Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

I'll be there Sunday. Was already planning on it before this hullabaloo came up. I much preferred TTD over Kingda Ka but with that gone, the prospect that we may not have any hydraulic launched stratas left after Sunday is pretty sad.

This whole situation is just so bizarre though.

You're forgetting Xcelerator & Storm Runner. I prefer them both over Ka.

Rode Ka 5 times tonight (including the 5th to last train or so...didn't want to be a part of the fight for the last train) and also rode Lantern once. Didn't feel like riding anything else, the rest will still be there tomorrow.

Cool atmosphere. Queue was full most of the night and Flashpass was upwards of 30 minutes. People were pretty pumped up, some were quite sad. This ride is a big part of the Great Adventure fabric. Waited for the front once, just under an hour as the line was partially down the ramp.

Storm Runner (and I'm sure Xcelerator) have fun and punchy launches. Nothing will ever replicate the hydraulic launch to 128 mph. Sad to think that era of coasters may officially be over.

Who knows, maybe when opening day comes in March it will be open and they'll just be like..."oh, you thought it was gonna close? Weird."

Long live the King.

We still have a working drop ride on the Kingda Ka coaster tower, so that may be staying.  We could also be waiting on what happens with TTD2 at Cedar Point with Zamperla.  Xcelerator at Knott's made it 19 years before a several millon dollar rebuild/replacement of the launch motor and the rest of the launch machinery, and TTD only made it 18 years before they decided not to.  I don't know what the fututre holds but it will likely either re-open for one season or sit for one season while they figure it out.

I'm wondering if Green Lantern gets scrapped or if it gets relocated. I rode it Sunday and honestly it still runs fine. The people who say it hurts and it sucks blow it way out of proportion. Sure stand-ups are kind of uncomfortable by design but Lantern really wasn't that rough and it had a fantastic and intense layout.

If it gets scrapped it would be the 2nd B&M to ever be scrapped yet Firebird is still allowed to live on and is total trash (and by all accounts, so is Vortex). I think this would be a great ride to put in a park like Valleyfair or Michigans Adventure where it actually has a chance to shine instead of being overshadowed like it was at Great Adventure.

Six Flags said today (according to NJ.com) that further details will be announced later this week.  I'm banking on S&S redoing the launch system and either a new coaster in GL's spot or them expanding the painfully short Ka layout.

GL is nearly 30 years old and already has been relocated once. While it would be a short-term boon for most parks, I question its long-term prospects without extensive refurbishment/retracking.

This is just another thing people never fully appreciated until they found out it was possibly going to be gone.

I don't feel like I complain much at all about rides being miserable but this ride always banged my head around and was super uncomfortable for my legs any time I actually went on it. I'd have avoided it completely if I didn't take family and friends to the park who wanted to try it.

Let's go ahead and actually link the press release info for reference:

We'll just have to wait and see. RIP Sky Ride, though. Was inevitable, but bummed to see it go nonetheless.

the wording is interesting. . .I'm wondering/guessing that the Kingda Ka tower will remain, and become part of the multi launch new coaster.. . thereby keeping the Zumanjaro Drop Ride intact - as that's not mentioned anywhere as leaving, correct?

Not so sure now...ElToroRyan got a clarification email from someone at the park saying Kingda Ka and Zumanjaro will also be removed. But like...why not say that in the initial press release? They clearly marked Lantern, Twister, Parachutes, and Skyway as "removed" and Kingda Ka as "retired" and didn't mention Zumanjaro at all.

The communication from this park about...well...everything is atrocious. But if what they said to Ryan is true then that's 6 ride removals in 1 year which is...not optimal. I don't care what you are replacing them with, 6 removals including the tallest coaster and tallest drop ride in the world is too much. And considering they were actively telling people last week that Kingda Ka isn't getting removed, it's just awful communication.

Green Lantern says "retired" too so who knows.

I just don't think it's a big deal but I didn't like or care about most of these rides anyway so I'm fine with it. Green lantern has always been awful, parachutes line took forever even with only a few people on the line. Twister is whatever. The skyride when it was actually open would take longer to get on half the time then just walking across the park.

It's not like the park is just removing stuff and never replacing anything. Ka will be back in some variation in 2026, new flash ride will be open next year. The park could have just gotten rid of all it and never replaced anything and still got decent crowds so at least they are still putting some money back into the park.

I think Bert's take is the most likely - a reworking of the ride that keeps some of the original coaster intact. I think that Green Lantern also being referred to as "retired" is most likely just poor wording on the part of PR.

There's a post in the Facebook groups of someone getting a response from someone at the park that Zumanjaro is being removed too and it's all being removed so guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Personally second-hand responses like that don't hold much weight with me - much more likely that if they DID get a response from someone, that person was also misinformed. All of this is definitely just wait and see, though, agreed.

Just surreal how much of this was suddenly taken away. There's 4 defunct rides in this photo taken 12 months ago from another defunct ride (plus Twister not visible).

I know we should be looking to the future but whatever they're building better be mind blowing. As it stands right now, today is a top 5 bad day at a park that has had a LOT of bad days.

The park slapped everyone in the face for their 50th anniversary and Cedar Fair finished off the season by kicking everyone in the balls to go along with it.
