  1. Ok, thanks a lot. Already made a reservation at one of them.
  2. Really? What's the names of the towns they're in?
  3. Thanks for the Hotwire tip...I've found some good rates in Harrisburg, but when a city is concerned, you also have to look at traffic. I'd rather not stay in a congested part of the city, and like Hershey, I've never been to Harrisburg, so I don't know what the traffic is like there. One place I'm considering is in Harrisburg West. Anyone know what that area's like?
  4. I've never been down to Hershey PA, and I think this summer I'd finally like to do it. I've got my GPS to help me, which helped me find Knoebels last summer, now all I need to figure out is where to stay. I know next to nothing about the area around Hershey, or which ones even have motels. What I did last year was stay in a town very close to Elysburg, and I hope to apply the same strategy to Hershey. If anyone could give me some tips, I'd greatly appreciate it.
  5. Maybe remake was the wrong word. I think a re-imaging of this film would be interesting, because I do still like the original, despite the flaws I pointed out (Big Boy is a catchy song, I'll give you that). I don't know who could do George Segal's part, but for some reason I can see Cripsin Glover playing the bomber.
  6. I LOVE the Jerk. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. It's a shame that Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters don't see each other anymore, because they had great onscreen chemistry. Back on topic, the first movie that comes to my mind is 1977's Rollercoaster, which has been mentioned a couple of times already. It's the story of an extortionist who uses bombs to make coasters crash, and a ride inspector who helps the law try and catch him. It's a very interesting concept, that unfortunately wasn't utilized to its full potential. Part of this is because the movie is hijacked near the end by a totally pointless concert scene with the group SPARKS, which was actually intended for KISS, before they turned it down. I personally would like to see them remake this movie, and try to rectify the issues of the original.
  7. I have to be honest, I knew little to nothing about HSTC when I visited Knoebels for the first time last summer. I'm only just learning how much it means to some people. I can certainly understand where they're coming from, because my first coaster was the Blue Streak at Conneaut. But, It sounds like the park is doing what they can to make up for this, and I hope they'll succeed. It'll be interesting if I can get back there this summer, and see what they have.
  8. Hey all. I recently got back from my first ever outing to the legendary Knoebels in Elysburg, PA. In short: I loved the place. I loved the food, I loved the rides, I loved the coasters (Twister, especially), and I loved the atmosphere. They were efficient with the rides, but laid back at the same time. It was amazing to see them only running one train on both coasters, yet keeping the lines short at the same time. The fact that it was also free admission, with no fences, and you could bring your dog to the place added to this park's uniqueness. I often heard my parents talking about a small PA park where they grew up called Cascade Park, which no longer exists...and I am convinced that Knoebels is what Cascade would be now if it was still alive. You'll notice I took no photos of the Haunted Mansion...well, I need to confess, I've never been a fan of anything that jumps out and scares people in pitch-black darkness. (This is why I'm a popular target for "screamers" from my buddies, so they can see me jump and yell out expletives.) So I skipped that one. Overall though, this is easily one of the best, most well-kept, and well-run parks I've ever been to. I'm so glad I chose this over going back to Darien Lake, or enduring the traffic and crowds around SFGADV. I shall return some day...despite the fact my last day there was very wet. They even had a flat-screen TV in the room. Definitely a step up from the other motels I usually stay at. I stayed at the Hampton Inn in nearby Danville...VERY nice place. I recommend it to anyone in the area. Looks even better at night. Nice little sign... Did I mention I'm a pinball geek too? I love me some Skee-Ball! I don't usually bother riding Merry-Go-Rounds, but I stood around admiring this one quite a bit. I don't see too many amusement parks with covered bridges. Lot's of old-fashioned charm to this place. The Log Flume actually broke down just as I was leaving the station on my ride...still had a good time though, once they fixed it. Still, that didn't stop me from having multiple rides, and taking multiple pics... I loved it, but I think it gave me a nasty little bruise on my left arm. Power Surge...this ride is INSANE. Fandango was interesting too. It's the first ride of its kind I've ever been on. My next favorite ride was the Cosmotron. I love the concept of placing a flat ride indoors with lights and music. I especially loved when they played Ozzy's "Crazy Train". Phoenix was no slouch either, though...I've never been on a woodie with this much airtime. It was cool. Airtime is all well and good, but I love a coaster that's not afraid of curves either. Train returning from yet another kick-ass ride. Easily one of the best Woodies I've ever been on. I rode it multiple times. Yours truly on the Twister
  9. I've never been to Chessington Worlds of Adventure (Heck, I've never even been to England), but I remember finding a website dedicated to this unique sounding ride from the 80's. http://www.reride.net/parks/chessington/5thdimension/ I was wondering if there was anyone here who had any sort of memory of this attraction, and could possibly share it here. It's a shame it doesn't exist anymore.
