Wow, this is a tough one for me. While FG was great during its original three seasons, it has lost its appeal to me somehow (almost seems like the writers put more time into American Dad). My vote goes for South Park who from season 4 on out has made comedic gold. I just think South Park is more biting and takes a bit more intellect to see its humor...for the most part.

I like both, Family Guy is witty and the last new episode was soooooo funny! (FCC censoring real life!) South Park is also funny, I agree with Bicoastal Kid, the approach to subject matter is brilliant! The Lord of the Rings episode just cracked me up!

From the new Family Guy. TV announcer: It's the D*** Van D*** Show!

South Park is funny, but Family Guy is the superior of the two if you ask me. The humor in FG is just so witty. There are so many one-liners in Family Guy that just make me die laughing. There is also a lot of small jabs that aren't always easy to catch or understand.

Family Guy is about the only show I will make sure we're around to watch. South Park I will watch if I happen to catch it, but I won't go out of my way to see new episodes.

While I still like South Park, it really seem to have lost something over the years. For example, the "Big Gay Al" episode was on tonight and if the episodes now were as awesome as that or the "Trapper Keeper" episode were, I'd vote South Park over Family Guy. But they aren't.

I wish Family Guy would get out of the overused "Remember the time when..." or "Oh this is worse then..." In the first seasons they made an attempt to tie the cuts/flashbacks into what was actually going on. Some of the episodes from the 4th season seem to be loose frames for 'how many cuts can we cram in this week'. That said there have been some absolutly hilarious episodes this season as well.

South Park is its best when they do the episodes of the boys just being boys. The 'Marjorine' episode was a great example of this. The boys believed that the girls had some magical mind control device (One of those paper fortune tellers all the kids made in 3rd grade) and sent Butters in as a girl to inflitrate the group and learn its secrets. "See if the Broncos will win on Sunday." I prefer episodes like these and Awsome-o, Woodland Critter Christmas, etc to the episodes dealing with "Oh this side is so screwed up and this side is too, but they both make a point LOL! <^^> I like some of these episodes alot (Up the Down Steroid) but I prefer the other style and I think thats what they are better at doing.

*Troll comment that should have been made long ago* The Simpsons seasons 2-7 still rails both shows.

"South Park" by a mile.

One, I *LOVE* how topical SP has become over the last few years, how they consistently do episodes about whatever is in the news, and I love their political- and social-commentaries; seriously, it's just the smartest show on TV today, right up there with "The Daily Show". Plus, they have a nice mix of comedic styles (both juvenile and intellectual), many high-concept plots, a great sense of continuity, and Trey is the master of the "catchy ditty". It just takes EVERYTHING, throws it in a blender, and puts a pretty bow on top. It does everything, and it does everything well.

"Family Guy" has some great absurdist humor, but that's pretty much ALL they have - absurdist humor, and 80's-based non-sequiturs. I love the way the dialogue flows like a casual conversation, and the aesthetics of the show are top-notch, but I find the writing tedious; oh, look, Peter is wearing a dress, Sonic the Hedgehog just ran by, cue joke that tries way too hard to be offensive. I own the first two volumes (three seasons) on DVD, and, IMO, the show pretty much died halfway through the third season.

If SP is George Carlin, FG is just the fart-jokes.

I voted for Family Guy. I try to watch it every week, especially the new episodes. I can't tell you the last time I saw a new episode of South Park, may have been about 3 seasons ago. It had some pretty funny moments and good stories related to current events, but with the way they did the new episodes, I'd be lucky if I saw 4 of them in a season, stupid Comedy Central. I think one season I saw the same episode 4 times, and it was the only one I saw!

While South Park has its hilarious epsiodes, like the Michael Jackson one, and "Preschool" with Trent Boyett, and where that guy tried to help Mrs. Claridge across the street, and then she caught fire and was attacked by dogs... yea those are great, but...

Family Guy is by far a better show, one of my favorites is the one where Quagmire has an affair with Loretta, it came on Adult Swim last night, it was hilarious, as I had forgotten about it.... "To the Petercopter!!"

P.S. ROCK LOBSTAH!!!
