coasterfreaky Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 It doesn't take months to get 100 cycles if that's what it takes. Just running the numbers - if you budget 5 minutes per cycle, which is generous, you can do 12 cycles per hour. In an 8 hour day that's 96 cycles. This is do-able people!
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 ^Thank you. You just made one of the puppies stop crying.

It's a *bit* more complicated than that, unfortunately. The PLC that runs the ride has likely been in the stages of programming for a couple of weeks now, along with the installation of all the sensors, motors and electrics that ultimately push the train through the course. Each of the first few tests will likely have long periods between them as everything is analyzed. After that, they will need to test everything in every situation you can think of. E-stop half way up the lift? Train needs to stop in the middle of being transferred? Plus getting everything reset once those tests are successful! Honestly I still wouldn't worry though, if there aren't many major problems the PLC guys will likely pull a few all nighters and get most of these things sorted out before handing over to the park for their required testing, which is likely a bit more like you described above. Get all the operators trained on their 100 cycles or whatever, and then ready to go!
Comeagain? Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 A hundred cycles for training is a bit overkill. And AFAIK, most states don't require a certain number of test cycles to open to the public I.
The Geek Mojo Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Imma gonna be there March 24th whether it's open or not. But it's gonna be open.
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 ^Yay! Two puppies have stopped crying. Only 97 left. It would have been three, but blk_mamba choked one to death.
Ape Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 It won't be open by the time I get there in June, I hate puppies.
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 ^You cut Dolly deep man. Are you even human? Do you have a soul? There's only 95 crying puppies left. But at least they're alive.
horootle Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Last time I checked, they were ahead of schedule, so I don't see why they couldn't have it done in time... When was the last time you checked? Early December?
thrillerman1 Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Does anyone know the dates of the Spring hot rod show? I'm planning to be in the area early April and hoping to avoid it if possible. April 14-16. You can see the calendar of the biggest events in Pigeon Forge at http://www.pigeonforgetnguide.com/events/pigeon-forge-events-calendar/ . Most area spring breaks are April 1-10, so there will be slightly heavier crowds then as well. Thank you! Glad we'll be avoiding the hot rod crowd.

WildEagle2014 Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Nice video posted on Dollywod's Facebook page.
DoinItForTheFame Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Nice video posted on Dollywod's Facebook page. Very interesting!! I found the part about the sand dunes to be awesome, to know that's how they found out what the launch up LR's lifthill would feel like.
horootle Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 less than two weeks to go... any signs of life out there at dollywood !?!
ajfelice Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 ^Employees have been forbidden from posting any pictures or video of the ride once testing begins. The very nice video the park put out on Friday, IMO, is a very good sign. Being "Part 1," Dollywood is obviously putting something special together. A park employee who was the Instagram news source of progress said that the park plans to present testing in their own way. So for all we know the coaster could be testing. The video does say "this Spring" instead of an opening date, but I did some research and most promotional materials have said all along, "this Spring." Again, only my opinion, if they did not have a moderate amount of confidence the ride would open on-time, they would not put out a promotional material such as this video series. That would not only torture enthusiasts, but also be slightly disappointing to their guests overall.
horootle Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 people have posted photos from outside the park. Doesn't have to be an employee, maybe somebody's been by to see if it's been testing, it's a big ride!
Dollywoodlover20 Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Yea and the employee on Instagram has been a bit cryptic and dodgy of how he chooses his words when answering questions (He's being bombarded by them.) If you were to say "Yes the coaster is testing" you would have people flocking to the park to get pictures being it's easy access, and I'm assuming the Part. 2 video will come soon. It's being filmed by Upstop Media, the ones who filmed the documentary for Outlaw Run. The only spot that's not park premises to watch the coaster test would be in the hills behind those abandoned apartments, but I feel like Dollywood would have security cameras there. You know how people would have the tendency to want to jump the fences and get close to the coaster. Like if you go that way through the hills you can go all the way to the top of the launch.

No, Devin Olson Media did the Outlaw Run documentary, and judging from Devin's Instagram and also the style of this video, he's the one behind the camera for this as well.
Mrenata Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I'll be flying from Brazil to the US next week mainly to ride Lightning Rod on Easter weekend. Man, I will be so disappointed if the ride doesn't open on the 18th as expected
Dollywoodlover20 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Another photo was taken of the train today on Instagram. This time, train just barely out of the station with the lapbars up. Not sure what had been done, but do you guys think they are testing rollbacks and evacuation before cycles?
Nrthwnd Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Nice video posted on Dollywod's Facebook page. This video.
