Apple has lost it's innovative lead, sell your stock now!

Hardly. Did you miss the part where Tim Cook mentioned that Apple devices currently account for 91% of tablet traffic? And tablets are growing a lot faster these days than smart phones.

It is valid to question whether Apple can continue to produce the next iProduct when it's time to not just do incremental upgrades to their existing products. But so far Apple is doing quite well in a post-Jobs era.

I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. I just got my 4S last October, was my first smart phone. I'm pretty happy with what my 4S can do.

What I do wonder...since the screen has changed aspect ratios, will apps become iPhone 5 specific? Also, sure this may be thin but I'd be afraid of something that thin getting smashed in my pocket or slipping out while on a ride...I worry enough with my current phone actually! I may have to put my otterbox case back on to beef it up a bit so that I can ride without worry.

It hasn't even been a year since Jobs died (almost but not quite). The iPhone 5 and some other products that are in the pipeline are things that surely would have already been in development. Yeah He is not around any more, but Apple is hardly in a 'post Jobs era' yet.

Sure Apple can continue to make high end user friendly products, but innovation it what got them to where they are. They completely revolutionized the music industry and the phone industry, then was one of the first into the whole tablet thing. I'm not saying they aren't ever going to come out with anything innovative ever again, but it seems like the iPhone 5, and some of the rumored products coming in the near future (iPad mini) are just to make sure that they aren't stuck without something that other provide.

Sure they can continue to cash in on the train they started, but this business is all about staying ahead of the curve and at this specific moment it just seems like they are playing catch up.

I really hope Apple gets back on the cutting edge. Because I love the quality of their products, especially OSX. Easily the best operating system out there. They just need to take risks again. Make that product that I didn't even know I wanted.

Also, if they could stop the everybody (including schools and grocery stores) for copyright and patent infringement that would be cool.

He's dead. In my book that certainly qualifies as "post-Jobs era," no matter how you slice it.

I'm happy about the 5. That just means I'll be able to buy a 4S cheaper, and do pretty much the same things with it as the 5. Now, if I could just speed up time and get out of my AT&T prison sentence.

I had the Iphone 3g then got the Iphone 4s, so I guess by my normal pattern of upgrades I'll be waiting another year or so for Iphone 5.2 or whatever they end up calling it. The more I looked at some of the info last night the more I really want one, looks amazing.

I assume that the new ear pods will work with older devices, but those looks pretty cool. I was reading on Apple's website about how much research they did to design those things to fit in different types of ear. I can never keep any type of head phone bud in my ears while jogging (or is it yogging? the j is silent I think) so I'll put these to the test and disprove all that precious research they did.

On a completely unrelated note, what does everyone do with their old phones after an upgrade? Keep it for games, music, anyone re-purpose old phones for anything cool?

^We gave Candace's old phones to the kids, so I guess they will each have one to play games on now.

I know what you mean. Candace and I have never had our contracts synched up (always a year apart) since we keep buying new phones as soon as our contract ends.

I think this entire Android vs. iPhone battle is something the boils down to the individual user. Personally I'm a bit of a self admitted Android fanboy. That being said however I recognize how much the iPhone has changed the industry. I'm not about to run out to buy an iPhone 5 (I love my Samsung S3) because it doesn't fit my needs. I like the bigger screen and the power to customize.

Also as much as I like Android and what they're doing, I will be the first to tell you Apple is still light years ahead in the tablet market. I was the sad owner of three Asus Transformer Primes and had nothing but dissapointment from them. Since then I have purchased an iPad 3 and love the thing. Basically it is a to each his own situation.

Why does the cellphone need to be re-invented right now anyways? When the iPhone first launched, it was at a time where the smartphone desperately needed to be re-thought with clunky blackberries and windows phones on top of the market.

Right now, there is absolutely no reason to re-think what is a very successful generation of smart phone technology that started with the original iPhone.

I really hope google comes out with a maps app for IOS6. Apples maps app is a huge step back from what they currently have on iPhones. No street view and transit/walking info is a big fail in my book.

But since it took over 3 months for the A5 chip and IOS 5 to be jailbroken, looks like I will be sticking with my 4S and IOS 5.1.1 for a while. Hopefully by the time a jailbreak is ready, google will have released its own maps app or someone will have figured out how to bring the old app to the new IOS.

iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Top Two Million in First 24 Hours

CUPERTINO, California—September 17, 2012—Apple® today announced pre-orders of its iPhone® 5 topped two million in just 24 hours, more than double the previous record of one million held by iPhone 4S. Demand for iPhone 5 exceeds the initial supply and while the majority of pre-orders will be delivered to customers on September 21, many are scheduled to be delivered in October. iPhone 5 is the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, completely redesigned to feature a stunning new 4-inch Retina™ display; an Apple-designed A6 chip for blazing fast performance; and ultrafast wireless technology*—all while delivering even better battery life.**

“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”

iPhone 5 comes with iOS 6, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system with over 200 new user features including: an all new Maps app with Apple-designed cartography, turn-by-turn navigation and an amazing new Flyover™ view; Facebook integration for Contacts and Calendar, with the ability to post directly from Notification Center; Passbook®, the simplest way to get all your passes in one place; new Siri® features, including support for more languages, easy access to sports scores, restaurant recommendations and movie listings;*** Siri and Facebook-enabled apps like Photos, Safari® and Maps; and Shared Photo Streams via iCloud®.

2 million in 24 hours...obviously this is a boring iPhone update that no one will buy!

LOVE the new Nano. Looks more like the last generation Nano that had the wheel. I don't like the current generation even though I have one for running. This one looks much better and I will be upgrading soon.

My only question on the new Nano is the Nike+ thing. With the shoe sensor on the previous generation Nano you could put the iPod in your pocket and get a very accurate result. With the current generation you have to clip it on your pocket like a pedometer and I've gotten mixed results.

This new one doesn't seem to have a clip but it also claims to be like a pedometer and not need a shoe sensor. Hope they release some more info on this aspect.

^^ I'm curious of the same thing. I am downloading it for my iPhone right now.

I am going to upgrade for sure. I actually am a specialist at the Apple Store in Bakersfield, CA. September 21st is our grand opening as well as launch day! It should be a pretty busy day for us. I am not allowed to buy the phone until after my shift and I have to wait in line like everyone else, but I sure hope we get enough in. The new screen technology is pretty cool, I like that it is 18% thinner than the 4s, the A6 chip makes it double the speed of the 4S, and it is compatible with LTE. I am kinda happy the phone comes with the new ear pods as well. From the reviews, they are better than a pair of bose headphones.

I always wait a day or two to download major iOS versions, just to make sure everything is OK. I do look forward to checking out the new Map stuff, and I'm very excited about Passbook, especially if it will eventually allow me to ditch all these random "reward program" things I have to carry. I'd love for all of those to be on my phone.
