will threaten you as I did Bryan and Jake over this one... Break a ride, pay the consequences. I'm sure Jo would be -happy- to help me out with this task, and for that matter, I do have nice, dense steel canes to work with....
Top Thrill Dragster Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 ^^Yes, I'm serious. Â Green Lantern has given me some of the most painful rides on a coaster I've ever experienced. The amount of force that ride puts onto your lower body is simply too much. And I know I'm not the only one, as I've heard the exact same thing from the GP and my coaster enthusiast friends. Â Â I think SFMM should either tone down the second half of the ride or look into getting new restraints.
gisco Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 ^Don't ride it and the problem will be solved. Cheap solution.

I call it the "Grunt Lantern" because of the way it made me feel and the noise I made while riding it. I was riding with a friend and he was grunting too... I now have the ride credit so I'm good.

I now have the ride credit so I'm good.  I've been on it only three times since I had a season pass before I moved to Washington, I know a comfortable way to ride it but it's really hard to stay in that position: Don't put your head back all the way on the seat, but try to lean back a little bit, & grip on at all times.. Of course this is my opinion but look into it..
SharkTums Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Wow, American's are pussies. Don't ever go to Sweden. That's a REAL Intamin Ball Coaster!
Manic Monte Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 ^ Well I've ridden GL several times and never had a problem. It's a flat out, fun ride and not painful at all. People talking like it's some sort of handbanging, revenge of Flashback, and that is just not true. The ride is forceful for it's size, and people who can't take those sort of forces should just not ride it. Â As far as taming it? No F-ing way! Why would you tame a ride that already has trims and is less than 1000ft long? That makes no sense at all.
SharkTums Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 ^Exactly. Â You want to get beat up at SFMM, go to the other side of the park to Arrow Junction and have X2 and Viper show you what it's like to really get beat up on a coaster.
kylexy2298 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 ^I couldn't agree more! I am just glad that it will be open for morning ERT at WCB!!
MrSum1_55 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Not that I have really had time to observe zac spins, but is it possible that the seats just needed some time to loosen up a bit? The ride seems to be running much better now than when it opened, but it still does not look as insane as Insane. On one of my most recent rides, our car was barely off balance, but we received two flips in the second half. Â Also, to ride with minimal discomfort, keep your body against the restraint, and try to avoid being stapled in your seat by the restraint. So, essentially, it is the reverse strategy of X2, where it is best to keep your body back against the seats. Â Actually, pretty much all rides with Intamin 2nd and 3rd generation OTSR's have that same problem; they really are great restraints, except toward the end of the ride, when they tend to get forced down. It is best to try to avoid this, although it can be difficult.
LaMapa Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 ^Have you ridden with 3 riders? When I rode with 4 we only got the courtesy flip at the end. With 3 we flipped like crazy as soon as we were off the lift.... Â 3 riders is BY FAR better than 4 unless the car is completely unbalanced. I have actually been on it with 2 riders before. One on each side. They made us sit back to back and we got a 1 flip ride. Just if they would do 2 on one side and no one on the other. That would be insane. And anyways, the ride is supposed to be painful! That's how it was designed. If it wasn't painful then it would be boring. So if you don't like pain then don't ride it. Â And nope, no music or fire on X2 on Monday. Not on either train.
dylanreich Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 ^One of the ride ops told me that they let themselves ride two on one side...
Chrisrad Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I'd better stop reading all of these reviews about GL. I haven't been on it yet, and it seems as if a few of you are experiencing discomfort while riding. Â For those of you who are saying it's 'painful', did you ride it once (or more the same day), then never again? On X2, I've experienced rides from Hell, then, a month later (approx.), it's a completely different ride. I'd hate to just assume that GL sucks because of what I've heard about it.. I guess I'll have to give it a few chances to decide.
kylexy2298 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 ^GL isn't painful as people are saying, it is just that it is intense and it does not suck at all!! It's hard to explain what the ride is like, but it is sertainly a lot of fun. And I rode it twice in a row, and it is intense but in a good way! Don't judge a ride you never rode before, because it could just be the best ride in the world!!
Chrisrad Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 ^ Yeah, I guess I'll just assume that it will be like X2 in terms of being an 'insane' ride, but it certainly won't be a smooth coaster like CA Screamin' or the like. Â Intense is good.. that's one reason why I like SFMM.
SharkTums Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Not that I have really had time to observe zac spins, but is it possible that the seats just needed some time to loosen up a bit? The ride seems to be running much better now than when it opened, but it still does not look as insane as Insane. On one of my most recent rides, our car was barely off balance, but we received two flips in the second half. Â No. We rode Insane very soon after opening, in cool weather, and it was incredible. It really is just the fact that the SFMM one has more trims, and staff that doesn't let the ride do what it can do.
DJeXeL Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 ^ This is true. The operators try to avoid letting 3 riders on at all costs. They do have an unofficial single rider line which I've taken advantage of on a few occasions. They just have you wait for a group of 3 or a single rider from the queue and just like that your chance of an "insane" ride is gone. Either way GL packs a punch for its size.
X2coasterfreak Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 It's like when I was there a few weeks ago, I was pissed off when I saw the ride op mixing around members of a party and saying, " I need to balance the car." Honestly is called a ZacSPIN for a reason so let it spin!
screaminkid2005 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 ^ This makes me sad. I really wanted to get some intense two person rides on it during ert. =[
MrSum1_55 Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 ^^Actually, if you have three relatavely light people, (my party) and one huge guy, you really can spin fairly well. You just need to hope that a large single rider will be available. Â So, this may be the first TPR event where you actually want to have ACErs show up during ERT.
