TBpony414 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Sad to see this TR come to an end but it was a lot of fun to read! TRs are my favorite part of the forums because of the different pictures, details, funny captions, etc. Did you visit 3 pizza places on the tour or more and you just didn't take pics? How long is the pizza tour? And finally, what is the name of that cupcake place?
cfc Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 ^We visited three pizzerias, which used different types of ovens. I don't remember the name of the cupcake place, but it's a favorite of Elissa's and it was near Joe's.
SharkTums Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 The cupcake place is called Molly's and it's FANTASTIC. There's one location in NYC and one in Chicago. BTW Chuck, that wasn't just mozzarella Sarah was holding...it was BURRATA!!!! To me it is the king of the mozzarella's!!!!
robbalvey Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 This photo right here is where Scott was validating Sarah's existence. He told her it's "ok" to eat pizza without sauce and in fact, the origins of pizza started without sauce! (I believe that's what he told her) So she can go ahead and eat pizza without sauce and there isn't anything wrong with that!
cfc Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 (edited) BTW Chuck, that wasn't just mozzarella Sarah was holding...it was BURRATA!!!! To me it is the king of the mozzarella's!!!! After sampling it, I can understand why you accept it as your king. For some reason, I'm in the mood for pizza tonight. Can't imagine why. Edited November 15, 2014 by cfc
ernierocker Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Between this and Adam's Food and Wine post yesterday, I can't decide which one is the post of the year. And I am also mad about the lack of New York style pizza in my house right.
Nrthwnd Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Best. Sign. Ever. Hey, it says it right there!
nannerdw Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 ^ I'm all about trying gross-sounding food combinations, so I'm sure I would have enjoyed all the flavors. lol
sspaz1000 Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Great report! Now I'm hungry for pizza and want to go on a Scott's Pizza tour again.
Nrthwnd Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 ^ I'm all about trying gross-sounding food combinations, so I'm sure I would have enjoyed all the flavors. lol It actually occurred to me, the three they might be referring to, are Vanilla; Chocolate; and Strawberry.
cfc Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 I nominate Traditional (plain rice pudding--bleech!), Banana Coconut (not a fan of bananas in anything), and Peach Mango (because I don't like either of those fruits). It all depends on your perspective.
Vtafro Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Cant wait to go on mine(and Stacy's) third Scotts pizza tour. Really enjoy them. How did you enjoy Joe's, its my favorite new york slice pizza place.
cfc Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 I thought all three stops were good. My favorite overall was Lombardi's, but I liked Joe's, too.
coasterbill Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Rice to Riches is pretty good, we went there once after leaving Lombardi's (which I think is the best pizza in the city). It sounds like you guys had a great time. I'm really enjoying these updates.
gisco Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 How does Scott stay so skinny doing all those pizza tours?
cfc Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 ^Well, he does get around via bicycle--and he seems to be a bit hyper.
redfoot12 Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 ^Well, he does get around via bicycle--and he seems to be a bit hyper. Eh. One of those high metabolism people I abhor. So is the tour different everytime or does he keep to the same three pizzerias?

jynx242 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I really ate more pizza that I should have that day. It made it difficult to finish the Molly's Cupcake afterwards. Chuck, Lombardi's was my favorite as well (both times I've done the tour,) but that slice from Joe's was pretty spectacular.
cfc Posted November 21, 2014 Author Posted November 21, 2014 Lombardi's has it just about right. But I think, to be fair, I need to sample even more NYC pizza.
RCjunkie Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Thanks again Chuck for another fun and witty trip report. The "Ming the Merciless has hit rock bottom." line cracked me up and made me feel old at the same time. Maybe he has been hanging around Maurice The Space Cowboy too much.
boweryboy Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 How does Scott stay so skinny doing all those pizza tours? There's a fun article about him in this month's mental_floss that's worth reading. According to him he starts his day with a bowl of oatmeal and only allows himself 15 slices of pizza a week – which he tracks with an app. Next time I'm in NYC I'm definitely going to do one of his tours.
jynx242 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Lombardi's has it just about right. But I think, to be fair, I need to sample even more NYC pizza. You know, that definitely sounds like a plan to me
