^ Paypal blows. Fighting them is like explaining Gross Domestic Product to a 2 year old, completely worthless. My rant goes to my landlord. He has the brilliant idea to place a sheet of paper under my door last night at 2 am letting me know the power would be turned off at various point this afternoon. Even better was the power was only cut two my apartment and a business below me, yet everything else in the complex had no problems. Would it really have killed him to tell me why he was doing this? There are a grand total of FIVE apartments (one is empty) and this is the only property he owns. Then again, the same moron thought I was one of the people evicted from a different apartment. Then again, how he confused a fat white guy in his mid-20's with a 19 year old skinny Asian girl full of piercings and tattoos is beyond me.

Beech Bend Discussion Thread

This is great for the park. When I visited this year, I was kind of surprised at how small the water park area was. This is the perfect addition to the park. -
^ While I agree somewhat they are stretching itself a little thin. However, the bigger problem I see is trying to convince China that the Disney characters mean something. It is hard enough to get kids today to care about Mickey Mouse with all the other entertainment options in a country where he is an icon. With that said, I am excited for the park. Even if the park were to bust, there could be great ideas moved to the other parks worldwide.

Up and Monsters, Inc on Blu-Ray - $12.86 for both from amazon and I still over paid

It's truly an outstanding idea and theme. The only things it involves is black curtains, fog, music, some LCD lights, a strobe light, a new ride sign and a fake DJ stand. The ride cycle itself has no change (aka not more intense) and there is nothing scary for kids. They also improved the ride this year with the new LED lights. I really love what SF Great America does with their flat rides for Fright Fest. Rue le Dodge does a rock music version of Terror Twister. On top of that the Revolution, King Chaos & Condor (when it runs) use more intense ride cycles. I wish all parks went the extra mile on even simple flat rides.

The end of a thrilling decade.
monsterfan99 replied to Miltonmx's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
- The entire Hard Rock Park saga and Jazzland/SFNO as a case study for the amusement industry to use for decades to come. - The death of the simple sit-down looping coaster as a big attraction for parks. The need for "gimmicks" such as floorless trains, on-board audio and launches replaces the need to just turn people upside down. - Orlando's first decade since the 1960's where no massive theme park is built. The area takes 10 years off of building parks with no new ones in sight. - The lose of surprise within the theme park industry. I mean rumors and building permits are online before a park can announce a ride. Or in the past, you only had word of mouth review or a badly shot video to know about a ride. Now you have full blow POV in HD quality. It seems a lot of the surprises in the industry (and all industries) is gone. - The beginning of steel coasters meeting the end of their operations. While some rides were lost in the past, more and more steel coasters are being replaced at high numbers. It makes one wonder where the first few B&M coasters will be in 10-20 years. -
Using the Flash Pass for front row on Canyon Blaster at SFOG. To better explain this, here is the setting - 100 degrees at noon on a Monday - Line was over an hour - Parents yelled at 2 adults riding their kids ride Overall, it was outstanding A close 2nd is waiting in line for 4 hours right after opening hoping HRRR at USF would open for a soft opening. My fiancee stood with me the entire time despite having the flu.

^ I can argue it with this article http://www.pottstownmercury.com/articles/2009/10/14/sports/doc4ad5c2c693540620466010.txt That is from the players themselves. I'm going to take their word over a baseball nerd who, odds are, has never played past high school (talking stats people, not directed at you.) I'm done with this discussion as well, as it is hard to do in a non-conversation way. When discussing philosophies, it is better to do so in person.

First, nothing like proving your point by insulting. It is a theory that can not be proven right or wrong. Plus, your info was from a group that is pro-sabermetrics. Here is a wonderful anti-sabermetrics article http://www.tnr.com/article/against-moneyball The article is the truth. Some random stats can not fight money. Money, like in life, is what produces results. Just ask the Yankees.

^ There is a great book you should read. It is called How to Lie with Statistics by Darrell Huff. Written in 1954, it still applies to this day. And I ask you this, how many titles has Billy Bean won? Also, where is the team now? Their success couldn't have been because of their young staff, who have done nothing since leading to steroids talk, pitching in a extreme pitcher's park. Since 2006, the team has been under .500 and won a grand total of 1 playoff series in the years in the playoffs. Also, look at the results of Game 1 of the 2003 ALDS between Oakland and Boston. Look at how the game ended and tell me bunting should never be picked over swinging.

These two both have a lot to do with how awful John Farrell is as a pitching coach. Also, with Smoltz, he went to the best pitching coach in the history of the game (Dave Duncann) whom Smoltz said was a key to how well he did. In the NL, if it is a tied game in the top of the 7th in a 0-0 game, do you leave the pitcher to hit or pull him for a batter to score? In the AL, there would be no question. Tell me the equal strategy there. OPS is a worthless stat by itself, as most are. It simply rewards HRs and punishes players for hitting singles. Look at Chone Figgins. Figgins had an OBP of .395, which was 7th in the AL and and 17th over all. He had 114 runs scored, 2nd in the AL & 3rd overall along with 42 steals, top 10 in baseball. However, because his SLG was .393, that would leave him with a OPS of .789. This is good enough for 48th in the AL between Adam Jones and Marco Suctaro. With OPS, Figgins was punished for trading power for walks and base running. Hell, with OPS, David Ortiz did better then Figgins. This is despite the fact Figgins was better then Ortiz in every category except 2B (only trailed by 5,) HR & RBI.

Your Favorite Ride of The 1970's

Mindbender at SFoG is the best to me, although I really enjoyed Tornado at Adventureland. -
Give me the pitcher hitting any day of the week. I have no interest in seeing a has-been trying to extend their career by hitting a HR or bust. Plus, for the AL manager, there is really not much skill involved compared to the NL. In the AL, if a pitcher is ready to come out, out he goes. In the NL, there is how close to pitch's spot in the line-up, who is on the bench or should they make the double switch. The biggest thing against the NL that most people have is they know nothing about the teams. Yeah people hear about the Cubs and select players, but that is it. With ESPN and various other channels of sports news, all you hear is Yankees or Red Sox. I mean, more people who who Joba Chamberlin is instead of Tim Lincecum, which says a lot.

The biggest problem when comparing the NL vs AL in the interleauge play is the DH rule. AL teams are forced to bench a better fielder for their big hitter, plus their pitchers can't hit (minus CC.) For the NL, their DH is normally a joke. To put this in perspective, this would like in the NFL having the AFC play with 10 players and NFC play with 11. Outside of the ridiculous AL East, no one ever wants to win the AL Central and AL West is the LA Angels road show.

To me, my absolute favorite before it was just removed was Chang. Outside of that, basically any B&M Invert comes to mind. -
