^I don't see ANY U.S. park spending $33.5m on an old coaster. While Olympia Looping is definitely an impressive ride, it doesn't LOOK impressive, and I would assume US parks want to spend money on something far flashier than that for its price tag.

Maybe Knoebels or something like that would appreciate it. But again. $33.5m. Maybe it's cheaper if you don't need the trucks?

Oh wow, did not realize they want $33.5m for it. That's ridiculous for an aging, compact traveling coaster, even if it's iconic.

I mean, I bet Gerstlauer or Zierer could create an exact clone for far cheaper (probably in the $5 million range).

Huh!? That ride looks insane!

Maybe Knoebels or something like that would appreciate it.

Yes please!

But again. $33.5m.

I'm assuming that is the estimated cost of a newly manufactured Olympia Looping.

You guys are misunderstanding the quote. He is saying it would cost $25 million euro to buy the ride and all the support equipment if he were to be buying it new in 2014. He's not saying he's selling it for $25 million euro.

I wasn't clear, is this year's oktoberfest it's last planned appearance, or are there others planned for next year?

I have wanted to ride Olympia Looping and would like to make a plan to do it if there is still a chance.

is there a schedule anywhere?

It would be awesome to take it on a farewell tour before retirement in mexico...

Farewell tour?

That means it's definitely coming back

I don't work for the company or have any information, this is what i would like to see. (i would also like it to come toronto, and bring delicious german beer with it as well, and maybe Hofbrau barmaids in dirndls as ride ops. If you don't ask, you don't get!

I have à feeling the coaster will belong to the Barth family for a while, despite all that has been said. I personally can see them kind of renting the coaster to some parks for parts or whole seasons. Oscar Bruch did just that with thriller one year. Not sure but I think that was at gronalund. I have already seen theme parks adding temporary coasters on their parking lot. Plopsa land did that with a spinning mouse a couple of years ago too... Look at it that way. They could still make money renting it, without the hassle of dismantling every other week... But they would still own it for big venues like Oktoberfest or any other big event near the park they have lent it to... The big issue being transportation costs, this makes sense

I do hope they find a way to save this coaster, and keep it going for years to come.

With that said I don't feel that they should keep it going just because of the legacy, if they can't get the economy to work then it's probably time to let it go, but hopefully a solution will be found.

How much would the carnival company let it go for? Maybe if they somehow want it off their hands a la Big Dipper some group could get it for less than it is worth. Prince Desmond, anybody?

$33.5 million is way too much... hopefully that isn't true. The ride does look impressive, though. It's a spaghetti bowl of twisted track that goes through 5 vertical loops. The GP would eat that up. Maybe SFMM could get it... no, too long and expensive for Six Flags . Maybe somebody should buy it and debut it for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Cedar Point could put this in if they ever wanted a "boardwalk" on the beach, but I doubt it. It would be cool to see, though.

It would be sad to see this coaster go. I agree with Rob actually about storing it locally. It would be a shame to see German fairs only have KMG rides because of the increased cost of transportation. I can see why new rides of that scale would be expensive too as they have to be a very specific layout to look good from the midway, easy to transport, super high capacity (3000pph), easy to construct etc.

I hope it doesn't go to some random Russian park to rust away like Eurostar did

Was danach kommt, steht in den Sternen.

How long he will tour the fairs with the Olympia Looping, and if he will ever visit Düren again, is uncertain. "I could sell the ride tomorrow. There are plenty of offers from parks in the Far East." says the showman, who turns 75 years old in August. In the coming year, he wants to visit Düsseldorf's Rheinkirmes and the Volksfest in Herne-Crange, before the Oktoberfest. What comes next, is still written in the stars.

Does the bolded part above mean the Olympia Looping will be in Munich in 2015 or not? I don't speak German so I'm not sure how to interpret the translation. This could have a big influence on whether I go this year or next year. I'd prefer to go in 2015 so I have a lot more time to plan and prepare. Going this year (in a month and a half!) would almost be an emergency planning thing. I'm not sure I'll be able to go this year actually.

Normally, yes.

O god, I'm a European guy and I've never ridden it before, for shame! And I just missed Düren! Düsseldorf (or Herne) in 2015, check!

I translated a German coaster forum to English, and it seems like a lot of Germans can't imagine Oktoberfest without Olympia Looping.

Didn't Skyline Park mention they intended to purchase Olympia Looping or something along those lines a while ago?

That's Thriller they were supposed to welcome. But a TÜV investigation has brought them to the conclusion too much would have to be done on the ride for the German safety standards, so even that coasters future is unknown.
