Michigan's Adventure (MiA) Discussion Thread

I think with a little magic by Cedar Fair when Canada's Wonderland finishes it's mighty refurb, I think Michigan's Adventure could get some love. A new flat or two would be soooooo nice. Hang Time would fit nicely at the park. Even though this park is neglected, at least it's maintained nicely.

That's quite the oxymoron you got there. Neglected, but yet maintained. Just go back a few pages and you'll find out that this park is far from neglected.

Would not be suprised one bit if Cedar Point sent over their turnpike cars to replace be bop blvd in the near future. Especially since the park has been looking to switch over to gas powered cars instead of the current electric ones that are a maintenance nightmare. Also I found the fact thay dorney is removing hang time to be very intriguing. I know a certain spot where falling star used to sit that is in need of a new ride.

While the Turnpike cars would be a good move, their also fairly old with most of the cars dating back to when the ride first opened in 1959. Unless they go under a very heavy restoration, I don't see it happening. It's the same thing with Hang Time. It's one of the older HUSS Top Spins and they're very expensive on their maintenance costs and unless it goes under a heavy refurbishment, I don't see it being relocated.

Be-Bop really is not in that bad of a shape, it just needs a very good overhaul of the PLC system and the cars completely refurbished. It probably would be in much better shape if Morgan hadn't decided to shut down and give the park a bunch of trouble as it was being built.

This is probably the third time I've posted this, but a top spin on the lake there would be perfect. And I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if one were refurbished and relocated there.

But I'm just a little over-hopeful, probably.

All that did was wake Dorothy up, and I'm perfectly content with my dreams.

How was Hang Time maintained? If wasn't anything but great, I don't think it would work. As much as a ride like that would be great for the park.

From what I've been hearing, not very well, although it's not the park's fault, it's HUSS for creating a faulty ride. A lot of the Top Spins were hit or misses and this one was definitely a miss.

Uh oh, that's not a good rumor. I knew Trabant's days were rather numbered, but I didn't think it could be this soon. I believe this was one of the former Boblo Island rides, as was Falling Star, but this was one of the rides that was solid in terms of reliability, but ridership haven't been that great. Unless something structurally unsafe was found, then I can't imagine why they'd take it out.

If this does become true, I'll be rather disappointed since it didn't get replaced this year. Someone could shoot the park an email as I know that's how we got confirmation that Falling Star was being removed.

Do any of you actually ride and enjoy Trabants?

Yeah. MiAdv's isn't a great one. The only reason I consider it a loss is that it represents the second dry ride they've removed from the park w/o replacement. You have two empty ride pads now and another couple hundred people in line for something else on a busy Saturday or Sunday. At most places, that isn't an issue, but most places that have 7 coasters like Michigan's Adventure have attractions with significantly more throughput. Their ride selection was so pitiful to begin with that the Trabant was available on Fast Lane.

The thing is, at the rate Michigan's Adventure is going, they really shouldn't be removing any of their rides, even if it is just a Trabant. Since they've removed Falling Star and possibly Trabant without a direct replacement, I hope the park can at least get a replacement for one of them in 2016.

Just wondering, do you think it's possible that MiA could get a Planet Snoopy in the near future? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they're the only Cedar Fair park without a Planet/Camp Snoopy now that CGA is getting one.

I never knew that the trabant came from Boblo....interesting.

The info about the trabant was just a rumor I have heard from someone.....it's not confirmed.

Well, there was some debate on what was going on with Falling Star's spot. First, Lakeside Gliders was suppose to go there, then when they decided the Go-Kart track was going to be taken out, they moved it there. The beer garden was then also suppose to go there, but they decided to move it next to Lakeside Gliders to not leave that area so empty. From what I've heard, they even started prep work for the beer garden on Falling Star's spot, but obviously it's still a grassy field.

