Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

P. 512: Holiday World acquires Santa's Cottages resort

^Yeah, scratch that. I also just read more about how Koch wanted the Thanksgiving section to be massive. He wanted it to be the centerpiece of the park. This is just boredom taking over from having a few days off and being all caught up on my yard work and house work...

I was present when Will said that - to clarify, he said eventually Thanksgiving will be the center of the park, meaning there's lots more land available for expansion.

No hints here, just wanted to set the record straight.

Honestly and I'm being serious I want a Valentines section! Not a lot of parks could pull it off but they could totally have a classic tunnel of love and it would be awesome! Also it there were room a launched coaster in their 4th of July section. Not to mention (and we all want this) a haunted house in Halloween! (I know Raven Maven will make this all happen for me! She is awesome! )

Personally thinking this is gonna be a B&M hyper. They said it'd be the "largest" expansion that they've ever done, meaning either a lot of smaller rides, or something massive like a hyper or giga... and it probably won't be from intamin, seeing as they just removed PP.

Just my thoughts

A haunted house would be awesome. HW unofficially does have a tunnel of love, the dark long tunnel of Frightful Falls. If not a haunted house, at least some haooween theming in the tunnel to add a little bit of excitement.

Valentine's Day could work. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't the longstanding rumor been that St Patrick's Day may be the next themed section? The beer gardens alone... *drool*.

Looking back at the size of The Legend parking lot, I think Holiday World has some pretty big plans in store for their future.

If by this you mean it's such a big lot they must be preparing for lots of visitors, on the busiest days of the season, the Legend lot and Raven lot have been almost 100% full.

Maybe Girraffica was "Traded In" like a Used Car.

I have been on a day where both lots were close to full (Raven obviously fills up quicker than Legend). It was last year's Rock the World fest. Suprisingly, lines were not too terrible (only 1 hr waits on Wildebeest and 1.5 wait on Mammoth). Still, you should never visit the water park on Saturdays in July or August.

^ I would also imagine that they're going to be expanding the parking lot again. You would have to figure with this being the biggest expansion by far in park history, they're expecting this to jump park attendance. HW as been at over a million guest per season since 2006 when the Thanksgiving section was added. Idk anything about their numbers other than what I just mentioned, but logic tells me that sustained growth and success will only continue as long as attendance figures rise. With that in mind, that time seems right for them to shoot for the 1.5 million mark and try and sustain that for a number years before their next big expansion, which might probably be intended to push them over 2 million in attendance. HW has been smart in slowly expanding the park and waiting for the right time for major projects. If you have too many big projects at once, you're setting yourself up for failure.

If Thanksgiving is meant to eventually meant to be the center of the park: how would one expand back towards the highway near the Voyage? That's kind of close. Would they have to tunnel under the road, or build a bridge over? Or is it even possible? I'm pretty certain it is a state road. Is there any legality concerns there?

There would be plenty of paperwork, sure. But considering that Holiday World is probably the biggest attraction in Indiana (or, at the least, that county or district), I would have to imagine that INDOT would be willing to make it work.

About how long would you say the lines for the park coasters were on a day like that?

^ In the morning (9:30-11ish), about 15-30 min for all three. I'd say maybe cracking 45 midday. The coasters never draw the lines that Splashin Safari does. The water park is the GP's draw to Holiday World, which is why the first two Saturdays in May are the least busiest through the whole season.