  10. You know, the original Haunted Mansion was to be a walk-through attraction with a guide...but of course, concerns over the ride's capacity led to it being changed into an omnimover ride. That looks really cool, though.
  11. I'm not surprised at all about Wall-E. I'm sure it's a wonderful film, but it's also a film with a message. If you look at all the conservative jerks out there who decry this movie as liberal propaganda on IMDB, you'd understand why I'm not surprised. Also, some people just think it's boring, and they don't wanna think when they go to the movies. But that's just the way people are. I remember hearing about how Fantasia was also considered a flop when it first came out, because it didn't deliver what audiences were expecting. But time has made it a classic. I'm not sure if Wall-E will have that kind of staying power in the years to come, but I do know where Pixar will go from here. Wall-E will be considered a flop (Mainly because summer box office expectations are just incredibly overblown for every movie), Disney will have a fit, and then we'll see a return to the tried and true Pixar formula that everybody seems to want...we may even see...SEQUELS...*Shudders*
  12. IOA looks so cool. Especially marvel island. They should really work something out with Paramount, so that they can put in an Iron Man themed Coaster in that area...maybe a B&M Flyer
  13. I'm surprised to hear that some of the themeing in Disaster Transport is actually getting some love. I don't think it should be torn down, it's a good coaster for younger folks...but there's got to be a way to improve on that ugly, warehouse style exterior. As for the trees issues, I'd like to see at least a few more at CP...not because I'm a tree-hugger or anything, it'd just be good to have more shade. I've been to that park in the dead heat of early August, and you just bake in there all day, especially in the front area of the park.
  14. Amazing...and I thought I'd seen it all when it came to waterparks. Why the Travel Channel keeps ignoring this and continues to push Schlitterbahn, I'll never know...
  15. I say it's Serial Thriller as well. GE needs to learn from the mistake of being a Six Flags park in Upstate NY. SF just does not give a damn about that region. They keep it around for a little extra revenue, but in the Northeast, it's all about Great Adventure to SF. Darien Lake has severed its ties to the chain, and things are already looking up for them a couple years later. GE should follow suit, if they want to survive.
  16. I'm gonna be going to this park next week for the first time, and your photos have me all the more psyched for it.
  17. Well...old Veklona is finally learning from their past mistakes. I'd love to see them renovate their older coasters with the newer trains some more. That might make the Mind Eraser at Darien Lake actually rideable.
  18. I'm astounded at all the MF bashing that goes on in this forum...but I'm glad you at least liked Kennywood, another favorite park of mine. Given the choice between the two parks though, I'm likely to go with Kennywood every single time. True, CP has more coasters, but Kennywood is just a better all-around park experience. It's not as crowded, there's more places to sit, and the food's better, I think.
  19. Yay! My hometown park FINALLY got a new coaster. Hopefully this will mark the start of a new era for DL, that will leave behind the years of negligence under the Post-Superman Six Flags Era. Now, just tear down the predator, replace it with something else, and my hopes for the place will go up even more.
  20. That's a real shame...Double Loop was a great little coaster...and one of the few smooth arrow loopers I've been on, hehe.
  21. My vote also goes to Kennywood's thunderbolt. Just drops you right into the action from station. I've never been on it, but the start of Morey's Pier's Great White looks interesting too, going underneath the go kart track.
  22. Beautifully designed place. I tip my hat to Disney for yet another marvel of architecture that they've turned out.
  23. The last time I felt that was years ago, when I first rode MF.
  24. For me it had to be the last time I rode the Predator at Darien Lake. That has to be the most agonizing woodie I've ever ridden, and I've been on Mean Streak.
  25. I haven't been back to CP in years, but from what I can tell, you'll want to hit MF, TTD, and Maverick as early as possible. If you ever have the opportunity, try staying at the Sandcastle resort near the park. Not only does it have great rooms and a view of the lake, but it's also close to the Magnum entrance, giving you easy access to that coaster as well.
