Rank Your Home Park's Coasters
TheoB replied to Imagineer Josh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thorpe Park -> 1. Saw 2. Stealth 3. Nemesis Inferno (near the end of the day this is number 2) 4. Swarm 5. X 6. Colossus (better than X in the front but its 2 across which means like an hour queue for the front row) 7. Flying Fish -

Will they push your restraints or do you have to do the self hug like at Dollywood? If someone doesn't fit, literally 3 ride ops will come over and put all of their body weight on you. -
Olympia Looping in England???
TheoB replied to gerstlaueringvar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The reason theres not a wristband system is it would be incredibly expensive to enter while still being fair to all the operators. Theres well over 50 different showmen/showomen there and splitting the money equally would be nearly impossible. Renting out Hyde Park isn't exactly cheap and you would be suprised at how much profit they make as its nowhere near as much as you would think. -

I reckon £8-£12, probably will land right in the middle. I think it will be ten pounds or over. Wilde Mause XXL was eight or nine pounds last year, and I guess it will be more than XXL. Wild Maus XXL was £8 last year but I have the feeling they could go cheap because of its capacity to encourage rerides maybe. -

I reckon £8-£12, probably will land right in the middle. Sidenote for anyone interested on the 17th of November (Thursday) there is a preview night from 5-9pm where you pay £60 for an unlimited wristband! If anyone would like to go you have to signup here: http://www.supporttheroyalparks.org/events/events_in_hyde_park/1654_winter_wonderland_charity_preview_night?utm_source=registeredinterest&utm_campaign=ww2016&utm_medium=email&utm_content=WW%20link%201&dm_i=1EGE,4JURO,O1WY5F,GVEME,1 -
Theme Park Three Mistakes
TheoB replied to Rollercoaster Rider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Because they definitely increased the height restriction for no reason... Mack (or whoever made it pretty sure its Mack?) made them change it. not much they could do honestly. Thorpe Park: Building Slammer (Not) Operating Slammer Fixing Slammer (ish) and moving the problem over to Samurai. -

Got to recommend on Rush having it a inch or two up, the airtime is so much better (and get on the damn far arm, it goes a good 20 degrees higher)

Movie Park Germany Discussion Thread
TheoB replied to apollo210's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is pretty much me exactly. I was originally thinking Plopsaland de Panne (close to Calais), Toverland, Phantasialand, Tripsdrill and Holiday Park but now I am just stuck whether to remove Plopsaland or Toverland to go to Movie Park Germany. May end up just going to all 3 though - in the ideal world! -

True that^ but honestly if your coming from another country your wasting your time queuing for DBGT, its absolute garbage unless you in a big group, and even then its more funny than scary. -

Pretty there was a typo and you meant FB has 24 seats. Even though it scales fairly well you have to remember this includes the train moving into the station and exiting, although Shambhala does have a significantly longer train. To be fair though half the train is fastpass Besides at PortAventura the whole time I was there they had 2 people checking the whole train plus the batcher so 1 minute dispatches is honestly not that bad with a skeleton crew in the summer months. I did mean fourty but I was on the phone and it auto corrected to four. Obviously it cannot launch in four seconds!!! They have got timers on it counting down from 40 seconds but honestly they are never quick enough its more like 50-60 seconds without delays. -

Definitely ride it late in the day. It's best if you're on the last train of the night, front row, carrying a car door, and yelling at disabled people. Seriously, though, this is a great trip report. Love the photos. definitely going to ride this technique next time cheers for the tip -

For Nemesis Inferno, you absolutely have to ride it later on in the day, it gets a lot faster and more intense! Cannot believe you didn't ride Rush though, your really missing out! Glad you liked Detanator the UK's not so premier drop tower (Jolly Roger at Pleasurewood Hills - basically a taller version of this with different seating!) -

