EastCoastKid Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Most likely coaster for GAdv, I feel, is a S&S 4D Free Spin like the one being built at SFFT. I don't know why, but I have a gut feeling about an S&S 4D Free Spin, too. Maybe because it's pretty much unique from all other coasters at the park? And since Six Flags likes to market records, maybe they would make it bigger and market it as the "tallest/fastest/biggest of its kind." Anyway, with a park that already has an Intamin pre-fab, an inverted, a floorless, a stand-up, a flying, a launched, and a hyper coaster, it'll be interesting to see what Six Flags chooses for 2016.
Genx24 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 ^ I read a rumour both here and on Great Adventure History that the park was slated to get the S&S 4D for this season. Supposedly, after Zumanjaro's many delays which caused it to go over budget, the park had to scrap the coaster and got a super loop instead. No idea if it's true, but the existence of this rumour makes me think GAdv is next up for the 4D. I just hope if we do get one, it's a custom layout and not an exact clone of the one at SFFT. But I still think GAdv is getting Justice League: Battle for Metropolis next year.

Zack44 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Here's my trip report for opening day: Bad news: There was on and off rain and many of the rides were down at various points of the day. Good News: The rain scared most of the crowds away and I was able to get on pretty much everything I wanted to. The longest wait of the day for me was actually getting my season pass processed at the beginning of the day because the computers were malfunctioning. After that debacle, I was able to score two consecutive rides on both Superman and Green Lantern. The main problem at the start of the day was that many of the coasters, such as Kingda Ka, El Toro, and Superman, started off with only one train, but those that had two trains were all practically walk ons. After a brief ride on the Parachutes, my mother and I had lunch outside the park and caught a glimpse of the pieces for El Diablo. It's located in the parking lot of the Exploration Station and can be seen more clearly from the Zumanjaro line. It looks like they'll be re-using Rolling Thunder's old queue for the new ride. When we got back in the park, I was able to get four consecutive rides on Bizarro, running with two trains and no lines (aside from the front), plus another ride later in the day with my mother. She spent most of the rest of the day napping in the car while I scored a ride on KIngda Ka, which would've been two but I was interrupted with the worst period of rain of the entire day. Since the rain didn't let up for a while, I took the Skyway over to Skull Mountain (twice), Nitro (three times), and the Dark Knight. TDK was clearly not ready at all for opening day: the pre-show lighting went off early and a portion of the ride was actually lit up from the roof. After that, I reunited with my mother and we rode SkyScreamer, Deja Vu, and Zumanjaro twice in a row (my first times, actually). My mother was totally finished after that, but I was in the mood for El Toro since they added a second train and was able to get three consecutive rides. I contemplated going on Batman but ultimately decided to wait until it goes backwards and finished the day with Blackbeard and Swashbuckler instead. Overall Rating: 5.5 out of 6 Flags. The weather overall was pretty bad with on and off rain, but I was still able to get on everything I wanted to, even multiple times on some occasions. I'll post my pictures soon...
boldikus Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Jersey Boys banner GONE! YES! ^^^ Thanks for the pics and reports guys. I absolutely could not get up there this weekend and now I'm glad I didn't! Between the bad ops on Friday and high winds on Saturday (it was windy as hell here in Philly too!) sounds like this weekend was a serious rough start as far as operations go. It is so nice to have this board to live vicariously through all of you lol. I disagree, if they redesign the entrance of the park, and create it as the entrance structure (gatekeeper style) and the train is traveling high enough up that no one can throw something at it, and then do a tunnel to return, it could work... GAdv has a very high water table which is why there are no tunnels on any existing coasters at the park. A dive coaster is likely out of the question because of this. The whole 'over the entrance plaza' is very Cedar Fair right now with F325 & GK, I don't know why but I just don't see GAdv doing this. Also agreed with whoever said no more B&Ms. We all know the chain is unlikely to spend money on these. I think because we have so many B&Ms it leads people to speculate we'll get another one, but I think a Premier launcher (ala YOLO), a custom RMC (ala Goliath) or the S&S free spin are all much more likely candidates for our next coaster. The last custom B&M we got was Nitro, 14 years ago. I'll eat my words if we do, but imo, we're not getting a B&M in 2016.
Genx24 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 ^ I personally don't think GAdv is even getting a coaster next year, but I agree: no more B&Ms.
B&MIntaminGCI Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 What if by a 1% chance we got a New School B&M with Old School B&M forces... I know, I know, wishful thinking that won't happen, but I would welcome it with open arms.
Brassinthegrass Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 My early speculation leads me into different directions. What is that they need a medium sized wooden roller coaster to bridge the gap between their world renowned intense roller coasters, and their families/kid coasters. The other in my spectrum things that they need something that is unique and one-of-a-kind, all of their rides right now are rather traditional, and th park lacks a one of a kind ride that really stands out as something special...

