  1. Stupid thought after hearing a song on the radio today - Does else think Bryan Adams "Run to You" would be a good song for a TPR video? OK, I know you are are saying WTF, but think about. He sings about how much his girl/wife loves him but is he always running to someone or something else. I think it's a rollercoaster. Then think about how many of the male coaster enthusiasts travel to amusement parks without their wife or girlfriend. Bryan Adams wrote that song for a roller coaster. I know it! I'm going to tackle quantum physics next.
  2. anyone who spends only 10 minutes at Timber Falls is foolish. Get the wristband and ride Avalanche for at least an hour. It's one those coasters that you get off just laughing and saying WOW!. Although everyone I saw getting off the log flume was drenched and many said is was fun. And make sure you have some quarters in your car when driving on Chicago highways as some are toll roads. I had to get off the highway at night and the tool booths were unmanned and I had to dig through my the pocket in my backpack scrounging for change.
  3. I wanted to vote for ingking but I think those wheels are toture for rodents, not cool. Expedition Beer Run is always cool, who doesn't love a beer run. However, who can pass on voting for the fat people so I went with Expedition Esophagus
  4. Indiana Beach typically sells wristbands for 7-8 hour time period. 6 hours should be enough time if you don't have to go to the waterpark. Mt Olympus you might need 5-6 hours if you want to ride all the go kart tracks (which vary greatly in quality) and power ride on Hades. Timber Falls is really just one coaster and best hit later in the day when they sell the nighttime wristband. Much cheaper than a full day wristband and you easily get 10 rides in over the course of an hour. SFGam is really an all day park if you want to hit all coasters, even a day and a half if you want to take in the waterpark. Due to breakdowns and capacity Deja Vu, Whizzer, Ragin Cajun could each possibly eat up an hour. SFKK - 5 hours should be enough time to hit all coasters and see the whole park
  5. DMV probably thought it was shorthand for a name like Caster, Frank I once saw a guy in a neck brace get into a car with the license plate VIPER at SFGAdv. not really , but I thought it was funny
  6. I think Chang and Thunder Run are the best and I choose Thunder Run. But there still at least 3 dozen others woodies at other parks I would rather ride. Maybe my view of Thunder Run is influenced but the fact I rode Legend, Raven, Cornball and Hurricane Hoosier over a three day period and TR is just not in the same class with 3/4 of those other woodies.
  7. Excellent response - A park that charges $50-$60 admission with little discounting and is generally packed does not "need" anything.
  8. sorry Shepp but I have to side with Six Flags on this one. As an enthusiast it is common knowledge that SF was raising prices and you knew it. (not saying this to be snitty) Even though the old web page said the price would hold through the end of February they most likely also had a disclaimer at the bottom saying that prices were subject to change at any time (standard legal wording on most sites). But it just goes to show the new SF will be different from a customer service perspective, if they honored the old price for you.
  9. From the Astroland website : Astroland is open weekends Sunday, April 9th - June 11th and daily June 16th - September 4th, and then weekends Sept 9th - Mid October date to be determined Astroland has traditionally opened on Palm Sunday (the Sunday before Easter). For the atheists, agnostics or anyone else who has never heard of Easter you can always check the website if you don't want to follow this handy tip.
  10. What if you made the title or your thread more descriptive?
  11. remember don't eat at Lakemont, go to DelGrosso's hungry! The pizza is there is that good. Also pick up a couple of jars of sauce at DelGrosso's when you are leaving if you like pasta. I highly recommended the traditional marinara sauce and the vodka sauce is yummy also.
  12. well if you really want to be credit whores and by the middle of the 2nd day at SFGAm you decide you want to do something else, you can drive to a little park in Madison, Wisconin called Little A-Merrick-A. I haven't been and I haven't heard stellar reviews of the park but they have a few credits and it is on the way to Wisconsin Dells. US Road Tripper - thanks for backing me on the Candlewood Suites, I've stayed at them in Louisville and Richmond and found both very clean. However, I never heard of anyone else staying at them.
  13. and St. Louis was also Walt Disney's first choice for the location of Walt Disney World. I don't think it would have been as successful as Orlando
  14. Great Adventure 1974 - My dad, sister, brother and two cousins go on the Ferris Wheel. My dad drags my Aunt Mary unwillingly until the ride. The fiberglass "doors" to the gondola were about two feet high and similar to a miniature swinging gate as in a wild west saloon. We get to the top and my Aunt starts screaming and yelling that she wants out. My dad puts his arm around my aunt and says "sure" as he pushes the gates doors open and acts like he is going to force her out. Safety was a little different back then.
  15. Conneaut Lake Park is approx. 45-60 minutes south of Waldameer. That is the only park between Knoebels and Waldameer. Not a big park but Blue Streak is pretty darned scary in the back row.
  16. I completed it also - I'm sure you will notice a big difference in the responses by age group
  17. does "one" qualify as "enough" world class rides?
  18. I've been lucky to get on most of the great woodies in the US over the past few years, but the one I really need to do someday, I don't know when is Tremors. Also I don't know when I'll make it to Cliff's. Maybe I can sneak Rampage in some time this year. FYI - I haven't ridden The Beast in 4 years, but it was one of those coasters I heard about for over 10 years before I finally rode it. Enjoy

    Dining out.

I'm always on the lookout for a Chili's or Chic-Fil-A
  20. I personally like staying at Candlewood Suites. There are a couple in Louisville. There are also a couple in Indy, between HW and IB. Reasonably priced with a refirgerator and microwave in every room. Decent gym in each location and clean rooms. You probably don't need 2 days in Wisconsin Dells. While in The Dells avoid "Top Secret". It is right next to Mt. Olympus and a waste of money. At Kennywood there are many unique rides and I think the Kangaroo is a must and even though people rip the conversion of the Old Mill into Garfield's Nightmare it is still worth the ride. The flats are run well there. At IB the flats are also run very well including the Falling Star and Sea Dragon. The Water Swing and Air Crow are a must becuase of their unique poistioning over the lake. Frankenstein's Castle is well worth the extra fee. And the sky ride is great because it goes right over many rides and gives a unique perspective especially of Lost Coaster of Superstituion Mountain. And you must ride LoCoSuMo twice, facing forwards and back to feel the whole ride. Who said Vekomas were rough? HW - not a big fan of their flats SFKK - the only flat I really liked was Quake, but I think it was removed last year.
  21. I believe there would be a Mickey D's in the park.
  22. Robb - since you are credited with the pictures posted with this coaster on rcdb. When did you take those pictures? rcdb says it has been SBNO for two years, but a sign says it is open on special Sundays. This was brought up on another site and I decided to go to the source of the photo for the answer.
  23. Nick - that story isn't that lame. I used to watch the coaster shows when they came on but it wasn't must see TV for me. I remember seeing the exact one you are talking about only two years ago and thought the guys friend attitude towards coasters was hysterical. Lo and behold I join this site last summer and it didn't hit me until 3-4 months later that the college student on the show was Elissa.
  24. I enjoy that it is a dust free environment. Thanks for vacuuming. Let me elaborate - I hate sneezing! Actually the videos might do it for some people, but not me. I do like the Photo TRs and this place finally got me off my butt to leave North America for some new parks. The arguments here do tend to be more civil. Hopefully all the new people read the TOCs and Robb's newest plea so it doesn't denigrate down to other sites..
  25. I also agree it is always better to put in the hours driving at night. Occasionally I'll drive part way to the next park, But I never want more than a 2 hour drive in the AM.