Even then, with the 3 car trains it would have to dispatch once every 36 seconds to reach 1200 riders per hour which honestly is just not happening. I don't think the capacity will be a big problem though on this ride as it is a separate admission but in the first year its going to be a capacity nightmare. 1000rph seems more realistic -
TOP 5 B&M INVERTED COASTERS
TheoB replied to CoasterExpert13's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Only been on 3 B&M inverts but its a very clear order honestly: 3. OzIris - this ride seemed pretty overrated to me quite honestly its not that forceful but it does have length which my other two lack. 2. Nemesis Inferno - on good days this can beat Nemesis especially towards the end of the day it runs very fast but generally its just not as good. 1. Nemesis - I love a lot about this ride especially the overbanked turn and the amazing downwards helix. Pretty much perfection in my eyes. -

With time slots generally at the UK Merlin parks they seem to do an 'allocated time or later' sort of system. I don't visit Alton Towers at frightfest but everyone I know said the first weekend was empty and it will probably stay like this until the schools break up. -

If your going to straight to Thorpe Park from Gatwick there are trains that go from Gatwick to Staines (nearest town) in less than an hour. If you are going during Fright Nights you can get the bus from the station but otherwise you can get a taxi. https://tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/results?IsAsync=true&JpType=publictransport&InputFrom=Gatwick+Airport+Rail+Station&From=Gatwick+Airport+Rail+Station&FromId=1000901&PreviousFrom=&InputTo=Staines+Rail+Station&To=Staines+Rail+Station&ToId=1001501&PreviousTo=&Date=20161005&Time=2030&Mode=bus&Mode=tube&Mode=national-rail&Mode=dlr&Mode=overground&Mode=tflrail&Mode=river-bus&Mode=tram&Mode=cable-car&Mode=coach&CyclePreference=AllTheWay&WalkingSpeedWalking=average&JourneyPreference=leasttime&AccessibilityPreference=norequirements&MaxWalkingMinutes=40&WalkingSpeedTransport=average&InputVia=&Via=&ViaId=&PreviousVia=&NationalSearch=false&WalkingOptimization=false&SavePreferences=false&IsMultipleJourneySelection=False&JourneyType=&IsPastWarning=False -

Unfortunately, the way Merlin run things this was bound to happen. Similar situations have arisen before (spinball etc) but luckily nobody was hurt those times. Paying staff a bonus based on thru-put is asking for trouble and cut corners. I am quite interested what happen on Spinball, if it is this: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3146958/Riders-left-hanging-Alton-Towers-rollercoaster-gets-stuck-mid-ride.html Then that definitely isn't an accident, its two vehicles colliding at low speeds in the brake run. This is not even close to what happened on the Smiler so saying its similar is just dumb and uninformed. -
Rocky Mountain Construction 2017?
TheoB replied to kickflipbacktail's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Even though Ghostrider runs more cycles than any woodie in the country, I'm sure that Knott's will continue to maintain it. They didn't spend all that money on new trains and re-tracking just to have it deteriorate in a few years. The switch to MF trains, along with the re-profiling of certain areas and the use of Brazilian Hardwood, should keep GhostRider running smooth for many years to come. Does it really rub more cycles than any other wooden coaster in the country? That's pretty interesting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk i think it's assumed because Knott's is open year round. but i'd only believe it if i saw some true statistics. i'd think there's gotta be some wood coasters out there that run more cycles total in the year. Wodan and T Express are probably up there too. -

Good catch! My ride did not have "evacuation mode" so I didn't piece that together in my head. Again I am not an expert The report specifically commented that the control panel showed the location of all of the trains. Panels don't show exactly where they are on the track, because there aren't sensors everywhere. Maintenance would have seen five indicators but because they believed only four trains were on the track, the fifth one was presumed to be a "ghost" that was manually cleared at the base of the lift. This reminds me of how California Screamin's control booth has signs up indicating which trains are running - a manual solution to help keep everyone abreast of exactly what's going on. The Smiler along with all the other 3+ train coasters (as far as I know) have this at Merlin parks, eg Sequoia Adventure and Saw. I think the two/three car train rides also have this. -

Fireball as well! If you were wondering about Over the Hill, Henry, it winds it way towards the entrance of the Vortex waterslides near Rage's cutback and final helix then snakes back to the end of the Vortex waterslides. -
