DollyWould Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 The 2012 Dollywood park map is now live on dollywood.com! http://www.dollywood.com/upload/pdfs/dw-parkmap12.pdf
RCBoilermaker14 Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Cool map, sadly I won`t get to go to season passholder day due to my sister`s birthday party.
tntornadox Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 63 is as slow as Tornado goes, it's top speed can go above 70 on a hot Summer day. As for my reason for switching to Monday, the park is open 9-8 on that Friday in addition to Saturday, so it will probably be busy. Also, I the whole 'not opening til noon' thing is gonna kill us at Mystery Mine, I can just feel it... lol
BaMiTsPaT Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 ^Unfortunately my girlfriend had already made the hotel reservation for Thursday night, so it looks like we will be going Friday despite the crowds. I'm not too worried about getting all the coasters in, but does Dollywood have a "cramped" feel to it when it is crowded, or are the crowds usually spread fairly evenly?
Intimidator305 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I've been there many times when the whole parking lot was full and they were making people park in the overflow lot of Splash Country and I can say Dollywood is one of the best parks I've been to as far as the crowds being spread out, with the exception of the Country Fair area. Also, if you want to ride the train, get there several minutes before it arrives to get a seat.
tntornadox Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Precisely, it can handle a crowd pretty well. Just certain areas will feel more crowded than others if it is insanely busy, but otherwise, the crowds disperse quite well.
Hilltopper39 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Weather for Friday looks great, but a little spotty the rest of the weekend.

SuperShawn Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 ^ All the Dollywood responses on Facebook are stating 10am - 8pm
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Unfortunately, I'm now working on Friday, so me n' tha fam will be going on the 24th. No worries! Hopefully we can get in a few ride on WE before the hounds are released at 10. Jarett , January and I are so excited to ride. Alana... ...meh!
mousch Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I too cannot wait to ride this later this year, especially after riding The Swarm today
tntornadox Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 10AM is the opening time on Friday, 9AM on Saturday.
SuperShawn Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 With the weekend weather looking worse and worse, what rides will Dollywood not operate in the rain? And what is their thunderstorm operations like?
Randomman295 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I too cannot wait to ride this later this year, especially after riding The Swarm today ORLY! How is Swarm? Looked a little slow to me, but I can't tell how it feels from just video. Is it as forceful as any other B&M, or is it a totally different set of feelings?
Ed Farmer Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Is it as forceful as any other B&M... Nicely done.
tntornadox Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 With the weekend weather looking worse and worse, what rides will Dollywood not operate in the rain? And what is their thunderstorm operations like? We don't close for rain, we do for lightning, however. Most of the larger rides (coasters included) close when lightning is detected within 10 miles, while other rides close when it's a bit closer (6 mile radius). If it is that close, the only rides open are Blazing Fury and Imagination Cinema (the simulator) because both are indoors.
Jhcbiinoc Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I was just checking out the weather forecast for Friday, as I am getting ready to leave here early Thursday morning to drive up. So far it just says "T-storms" but not whether it is all day or not. Here's hoping everything still moves forward as scheduled!
r3vo Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Yeah, 70% chance throughout the day on Friday. Supposed to taper off towards the evening. Saturday looks like it will be hit or miss at 40%. Looks like I am going on Sunday afternoon.
coasterfreaky Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 (edited) Our local NBC affiliate has "some" POV from Wild Eagle...watch the video, but note that it starts out as news and weather and then goes in Live to Wild Eagle at about :29-seconds in. http://www.wbir.com/rss/article/212203/2/Dollywoods-new-ride-takes-flight Edited March 21, 2012 by coasterfreaky
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Nice video. It looks as if you maintain much more speed that I had previously expected. I can't wait to ride on Saturday! I will be there with bells on at 8am!
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 How is Thinderhead in the rain? I don't know about Thinderhead, but Thunderhead is awesome in the rain. Even better in light snow.
Intimidator305 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 A picture of the entrance to Wild Eagle was posted on Dollywood's Facebook page by Kevin Stone... Looks amazing!
UrbanLegend Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I knew this eagle was big, but I didn't fully realize until just now that it's could-totally-pick-up-and-carry-away-that-car-if-it-wanted-to big. Whoa! Amazing picture!