I didn't get to drive past the park this off season and I don't think I'll be able to now until the park gets close to opening for the year. (And I also have no idea what part of Timbers is going to be re-tracked this year, and still hoping they're having GCI do it again.) I do believe a Camp/Planet Snoopy is on the way in the next couple years, more than likely it'll be going in the current kiddie area near Zach's Zoomer, but as to what will take over the Falling Star's spot, it could be anything at this point. I'd just be rather disappointed if Trabant goes this year, just for the fact there was no replacement for it.

The website is not a very good source to go off of. It's not kept up-to-date as some of the other parks. Heck, it still listed Go-Karts on there until partially into the 2013 season.

The park's 60th anniversary next year still has some very strong leads as to what could be appearing, but all I've been hearing is that it's going to be a major addition. They pushed their 50th anniversary pretty strong when Grand Rapids was installed in 2006, even going as far as putting it into the ride spiels. I understand why parks like Kings Island and Kings Dominion didn't have very many major additions for their 40th anniversary, but look what they received in years before and after. I just thing as a marketing strategy, it works just to promote the anniversary years and what's happening with those, whereas small parks like Michigan's Adventure where they're not able to add major additions for long spans, it's easier to market an anniversary year and a new attraction.

I personally love the location of the Gliders and Beer Garden presently. I'm just glad the park finally has beer (last park in the chain).

I haven't been able to confirm if Trabant was taken out or not. I haven't ridden that ride in 15+ years but did used to enjoy it. I could see a new ride going in over in the Falling Star spot eventually, but Trabant is small enough to have a new food stand or store go in (with all those types of changes that have been happening at other CF parks, I'm guessing that'll eventually make its way here). Of course, the biggest focus the past few off-seasons have been the infrastructure and technology upgrades. Once those are set, I'm sure we'll see more attractions added. I'm not talking about the park literally having a major growth spurt, but additions that are good for the park. After all, we know it isn't neglected like so many seem to think.

I, too, have also thought that a Planet Snoopy would be a perfect fit for the Back 40. However, would they rename Zach's Zoomer? Afterall, Zach still works at the park in the summers and his mom is still Park President. I could see them keeping that name and it still being a Planet Snoopy (kind of like an additional ride within the kiddie area). Even so, if they were up for it, it could be renamed. Big Dipper could as well and all the present rides could be re-themed (kind of like what happened with Geauga's kiddie rides when they came over to CP for Planet Snoopy). Just re-theming and renaming rides and two coasters already there to anchor. A few more rides could be added and from there its just theming aspects. If Frog Hopper could find a new location over there, it'd be even better.

As for the future, I just keep thinking back to that quote of "We have some major capital on the way". I'm sure whatever it is will be one of the biggest investments for the park and I would bet it would be for the 2016 anniversary year. I could see a Chance Hyper GT-X or maybe one of their actual Hyper Coasters. Whatever it is, I'm excited. It could be a flat ride, or a ProSlide HydroMagnetic Slide.....I don't care. I'm intrigued and can't wait to try whatever it is out.

I could see MiA adding a Chance Hypercoaster in the near future as long as it isn't too expensive, since they're one of the few Cedar Fair parks without a hyper, although it should probably be more of a hyper-twister than an out-and-back hyper because they already have a large out-and-back style coaster (Shivering Timbers). A Hyper GT-X would work just as well though.

Yeah, the rumors were pointing that more franchise food options were coming this year, but so far, nothing has been announced. There were rumors that the Arcade was suppose to be coming down to make way for a new Chickie's & Pete's sit down restaurant. The park is looking for a new food and beverage area manager, so that could have something to do with that. Auntie Anne's pretzels was a pretty big hit for the park's first franchise food, so adding another unique food place like Chickie's & Pete's would help diversify their food selection.

The park does have a pretty good history with Chance, since most of their rides are from them and they do send major components for the rides to Chance every few years for refurbishment, so I'm really hoping there are talks to add a couple of their flats and a potential new coaster as well. All that this park would need is a pretty good steel coaster and it'll be well-rounded for other improvements to come in.
