Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

p. 777: Winterfest starts on November 29!

Recommended Posts

Jameswilson88 is one of kdfansite's (yeah, THAT site, can you say train wreck full of sandy vaginas?) biggest whiny babies about this whole ordeal. He's probably one of those people that sleeps with a postcard of his favorite roller coaster under his pillow and refers to the rides as if they were real people. Every time someone like him offers an opinion on the ride it just comes off as a three year old child rolling on the floor of Food Lion because mommy and daddy wouldn't get him his favorite sugary cereal.

I would like to say that though I occasionally post on KDfansite, I try not to "associate" myself from such "practices."

^ Don't believe these reports unless you've actually ridden the ride yourself.

The 79.1 mph i305 is not even as intense as say TTD or Kingda Ka, rides that the actual i305 dwarfed easily in its first weeks.

Intrimidator will go down in coaster history as one of the largest examples of engineering failure and false advertising (the park is still selling shirts that claim 85+mph).

I appreciate that some of you can try and stay positive but it's amazing for me to see a group of people claiming to be coaster enthusiasts acting like the ruination of 305 isn't that big of a deal. We just lost the world's (by-far) most intense coaster! I don't want to be dramatic but that is a newsworthy item if I've ever seen one.

Intrimidator - the world's tallest hyper coaster.

I305 is gonna go down in history as fail less than this post will.

Ahem:

puffery:

Definition

Advertising or sales presentation relying on exaggerations, opinions, and superlatives, with little or no credible evidence to support its vague claims. Puffery may be tolerated to an extent so long as it does not amount to misrepresentation (false claim of possessing certain positive attributes or of not possessing certain negative attributes).

Sorry, lawsuit-seekers. No dice.

I think the engineer's probably did quite fine. Could it be a marketing dept fail instead? Maybe your home park went to Intamin and asked for a 300ft/90+mph ride, and didn't really think it through too much (for whatever reason it was trimmed, stress on the riders, maintenance, whatever) I imagine the "plan B" that is the trims was in the plans all along - much like how they change out all sorts of wheels when testing and opening a new ride, they need to tinker with it a bit

Meh. I think there have been FAR worse fails than selling old t-shirts. I don't think you'd last a minute in China. The bad translations would make you kill yourself with a TOGO restraint.

It's funny that some of the people who are lampooning me for using coaster message boards also posted negative statements in the same kdfansite post that I used...

Is expressing a negative viewpoint about a ride change really out of line or something? I don't frequent this forum (now I know why, the attitude here is pretty angry) but I thought I'd share my thoughts like anyone else, it is a discussion board after all, but apparently this is a positive park-praising thread only so I'll step out. Clever to call another forum "a bunch of sandy vaginas" while also being a sandy vagina yourself.

Apparently everyone is in love with the neutered 305.

EDIT: And before someone posts it, here are my thoughts on this same issue from the land of sandy vaginas, kdfansite.

"I really don't understand why some of you (and those over at themeparkreview, probably the same trolls) are so angry about people posting their opinions on a DISCUSSION board. If you want to engage in a discussion where there is no 2-way and only one opinion head over to the foxnews.com boards....

I don't imagine the park will change the ride. I'm realistic and mature enough to realize that petitions and angry letters don't work. I realize fully the reasons the ride was shut down. I realize it's most likely a combo of Intamin and CF failure. Everyone who lambasts me for sharing an opinion keeps acting like I don't know these things... I DO.

Regardless of who, what, where, why this happened... it has happened. We can either sit here and pretend like everything is great over at i305, or we can be mature people and have a discussion about the changes. A lot of you obviously don't want to have these discussions, so leave the discussion topic.... it's not hard. Maybe we should start a thread called "i305 praise and fantalk" so you can only read glorious praise as to how the new 79.5 speed is making these better....

Everyone grow up and learn how to have a real discussion instead of pointing fingers and b****** about other people's posts that you disagree with."

Robb, this guy is 4 for 4.