Genx24 Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) I would love if GAdv added a new woodie (preferably a racer) to replace RT, but I don't see it. When is the last time the chain as a whole built a non-RMC woodie? I think it's Apocalypse, but someone please correct me if I'm mistaken. Edited April 6, 2015 by Genx24
Brassinthegrass Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Nope, I believe apocalypse was the last Non-RMC woodie... What would be great is to see them building a smaller wooden coaster (a little bigger than wooden worrior) and a large unique ride, both in the enchanted forest section, and really bring it back to life!
Superbatboy Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Gradv needs Premier in their lives again, RMC would be nice but it doesn't seem like a top priority for a park with El Toro in it

I've been saying this forever. They need a family coaster that kids and adults can both enjoy. I think a GCI in the Old Country would work beautifully. That being said in my dream world I would have a Premier remake of the Chiller
YoshiFan Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I just got back from the park, there were a lot more people there today compared to Easter last year. There were some breakdowns. Green Lantern broke down twice the 2nd time it got stuck on the lift and riders had to be walked down the stairs. El Toro was testing with water dummies around 11:30 and when I got back to the ride later in the day the line was to the 60 minute sign and hearing how long dispatches took on Friday, I skipped it today. Zumanjaro broke down when I was at the loading area but reopened around 15 minutes later. Nitro was running 2 trains but there seemed to be problems with the restraints with dispatches taking much longer than normal and restraints having to be rechecked. From the 60 minute sign it took almost 45 minutes when with normal dispatches it would be around 25 minutes with 2 trains.

VF15 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 ^ GCI is still in business. You sure you're not confusing yourself with CCI?
3Mutts Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Hi guys just wondering, we are camping and going to the park till Wednesday or Thursday and depending on what SFGAdv rain policy is will decide what day we are leaving. So I just want to know what rides will they close in the rain (other than the obvious like Kingda Ka) and if they are the rain Nazis like Cedar Point.

Maybe Zumanjaro but besides that and Ka they don't care... the park proved again on Saturday that they don't care about weather when they managed to valley one coaster and stall another one trying to get it to open in 50 mph wind gusts. Great Adventure has the best weather policy of basically any park in the U.S.

Like coasterbill said, everything besides KK and ZDOD will (presumably) be open. I love going to GAdv in the rain because the park is usually empty due to people assuming rain = ride closures.
coasterbill Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 When they're valleying and stalling trains I wouldn't exactly call that the best weather policy. I could see your argument but they had a lot of people in the park and they tried their best to get some of their best rides open. I say good for them. If trains were close to valleying with people on board that would be a problem but that didn't seem like it was going to be an issue, it was only an issue when they were starting them with water dummies up or sending them empty.
Genx24 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 A quick question regarding pass processing. On Friday, when I scanned my voucher at the gate, the attendant scanned a plastic pass and then handed it to me right then and there. Once inside, I saw a manager watching guests come in and asked if I still had to go down to the processing center. he told me no. But now I'm seeing people mention they had to wait on line at processing, so I'm wondering, was I given bad information?
