Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the advice. I also just realized that we could also do Dorney Park. Both are equidistant from where the wedding is (and also on the way back by 81), and it seems like a much more manageable park with a chance to not be as crowded (I've heard Dorney never really gets to bad. Not to mention it's cheaper. I suppose I should ask in that thread, but does that sound like a good idea?

I will be at Dorney on Sunday. The lines should be much more manageable than GreatAdv, but keep in mind Sunday is Coasting For Kids, so from 10-12 I believe we'll be taking over one full train on Steel Force, then we have Talon from 1:30-3:30, and then Hydra (ugh) from 4-6. If you see me say hi, I'll probably have the C4Ks t-shirt on.

Dorney doesn't have El Toro

Also this.

By the 18th, schools are usually out unfortunately. If you want to beat the crowds I suggest going early or even at opening.

Depends on the school district in New Jersey, some public school go into the next week, some have half days through June 19th. New York City public schools are still in session

Hey everyone! I'll be flying in from Texas to visit for the first time on June 18th, a Thursday. I was wondering what to expect with crowds? I'll be in a party of 4, I'm the coaster enthusiast by far of the bunch...Thanks for any advice/tips!

By the 18th, schools are usually out unfortunately. If you want to beat the crowds I suggest going early or even at opening. The lines are usually short until an hour or more after opening. Since it is a weekday, it probably wont be packed but because it's summer vacations crowds may be moderate. If it it packed, you should consider the flashpass otherwise you'll only get a few rides in. The worst crowds are usually around 1PM to 4PM from my experience. A word of advice, never, ever start at the front by Superman or Green Lantern because they are close to the entrance so most will head over there.

Thank you for the tips! We'll be there right at opening for sure! I

I just got back from another day at Great Adventure. I'm not sure how the lines were last weekend, but when I went on May 25th they weren't bad at all. However, the lines were awful today. El Toro's line was past the hour mark most of the day. Today was the first day this season that I used The Flash Pass. I couldn't afford Gold this time around so I got Regular.

Could the Ronald McDonald charity event this morning have had something to do with the insane lines?

^I was also there, and I agree about the lines being bad. I've definitely seen worse, but the lines were still pretty long. El Toro was an hour or more wait, and for the first time I've seen in a while they had to use the entire queue. Nitro actually had a wait (OMG!) as well, about 45 minutes, even though they were sending out trains relatively quickly. The line was filled all the way to the first switchback. Zumanjaro's line was really long, including the Single Rider queue. It took nearly 2 hours to get to the front of the line. Kingda Ka had an enormous 2 hour+ line which actually went right up to the entrance so we didn't bother until the end. Near closing time, people were leaving the line left and right and they were incredibly efficient with the trains so that huge line only took about 30-45 minutes. We actually ended up getting the last train of the day! (Can you say final ride!! ) After the ride everyone was screaming "one more time!" over and over again, and I thought they were actually about to dispatch us, but they were just sending the train out in front of us. All in all, the crowds didn't ruin the day too much. [sorry about the TL:DR-ness of this post]

^ Likely. But don't count out all those fabulously magical magicians they had on site.

Also, it was gorgeous today. And BAFF.

What are the remaining BAFF days at SFGAdv. Since I pass from SFNE, I can not access the SFGAdv season pass benefits

^If you include the discount days, there's a ton of them.

Lines were about what I expected yesterday. I was getting on Toro consistently in 35 minutes all afternoon. The trick for quicker laps on busy days as I'm sure we all know is to just head through the masses quickly/directly, but respectfully, to the ~second-to-last row which is rarely busy. One lap I "settled" for a less full middle row. This bull maxes out your airtime so hard that it barely feels less intense. So incredible.

Nitro wait also clocked in just under 40 for us as we got waved through by some kindly GP to fill in two seats in a middle/back row. GP was also getting riled up about line cutting so they actually put a security guard on the line. He overlooked from the stairs landing and confronted/removed at least one cutter. And yes, crew was flying at Nitro today. I've almost always seen terrible ops here, this was a nice surprise.

Batman was our long wait at almost an hour.

Batman is a strange case, it's very common to see it have a station wait when Toro and Nitro have 30-60 minute lines and just as common to see it with a huge line filling the queue outside the "storm drain". There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it at all.

Agreed. Bizarro can be quite unpredictable too. Typically dead, but if a crowd makes it's way over, lines build up quick thanks to the - ahhhh - casual ops. Yesterday three trains were on but one was being sent empty while we were waiting, and the line was quickly getting to be totally nuts behind us.

Sometimes, I wonder if that is because the ops can not see the line... on Nitro, you can clearly see how the line is doing and bust your butt to get people through, or relax a little if the line is shorter... there is no way to see the line on Batman from the station.

I got an e-mail from Six Flags today asking if I liked the idea of their new attraction for Great Adventure. While they said that there are looking at other concepts, they showed me one that has been rumored by a lot of people. Though they told me I can't share what ride they specifically are planning, I can say that it is what we've been predicting to come.

No, you misheard the announcement. It'll be THEMED to Jersey Boys.

Pretty much what I've been expecting all along. I do hope they reconsider due to capacity and REALLY wanting an RMC by the lake, but it would still be an awesome addition regardless. I am curious what effects they are referring to as well. Fog and strobe lights would be really awesome and disorientating at night time on the lake.

From Screamscape:

2016 - Hyperdrive / New Roller Coaster - Rumor - (6/9/15)

An interesting survey was sent out to some fans of Six Flags Great Adventure in the past 24 hours, asking their opinions on adding an S&S 4D Free Fly Coaster to the park, just like the new Batman coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The survey named the coaster Hyperdrive, and claimed it would "thrusts you into a totally immersive, high-speed adventure", "loaded with special effects and cutting edge construction."

The response to this ride at Fiesta Texas has been huge, with the guests loving it. My only concern about adding Hyperdrive to Six Flags Great Adventure would be the lower capacity that comes with this ride at a park with normally such high attendance numbers.

Could we be looking at a 4D Free Spin by the lake and a Justice League by Movie Town with a rebuild to that area of the park? Use of the Chiller building would be pretty cool for this attraction, even if it is gutted on the inside...

Not likely. Building is way too small for this type of attraction. If we were to get a Justice League dark ride clone in the park, the only logical location is in the old Right Stuff theater. That's exactly what SFOT did.
