Turtle Wax Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 This time, train just barely out of the station with the lapbars up. Not sure what had been done, but do you guys think they are testing rollbacks and evacuation before cycles? I wouldn't put much stock in that. I've never been involved with coaster testing but I can see them having some sort of jumper set up so they don't have to push down lapbars every test.
WildEagle2014 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Here are some new pics of the track taken yesterday. You can see in the one pic there is some type of red and blue bars going across the track pulling it together. There was no testing going on all weekend or today.
SuperShawn Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 For as awesome as Lightening Rod is looking in pictures, I can only imagine how impressive it will look in person.
kickflipbacktail Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 No testing of a full circuit up to this point? They have 10 days left. Can they really pull this off?
TyRush Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 What an engineering masterpiece. I mean that giant wave turn is unbelievable.
SFOG1991 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 I am really hoping the park announces whether or not this will be ready for preview day ASAP. I know they probably don't want to commit since they are cutting it close, but if it gets to the point that it definitely won't happen, I hope they say so. I am planning to take off work and go to the park and I really need to know by the end of this week.
coasterbill Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) Yeah I've decided to play it safe and go to BGW. We'll be sure to head back down a little later in the year though to check it out and I'm sure we'll be back for Smoky Mountain Christmas! We've got our Dollywood season passes ready to go! PixelRush Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) Sadly we won't know if they're testing or not, because video is restricted when it happens Also, it looks like they have indoor queue! Edited March 7, 2016 by PixelRush
WildEagle2014 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Not coaster related, BUT Dollywood has another big surprise for everyone at opening. Another major undertaking has been happening on Showstreet over the winter break that everyone is sure to love! Make sure you check it out as well!

betterday85 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Today, Dolly announced a 2016 tour and spoke briefly about Dollywood's upcoming opening. Some may find this interesting, especially around 2:50 in the video below...
Dollywoodlover20 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) I'll be in the Pigeon Forge area this weekend so I mean if I don't hear any roaring of the coaster or don't see anything out towards the Dollywood area, my thoughts on it opening on the 18th/19th will be holding on by my teeth. I know all Dollywood employees aren't allowed at all to say a word about testing, even if it's the smallest bit. So who knows what's going on? I do know the area (station/ que) and those lights up the lift look phenomenal and have exceeded my expectations. The theming of this is right up there with Mystery Mine. I love it so much! EDIT: Plus, here's something with it not opening on time. Dollywood won't get their "special" way of presenting the first test because people in the park will be videoing it at any chance they can. FaithPlus1 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 This is a thing of beauty. What a great setting for a roller coaster.
ajfelice Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Dolly could right by saying "end of the month" as to when Lightning Rod will open. She could be choosing her words carefully as to not give the impression of a guarantee. I will wait for an official announcement before writing off Opening Weekend.
robbalvey Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Dolly could right by saying "end of the month" as to when Lightning Rod will open. She could be choosing her words carefully as to not give the impression of a guarantee. I will wait for an official announcement before writing off Opening Weekend. This is my thought as well. Remember she's more of a "spokesperson" for the park and is not involved with the detailed operations, so perhaps she just said that knowing that it opens sometime it march and technically the 18th is closer to the "end" than the "beginning." I'll wait for something official from the park. Either way though, Lightning Rod is a pretty aggressive roller coaster with a really tight schedule. Even if it ended up being a few weeks late I don't think it would impact too many things in the long run...
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 ^This. Perhaps she can boot those amplifiers, and speed up the testing process. I know when I get behind on things, they always get me moving more quickly so I can finish the job.
PixelRush Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Maybe she can convince some of the workers to go faster
prozach626 Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 ^If they're into chicks who are almost dead and half plastic... I guess at 14 anything gets you 'excited.'
Nrthwnd Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 ^ Hey hey, no way to talk like that about Dolly. She's actually one of few iconic entertainers and artists around, who willingly takes pot shots at herself all the time. And laughs along with everybody else. And she isn't a "chick." She's a great woman/artist. If she wasn't, then you wouldn't have this great park. (Proud Dolly Fanboi)
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 ^If they're into chicks who are almost dead and half plastic... I guess at 14 anything gets you 'excited.' First and foremost, she is one of the most "ALIVE" people I've ever met. Secondly, she may have had a bit of work done, but she looks fantastic! Thirdly! I'm gonna be 50 this year, and not just anything gets me excited. But Dolly! Oh and... ...^what he said too!
