larrygator
I wonder if Six Flags told PARC Management that the sale included the giant lot of coaster parts across the street from the park. I can say with certainty that both PARC and Six Flags know who owns the coaster. I can also say with certainty that I don't know if ownership passed from SF to PARC during the sale of the park. My guess is that if the coaster remains were not sold, PARC would have told SF to get it off their property.
matteocrepaldi
Nice photos! It's really sad to see a ride sitting there like that. I guess that it would be cheaper and safer to buy a new one than trying to rebuild this one.
palmerleeberry
To me, it's always sad to see something that once was up and running in a park end up rotting in another park's boneyard. As for me, I do not like to ride stand ups, but it's still sad for those that do. Oh well, here's a thought that might cheer you up. The metal can be salvaged as scrap and I'm sure it'll find new life as a future roller coaster (or maybe as a new canival ride). What do you all think about that? And this is what other people think about my idea and the person who suggested it! Sheesh, everyone is a critic. You all didn't have to be so harsh! "Don't worry, I still love you. Why don't you stop typing and cry on me for a while?"
RoCo
Boy, these shots are pretty melancholy, if only as a reminder of the passing of time... Can't believe it's been five years (?!) since they closed up Astroworld. Just checked: savetehbatmantehescape.biz is available...
Joe Cool
That thing looks pretty bad. From the looks, I'd be pretty surprised if it rode again.
Philrad71
If this is the same one that originally debuted at SFGA, I can remember riding it in it's inaugural year and thinking it was pretty lame for the amount of time we waited to ride it. I actually enjoyed Skyrider and King Cobra much more for stand-up's. I would rather Darien Lake put something else in and not waste the money on a refurb...a nice mega-lite over the lake, a Zac-Spin, or a woodie would be much better options! We can only hope, right? SLUSHIE
Really doesn't look too bad to me. Obviously those track pieces would need a bit of refurbishing. A bit of sandblasting and new paint. Pieces like the chain guide and stuff is easily replaced. i don't see it being rebuilt though just because its pretty old. Any small park wouldn't be able to afford it and any big park would want something better.
milst1
Wow, thanks for the pictures, which bring back memories of my first coaster trip that involved getting on an airplane (family trips to FL not included). It must have been 1995 or 1996 when I flew down to Texas and visited SFoTx and SFAstroworld. Ironically, the coaster had been at my home park of Great Adventure, but after the Haunted Mansion fire of 1984, I stopped visiting amusement parks for a while and had not ridden it there. In the mid-90's my interest was rekindled and I made that trip. I remember that the queue was really really long and heavily themed. The park was empty but it took us 10 minutes of trudging through Gotham before we got to the loading station.
travanx
Aww the coaster that goes along with my favorite theme park commercial! I think this was my first big real rollercoaster while I was in Webelos back in the days of gang infested Magic Mountain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R000iWVmbgU

odene497
While the physical steel parts (track, supports) might be somewhat salvageable (some probably needing replacement), Almost the entire ride would need to be stripped and redone. Everything. Trains, motor components, really pretty much everything. And from what I'd heard when the ride was originally plopped there, much of the ride was either damaged or missing, and there were no plans to build it. And now it's 5 years later. The only thing being wasted by it sitting there is scrap metal, not a possible coaster.
KDCOASTERFAN
From what I understand part of the ride was damaged during the removal. I don't think it will ever run again. Wasn't that the same excuse made about UT? I don't see why SFI would send either of those two rides to new parks if they were damaged during disassembling....sure they could've damaged either ride during transport but if damage occured earlier than neither ride should've been shipped to either park. Any small park wouldn't be able to afford it and any big park would want something better. Please Elitches! It's at a sister park! I'll take an old Intamin standup a thousand times over that silly Volare! AGREED! Although the stand-up is way bigger than the flying death trap. Markieb
Thanks for the pics. So sad as it brings back great memories especially this time of year. I miss FrightFEST. It was pretty awesome at AW. To think I waited 3 hours to ride the year it opened!! It was a huge deal for us in Houston!

KDcoasterMAN
^ I think he was referring to the rumor or fact (that website posting confuses me) that Ultra Twister was scrapped. I assumed that Shockwave was waiting for the same fate... But since it has not been sold off to a scrapyard like the XLC, either PARC is waiting for a better price on steel or they actually may have plans to resurrect this coaster. (But I doubt it). If you had to ask me, I would say it's going to be scrapped in 2 to 5 years. But I'm no expert.

I'll take an old Intamin standup a thousand times over that silly Volare! I second this! Get some new B&M trains (even the old Intamin trains would probably be more comfortable than those Volare torture devices) and bring it to Elitch's. Think of the possibilities of marketing a "new" roller coaster, where the riders stand up for the entire ride, to the Denver GP. It would blow their minds and be a huge hit! davisal771
^ Yes... The people of Colorado are so coaster deprived this ride could be like god to them!
liftsifter
Kieran definitely had intent to resurrect all of the AW coasters, He could have easily shipped the trains to Great America for parts, because we have Iron Wolf. Zack44
Thanks for these awesome pictures! You know I wouldn't be surprised if some of the extra parts are sent to Great Adventure for backup pieces or something like that. It seems unlikely, but given the history this had with Great Adventure, I just think it would be fitting.
DCody
This is great; thank you for the pictures! Is it sad that I prefer threads like this to the ones about new coasters that may actually function?
palmerleeberry
From the MayTheGForceBeWithYou Post: DBru wrote:I'm much more upset over the fate of the (more unique) Ultra Twister. causing MayTheGforceBeWithYou to add: It's sitting at Six Flags America, and it's for sale online. Folks, this was why several years ago I decided to boycott all Six Flags Parks due to this outrage following the closure of Astroworld. The other Six Flags got decent rides, and all Six Flags America got was a scrap heap that used to be the Ultra Twister (a ride I did ride more than once). This ride, if constructed, could have been the perfect fit between the Joker's Jinx and the railroad tracks. But oh no, the management decided it would be too expensive to reconstruct. So as the parts lay out in the open and slowly decay into rust, I'm here on this site posting my say that can be compared with sour grapes. Now I called off the boycott this year due to Six Flags America debuting Thomas Town (not to mention the fact that I was planning on going to Six Flags Great Adventure and Six Flags Magic Mountion in that samw season), but now that the new family coaster planned for next season could be scrapped, I guess I will have to bring back the ban.
