vacoaster09 0
So if the world survives 12/21/12 its going to get beat to death in March by a smiling roller coaster?
DBru 7
^Sounds like a bold strategy by Alton. Let's see how this works out for them.
snoflake15 0
Interesting they say 'world beating' rather than 'world record'. Still liking what they're doing with this.

Ed Farmer 4
Which would actually work this time as this is going to be a thrilling ride. But rcdb has it listed as a Gerstlauer...?

JayTricky 0
Which would actually work this time as this is going to be a thrilling ride. But rcdb has it listed as a Gerstlauer...? You're hilarious. Gerst have made thrilling rides. Popular rides. This will be their best work yet.
AstroDan 0
Gerstlauer coasters are some of the most intense in the business! Saw, Speed, Rage, Novgorod - pack big punches! Even their Bobsleds pack a punch!

spinning man 0
The viral marketing begins. [youtube2] [/youtube2] Sorry to report, but that video is not related to Alton Towers and so the video is not official. Alton have said so on their Twitter account.
larrygator 7
The second half of this comment by Alton Towers makes me think Alton endorses and is responsible for the video: "Hello! It is an interesting video made by a fan... looks pretty Cool though don't you think?" Edited December 23, 2012 by larrygator
Wes 0
^ The other two tweets go against that.

jammy2by4 0
Just got this through from Towers Street via Facebook via the main site: After weeks of speculation from the enthusiast community over whether or not SW7 will open on time, it looks as though the official ‘countdown’ on the Alton Towers SW7 mini-site has been removed, and replaced with very little new content other than the construction image from the email sent out several weeks ago. Although this does not confirm a delay, it may suggest an upcoming change in expected opening date for the project, as there is no longer any reference to the 16th March in relation to the coaster. Photos taken by TowersStreet contributors on Thursday 3rd January from the surrounding fields show that vertical construction of track has not progressed much further than when the official “It’s Coming” email was sent by Alton Towers on 20th December. Station steel is being erected, and work appears to be progressing at the top of the site closest to the entrance to X-Sector, but there is still a good deal of track remaining in the car parks awaiting transportation. If the ride does not open as planned, it will be the first new attraction at the Resort to open after the season has started since Rita, which opened 3 weeks into the 2005 season. What form of compensation will be offered to guests who have booked park tickets or hotel stays is currently unknown. Keep up with discussion about SW7 construction on TowersStreet Talk, or our dedicated SW7 Minisite and stick with TowersStreet news for the latest updates on when the ride will finally #geterected, as they come! And they're not wrong about the mini site: http://www.altontowers.com/2013/ Although, I am kind of sceptical. Yes, there could be some alterations or problems during the construction, most likely the British weather, but the mini site could just have had a face lift coincidently. Bane 0
This is certainly not good news for Alton Towers if it turns out to be true, the biggest fear that comes with something like this, is that it becomes a rush job and doesn't live up to its potential, and it's been getting a lot of hype as usual from the Alton Towers fanbases.
AstroDan 0
It has not, however, been getting much hype from Alton Towers. The marketing has been very quiet. It hasn't yet reached the public general domain in the UK, so very few people will be affected anyway. I don't see this as a big deal, the rainfall in November and December was horrendous in the Midlands and flooding will not have helped their schedule. I am sure AT will offer to change ticket dates and hotel bookings should this be confirmed. The fact it appears delayed actually smacks in the face of it becoming a rush job. I think they have learnt from the fiasco of Sub Terra last March and will actually make sure this ride is ready.
mousch 0
I think they have learnt from the fiasco of Sub Terra last March and will actually make sure this ride is ready. I do hope this is true and we get a fully working experience after the sub terra shambles and non working Thirteen effects! So i really don't mind a delay as long as everything works and is the proper full experience.
JayTricky 0
From Ride Rater: Alton Towers is maintaining that its new rollercoaster will be open for the start of the park’s main season on 16 March. Confusion arose earlier today when a countdown to the ride’s opening was removed from its promotional page on the theme park’s website. However, park staff are still currently advising guests that the ride “will be open” on the first day of the 2013 season, which this year has been set at 16 March. Rumours of construction delays have dogged the project since late last year, but it is understood that contractors are still confident of achieving the ride’s handover in time. The later than usual commencement of a marketing programme has also fuelled suspicion of delays with the rollercoaster, which will be a new variant of the Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter.
