middle_keeny
I'm interested to hear how the drop is on this one compared to those ARM/Larson towers. I'd be amazing to have a drop like that combined with the views of the Smoky Mountains. My biggest complaint of Wild Eagle is that you dont get much of a chance to enjoy the view on top of the lift hill. I was able to get a look under Drop Line yesterday and it has the ability to rotate. So I hope they will leave you up there and let you rotate a bit before you drop back down. LukeFlynn
I also heard that they went with Funtime because it provided the most capacity in the smallest footprint.

I was able to get a look under Drop Line yesterday and it has the ability to rotate. yes. One of the guys working in it confirmed the seats rotate on the way up. So I hope they will leave you up there and let you rotate a bit before you drop back down. Supposed too... Drop line was doing a lot of testing this morning and we watched several cycles of it. It rotates around the tower several times while ascending. Once it gets to the top of the tower it stops climbing, and makes one full rotation. Then it climbs just a few feet more and abruptly drops. Can't wait to ride Dollywoods unique to the States drop tower!!!
dstephe9
I also heard that they went with Funtime because it provided the most capacity in the smallest footprint. Makes the most sense to me knowing the size of the area and everything so I firmly believe this is the reason as well Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
KingRCT3
I'm interested to hear how the drop is on this one compared to those ARM/Larson towers. I'd be amazing to have a drop like that combined with the views of the Smoky Mountains. I've been on two Funtime drop towers, Skyfall which was the very first version, and Le Donjon de l'Extrême at Nigloland which is a similar design to this (it's slightly different than the transportable ones). Both are quite good, but not as intense as an Intamin dop tower for instance (never tried an ARM/Larson). Le Donjon is fun because the drop is lasting forever (it's 100m tall), but the initial jerk is quite mild, sadly. However, the seats are really comfy and free with these lap-bars, and it rotates all the way up including one full rotation at the top. I bet the views at Dollywood will be fantastic! STDog
Anyone know the status on Whistle Punk how far along is the construction My guess is not very. It was hard to tell much between the distance back form where it's blocked and all the stuff around. Of course I didn't look too hard either. coasterbill
Whistlepunk's track work was done with the train on the track on opening weekend but they had barely started on the load platform or queue. I'm sure a lot had changed since then though and imagine it won't be too much longer.
Thunderhead01
I was at the park a week ago couldn't help but notice how run down Daredevil Falls and Mystery Mine is getting I don't think it'll happen but I would love for Daredevil Falls to get the Timber Mountain treatment or for Mystery Mine to get a refurbishment maybe get new trains/cars that are lap bar only and some new effects like mist and the 1st half of the ride could definitely use some TLC in my opinion Edited April 5, 2017 by Thunderhead01
STDog
for Mystery Mine to get a refurbishment maybe get new trains/cars that are lap bar only I don't see them going lap bar only on MM (or TT or WE or any future inverting coaster in the park). coasterbill
The only refurbishment that Mystery Mine needs is a sign at the queue entrance that says "Not suitable for people that can't appreciate complete greatness when they see it".

knaiwear
Wait, what? If they replaced the trains with the 4-abreast lap bar only Gerstlauer trains you'd seriously be against that?

knaiwear
I don't either, and I like MM, but the lap bar only G trains are infinitely more comfortable and appropriate for that style of ride.

