Major League Baseball Thread

^ The problem is that would leave 15 teams in each league - someone would have to be off in each league every year. That might work in the NBA or NHL but not MLB or the NFL (who was stupid enough to do this before - some teams had byes in the first week)

The only change I would ever consider them doing is having the post-season games played during a reasonable time, so we actually have a chance to watch them.

I agree, if there isn't a west coast team in the game, screw em. Make it easier on those in the playing teams' markets to watch

btw I don't like the idea of rotating alignments. I mean its not like Atlanta is in the Western Division anymore, and I say this even as a fan of a team that is competitive every year yet spends very little

I'm all for it, something is needed like in Euro league soccer where teams get demoted n such. It must suck to be an AL team and know you're fighting for 2 spots once the Yankees and Red Sox take 2, of course it might not be needed if you had a salary cap.

+ Expanded replay, best umpires in the postseason after last years debacle.

^^ You're right about the 15 team issue. They could solve that by playing one interleague series at all times.

^ I think replay should be expanded to include safe/out calls and fair/foul calls. I would like to see replay used to make the games as fair as possible using modern technology.

They shouldn't even be playing the 12-15 interleague games they are already playing.

No way, judgment calls make sports more entertaining. How boring would baseball get if there was never an issue with an umpires call.

^^ Judgment calls make sports unfair when they are incorrect and there is no way to change them. Last years playoffs are a perfect example. I would rather have all the calls be as accurate as possible to keep sports fair.

I'd rather not wait around every time one team doesn't like a call, and take my lumps. Because more often then not, one call does not make or break a game. It feels like it sometimes, and I understand that, but it is simply not the case.

And I'm loving my Giants playing 4-0 right now!

^ I am an Angels fan too. That was a very sad day. I watched him pitch that game and turned on ESPN the next morning and found out he had been killed.

I was at that game. I had met him at A-Rancho Cucamonga (5 minutes from my house) when I went to the Quakes game and he had such a bright future, was really cool with the fans, and an all around fun person.

I saw the Jays home opener last night. It was amazing see the SkyDome completely sold out again, even though that won't happen again unless we get on some kind of amazing winning streak and make a run for the playoffs. It would have been great to see them win their first game at home, but they played a great game, and it was easily one of the best games I've had the privilege of seeing at the Dome.

I was outfield right behind centre field so my section was especially loud at heckling Rios all night.

So how about that Phillies breakdown last night in the 9th! Up 3-0 bottom of the 9th with 2 outs and Troy Glaus hits a 2-run homer then Jason Heyward skys one to tie it up! Then in extra innings Nate McLouth finishes it off, unreal ending and amazing for Atlanta

I go to about 10 Braves games every year and last night was the most miserable for 8 2/3 innings. Damn that finish was exciting. We have yet to get over the Heyward bomb and McLouth of all people ends the game on a walk off.

If the Atlanta Braves come to a ballpark near you, get yourselves to the game just to see Heyward. Those big moments in the game seem to find him and he is delivering every time. He is special folks. That's all i can really say about him. Those damn Yankees might already be backing up a Brinks truck in his driveway to sign him six years from now.

^^Lets see how special he is after advance scouts have seen him enough to put together full scouting reports on him...

Talented? Absolutely. Special? Maybe 10 years from now. But he's already struck out 22 times in only 56 AB's...so there's a LOOOOONG way to go before anyone should be calling him special. He made me $150 off two baseball cards, so I'll thank him for that. But he's hardly someone that should be called special this early on.

Besides, he will be forgotten as the next big thing as soon as Steven Strasburg gets called up in June. Hell, Ike Davis and Justin Smoak are already derailing his hype train...
