The Parks of Pennsylvania

Yeah, New Castle's a big producer of fireworks...about the only thing that place has going for it now. -
Ok, that seemed to do the trick. Thanks
-
No, the card's been in my camera the whole time. I hooked the camera itself to my computer.
-
Ok, this thing's already having a problem. For some reason, the camera itself can't access the photos I've saved on my memory card, and it won't save any new shots. It just goes to the same "No images" screen. Anyone know what's going on?

Actually, I just remembered I had Irfanview, which I used to help with my Knoebels pics last year. So next time, I'll just use that, I think.

Very nice, indeed! Glad to see it all went well for you two. This really makes me hope even more that my state legalizes same sex marriage some day. -
Sounds good. Can't wait to see it. Also, is anyone from this site going to be around on July 13 or 14? I'd love the chance to meet a fellow TP'r

Well, I decided to use Photobucket to resize my shots, so here they are Just a shot of my favorite poster in my room. My Parrot, Pippin. My dog, Orion, who was just recently sheared. He looks a lot bigger with longer hair. I even caught her in mid-yawn. Quick shot of my cat, Ivy.

I decided that for my trip this summer, I wanted to go beyond a pair of simple disposable cameras. So, today, I bought a Sony Cybershot DSC-S950 at Best Buy. I've never owned a digital camera, but I'm confident I can learn how to properly operate it before I head out in mid-July. I wanted to share some test shots I took with this thing, but the file sizes are way over 150k. How do you reduce that when you put the pics on your computer?

The Parks of Pennsylvania
Movieguy replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, comparing PA parks to CA and FL, though, is sort of like comparing apples and oranges IMO. PA is home to a lot of great traditional parks, while CA and FL have the more modern ones. -

You know, I remember when I was a kid, and an Arrow Corkscrew was a cause for great excitement. How the times change, huh? -

You know, I remember wondering why people were always complaining about the roughness of MS years ago. I haven't been back to CP in some time, but I have recently ridden another woodie that has the same reputation, Darien Lake's Predator. In 1999, I had no problems with it, but in 06 and 07, it was really painful. I have a feeling I'd have the same unpleasant experience with MS now. I'm not sure though why I didn't find it so painful in 02, or other times in the 90s...maybe it has to do with me being younger, and smaller back then. -
About a month ago, my faithful old Zune, after 2 years, finally died out on me. Luckily, I could afford a new multimedia device, so I decided to buy myself a 16 gig Ipod Touch. I didn't want an IPhone, because I hardly use my regular cell phone enough to justify a contract. I'm really glad I took a chance with this device, because it is awesome. The screen is so big, and perfect for watching movies (I bought software a year ago which can rip videos from my DVDs, which helps with this). The overall interface is nice and slick, and the touch-screen technology is implemented perfectly. My only gripe right now is with the wireless connection. It can't seem to last 5 minutes without losing the connection to my router. Then again, I plan on getting a new router in the near future anyway, so that might help (My current once has been in use since about 2004) Also, a question to anyone who'd know...what's the best poker game to buy for it right now? On my Zune, I had a great Texas Hold 'em game that I played a lot, and I want to find something like that for the Ipod. Problem is, there's a lot of Poker games for it, and it's not clear which one's the best bet.

Wow...Colossus looks like it's in real need of some TLC. Good thing Thorpe has coasters like Stealth and Saw to soften the blow of seeing this fallen giant. I also keep hearing that X\:No Way Out is going to get a re-theme someday, but I see that's still yet to happen. Plus, whenever I see pictures of Flying Fish, I always think about the time I read that it started its life indoors, as "Space Station Zero". I'm a sucker for Space Mountain wannabes, and I'm having a hard time finding photos of the coaster in this state. Does anyone know if any exist? -

That'd be great if Kennywood got a Eurofighter. I've always wanted to ride one of those neat little coasters, but I can't afford to go to Europe, where most of them are. -
I could definitely see this becoming a seasonal item at least. Both throwbacks are selling really well at the store I work at, and I think Pepsi could see the value in keeping this product around in an on/off basis. As I was saying earlier, this would be a great item to bring out every year in the summer.

The Parks of Pennsylvania
Movieguy replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That is rather interesting to think about. I remember last summer, going to Knoebels in the middle of July, and both Phoenix and Twister were only running one train. I thought I'd have to wait forever to get on, but the wait was always a surprisingly short one. At the risk of sounding overly proud of my parents' home state, a lot of Pennsylvanians seem to have this wonderful, almost German, work ethic, and sense of efficiency that sets them apart. Though sometimes, that's hard to notice, when you drive through the highways there, which seem to always be under construction... -

^ Funny you should say that, because I've always wanted to experience the southern charm of places like Dollywood, one of these days. -
I know there are tons of nice parks all over the country, and the world, but I just wanted to bring my perspective to one rather notable state... I was born and raised in Upstate NY, but both of my parents grew up in Western PA, in a town called New Castle. In that town, there used to be a great little amusement park called Cascade Park, which closed around the time I was born. They used to talk to me all the time about the coaster they used to have, which dipped into the ravines of the park. It sounded quite a bit like Kennywood's Thunderbolt, looking back on it. About 3 times in my life now, I've gotten to experience the Wonderful Kennywood Park, outside of Pittsburgh. Last summer, I finally visited Knoebels, and got to know the homespun charm of that place, which I hope to see again sometime. This summer I'll be seeing Hershey, which I've heard many marvelous things about. I've not seen Dorney yet, but I hope to at some point in the future. This got me thinking...what is it about Pennsylvania? How was this state able to create some truly memorable and pleasant amusement parks? Granted, not all of them can be great, but the good ones I have been to have this indescribable, enjoyable quality to them. It's the kind of feeling I haven't really felt at any of the parks I've been to in Ohio or New York. Maybe it's personal bias, because my family has so many connections and roots in the state. I'm not sure. In any case, I'd love to hear the thoughts from any locals, or outsiders on the matter. Maybe some of you can shed some light on what makes the parks of the Keystone State so unique.

Wow...it'd be great to see Kennywood get another coaster. I'm not sure where it would fit on such a small park, but it's an interesting thing to think about. -
Magnum’s new sign at Cedar Point!
Movieguy replied to Coasterfanatic245's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Gemini is really the unsung hero of CP, the more I think about it. If it weren't for that coaster, there probably wouldn't have been a Magnum, MF, TTD, or Maverick. It's become even more of a gem hidden in a mountain of hype, IMO. -