Dollywoodlover20
Mystery Mine is themed after an abandoned coal mine, they can get away with some of the outside wear. But the rust look on the roof of the main building is starting to wear off from sun damage, and with the views from drop line you can see everything growing on the roofs. Which again with the mods growing up there they can get away with that too. The inside...uhm...that's a different story. When I first rode Mystery Mine there was fog in the initial drop, fog in the first section of the ride along with mist. Now from what I've heard you're lucky to have the "bom bom" music to be turned up loud enough to hear. The last half has struggled we know that. The fire is down to one flame now on the side. The inside needs more than the outside lol OH and I think someone mentioned back about things in pockets on LR and then the coaster was down for some time Monday? Well there's a video on YouTube of a man who stupidly put his phone in his front pocket, left the phone on record and once the train hit that pre drop out the phone went and you can see it fly over the rows of riders and it lands and slams a kid then rides down the drop with him where it looks to either tumble down the track in pieces OR bounce off. Either way it lands directly beside the drop and you can even watch another train absolutely fly by.
DBru
I feel like lapbars on Mystery Mine would result in a lot of busted faces. That first vertical drop, ya know?
ytterbiumanalyst
I feel like Gerstlauer engineers are perfectly capable of understanding the concept of clearance envelopes. I would not expect anyone to be injured on this ride, regardless of restraints.
dstephe9
Daredevil falls has been rundown for a while IMO.. when something stops working, they just remove it.. I didn't notice the bear in the tent when I rode it Sunday? Has it been removed and if so how long? Plus both this year and last, the boats seem to drag the bottom the entire time on Daredevil Falls.. this has actually happened for a while.. they have updated the "logs" recently.. and a few years ago the entire falls itself was down and it took most of the season to repair it. (Ride was working, the waterfall just didn't have water on it) Speakers dont work very well on Daredevil Falls anymore either. They have repaired some of the "mountain" recently as it had a lot of holes in it. So they are trying but Dollywood just doesn't seem to be as good at "looks" maintenance of rides as a lot of parks are.. you can also tell it had a much lower budge than log rides at other larger parks.. maybe this is why it looks more run down? The mountain isn't built nearly as well as other mountains on rides. As for mystery mine, someone told me the fog/mist is gone due to it messing with sensors.. essentially the same reason Batman coasters at six flags have stopped using mist. But I haven't noticed Mystery Mine being very ran down personally.. Speakers on it don't work often either but they do fix the fire every few years.. last year it was working fine. Sounds like speakers at Dollywood is always an issue, half the time the blazing fury speakers don't work well either. Imo, a lot of Dollywood could really use a little TLC.. this past off season, they gave it a lot of TLC but it could use a lot more.. a lot of the buildings still look old and outdated.. not a "theme" outdated, really outdated.. country fair could still use a lot of work and fresh paint but does look a lot better this season. There are so many unused and empty buildings now that they should put to use! The old Lego place in Country Fair? The old furniture shop that only seems to be used for Christmas now? Other buildings and stores never used.. theaters are outdated.. the list goes on and on.. they are headed in the right direction, a lot of the park is just old.. Older than even Disney in Florida My biggest complaint about the looks of Dollywood are their junk piles.. if you look around, they have a lot of junk piles visible to the public. All you have to do is look and you will see tons of them Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
coasterbill
The only effect I've ever seen not working (aside from the fog which causes problems with sensors) is the screen on the lift hill, but honestly that's not really a big deal. On opening day this year, every other effect (including the fog) was working. As for the ride being run down, I don't get that vibe at all. I can't speak for Daredevil falls as Opening day of this year was my first ever ride on it, I enjoyed the ride quite a bit but I can't compare it to previous seasons. defrocker
This is one of those attractions where the more "run down" it looks (to a certain degree, of course) the more the theme comes out on it. It's an abandoned mine after all. I, personally, love that look which is why I'm interested to see the "theming" around Mystic Timbers. If you want bad run-down, go to Lakemont or Conneaut Lake. I'm honestly not sure the OP actually meant looks run down.. I feel he means elements not working which Dollywood does have issues with ride elements not working.. as for looks, I feel mystery mine looks great.. I haven't been on it this season so I'm not sure about elements working but last year most worked fine Same for Daredevil Falls. The cave portion of it last week didn't have sounds.. the bats weren't working.. it looked like just a wood tunnel.. of you have never been on the ride, I'm sure it just looks like a wood tunnel but.but it actually had cave themes... so elements not working there.. half the sawmill on it was also down and the speaker sounded blown.. this was on Sunday.
