  1. I think anyone who has been many of the Top woodies just scratches their head about a certain coaster being ranked so high. You know what I mean, you have ridden it multiple times and just don't get what every one else sees. This doesn't mean you hate the coaster and had a horrible ride, it means you just don't put on that top tier. The 2 coasters that fit into this category for me are Raven and The Comet (Great Escape). I rode Raven at least a dozen times in 2004 during my one trip to HW including the last ride of the night. Yes, it got better throughout the day and I enjoyed it but never did it for me. The Comet, I rode 6-7 times and again enjoyed it but it just didn't wow me. Robb/Elissa: if this seems too much like an overrated thread just delete it
  2. More than just attendance goes into the performance at a park. Attendance can be the same but the average $ spent becomes a bigger factor. I think SFFT is an excellent park and is most likely a park Cedar Fair would be interested in since it would not cannibalize other CF parks. Also, the clientele is the most civilized I have ever seen at a SF park. FYI - The last Six Flags annual report I have says Six Flags owns 206 acres that the SFFT theme park and waterpark sit upon
  3. I sat on the left side and also landed on the seat divider (Ouch!)
  4. children say the darnest things
  5. I believe this is one of the mysteries of the universe? Almost as awesome as what came first the chicken or the egg. BTW the egg was more scared of height and the chicken was terrified of speed. The chicken was quoted as saying that speed reminded him of rolling down the highway in the back of a semi on the way to slaughter. The egg mumbled something about an ancestor named Humpty when asked about height.
  6. damn - too bad I sold my 1,000 shares last month or else I could issue a press release also
  7. wow this is scary how many times some of you have been to the same park. For me the top parks for total number of days is complete guesswork but here goes: SFGAdv - (40 days, but that is from 1974-present, never more than 5 times in a season) Astroland - (15 days, mostly for The Cyclone) WDW - (10 days) CP - (9 days) Knoebels (6 days) HP - (5 days) PKD - (4 days) SFNE/Riverside Park (4 days)
  8. I got about 15 rides in a little over an hour on Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend. There was sometimes a one train wait if you wanted the front or back row. Otherwise walk-on city. I rode a lot in the first row of the last car.
  9. Some of my faves The pizza at DelGrosso's kicks Cesari's butt. The Beaver Tails at La Ronde are the best member of the fried dough family. Most Busch Gardens food rocks Famous Dave's at CP The biscuits at Mrs Knotts Fried Chicken at KBF I would say Nathan's at SFGAdv but you can enjoy the original at Coney Island. I love that Carowinds has a Chic-Fil-A since it is the best fast food Hot pretzels with Hershey's chocolate sauce at HP HP also has the best kettle corn Kennywood's Potato Patch fries with cheese and bacon
  10. AVERAGE SAT SCORES, ENTERING FRESHMEN, FALL, 2005 Florida State 1170 Univ Florida 1340 nice try though
  11. The only downside I could see students having is which large class sizes and parking on campus. Some of the the required/more popular classes can be in auditoriums with 200-500 students. Personally, I never needed a teacher to know my name to do well so it didn't bother me. But I only had, at most, one of those classes a semester. Since you are going for graduate level classes that shouldn't be a factor. Although the school is in Florida it still has southern charm and everyone is very friendly. I only preface that because some parts of Florida are like suburbs of Northern US cities. It's an extremely affordable city. Like any city with have and have nots, crime can be a problem in certain parts of town.
  12. I may have attended the worst Gator Growl ever my freshman year with The Smothers Brothers as the act in 1985. At least the skits from the students were great.
  13. glad i finally got my Cyclone credit over Labor Day weekend. I had a similar experience to "shesaidboom" is 2004. I hope the Twister ends up in a good place with caring ride ops (cough, Knoebels, cough) because it is an insane ride when run properly and all out.
  14. I dare say, a comparison of Knoebels is not complete without mentioning the Skooters, Flyer, Grand Carousel and Haunted Mansion. I love Kennywood also but would rather ride The Flyer and Skooters over any coaster at Kennywood. And that is not a knock on Kennywood.
  15. I love em all also but will go with Superman Krypton Coaster for its uniqueness and setting in addition to a great ride
  16. Having been to all parks in the poll I would select Knoebels for a family, unless your family is adrenaline junkies. There is plenty to do, it's relaxing, lines are rarely present and best of all economical. If all your family members are big coaster fans I'd pick Cedar Point over Great Adventure, mainly based on atmosphere ad as Parktrips says it is a mecca.
  17. my faves: Blue Streak @ CLP - the only drop I can not do with my hands up, violently serious air Cyclone @ Astroland - just plain scary Hades - into the tunnel to Hell Roar @ SFA - practically tosses you out of the side of the car Shivering Timbers - perfect floater air, out of my seat for 3/4 of the drop best non-first drop - Cyclops (stands out because I wasn't impressed with the rest of the ride)
  18. gum walls, gum posts, gum on the ground I have never liked gum
  19. I always contemplate telling the girl that asks me that I'll only take a picture if she is in it with me. However, these girls must be warned about this in training becuase whenever I visit the park solo the youngs girls with cameras ignore the 38 year old guy.
  20. People who pay an average of $60 for a season pass and visit the park 20 times bringing their average visit down to $3 and then complaining about the park raping them on expensive food. things that annoy me: a coaster full of screaming pre-teen girls smoking in queues trains with empty seats when the ride ops don't even call out for single riders groups of 4 in front of me that don't understand if I slide ahead of them to fill a empty seat that I am not causing them to miss a ride idiots who refuse to get off the rails when the ride ops ask idiots who push on the air gates people who complain when their kids don't meet the minimum height requirement people who refuse to try the test seat and then complain when they can't fit on the actual ride. a lot of things annoy me, I could go on forever
  21. I came across a magazine article stating that this is one of the better factory tours in the US. I wish I had known about this two years ago when I had a day to kill in Jax [/url]http://sallycorp.com/company/tours.htm sorry if I messed up the hyperlink
  22. Personally, The Comet just didn't do it for me. Maybe I caught it on a bad day last summer. LaRonde was a charming little place, easy to get to by public transportation with some unique, well run flats. Too bad the coasters aren't on par.
  23. Also, when I was at SFStL in April (during Final 4) they allowed one reride on the coasters (except Mr. Freeze) for the first 2 hours of park operations. They just quickly stopped the train in the station before sending it out again.