Dude, the reason everyone is laughing AT you is because you sound like a child over a roller coaster getting slowed down. Seriously, take a step back, think about what exactly you're complaining about, re-evaluate how pathetic it makes you sound and how pathetic it makes your life sound, and then just take a chill pill. You know what I do with coasters I don't like? Yep, you guessed it, I don't ride them. It's a good philosophy, you should try it out. Thousands of people will appreciate the line being that much shorter.

Nobody is calling you right or wrong over your opinion (that's why it's YOUR opinion), we're all just sitting back and enjoying the freak show as you and kdfansite go Chernobyl over the trims.

^ Gratz on making this board more smug than an Apple keynote address.

Your anger is pretty impressive... yelling about how "pathetic" I am and how "pathetic" it is to enjoy a ride that no longer exists. Wouldn't it be considered "pathetic" to engage in name calling with someone you don't know over an internet message board? One nerd reading a board telling another nerd reading a board that he's "pathetic" is bringing the LOLz.

I won't further engage you trolls. I welcome a ban for expressing my opinion, as a couple private messages have suggested that I'm about to get one for expressing an opinion and defending myself against the "non-pathetic."

^I have no opinion on the matter of I305 since I've ridden neither version and therefore I'm coming at this discussion from an unbiased viewpoint, and although I agree on some levels that some of the responses to your comments were hardly inviting, I think the reason you are seeing these types of responses is that your posts aren't really a disucssion. Obviously you are more than welcome to feel the way you do about I305, that's your opnion of the matter which is fine, but your input into the conversation made it difficult for anyone to respond and did come off as feeling that the neutering of I305 was the end of the world which can easily be misunderstood. The people on these forums are more than happy to discuss the topic with you, but it has to be done in a matter that can actually be a discussion. Both extremes are difficult to respond to, you are on one end, and many are on the opposite end on these boards and a fun to read topic could come of this polarization if discussed in the proper way (by both extremes, this isn't just addressed at you). I came here interested in reading about the new trims and am having trouble doing so because of the events of the last few pages. I think everyone stepping back and reevaluating what this topic is about would help those like me who can't (unfortunately) get out and ride the ride ourselves to see how the changes have affected the ride.

This isn't a life or death matter. It's a freaking roller coaster! Do I consider myself an enthusiast? Sure. Do I like to go to parks for recreational purposes? Sure. Hell I'll even discuss what some of my favorite parks are currently doing...imagine that. However, I am not going to dwell on one issue for weeks on end, lose sleep over it, and pull my hair out over a t-shirt (I have seen Top Thrill Dragster go as low as 115 and as high as 123...launched coaster I know, but it's heavily advertised to go 120, so it's the same concept). Kings Dominion has been in this business for decades, and they are the experts. Based on those credentials, I put faith in the fact that they know what they are doing.

What's wrong with our society is that it would take someone to DIE on this ride because of the extreme forces for the trims to be accepted without conflict...and even then I bet the same people would still be whining. It's like that anywhere, not just amusement parks. My major is in safety (construction safety, fall protection, that sort of thing), and sadly I know that first statement all too well. It takes a fall for people to wear their fall protection, it takes someone to get electrocuted for people to take those precautions, etc. Otherwise, it's just whine city all day every day.

This quote gets an honorable mention for also being funny (like ACTUALLY being funny, not funny in a sad and pathetic way)

And I just want to go on record so that everyone here knows...

When TPR pokes fun at someone, it's not because they have an opinion, it's because of HOW THEY PRESENTED their opinion.

There is a right and a wrong way to do it.

The right way will generate pages of great discussion between members.

The wrong way will generate lots of smililes -

Please try to present your opinions the "right" way.

^ But it can be very very entertaining!

On topic - i305 still looks like an awesome ride to me, and it seems to me that the park needed it. There seemed to be something lacking there last time I visited. Rides were fine, staff was nice, but it seemed like there was just a lack of interest. The new coaster, trimmed and untrimmed, seems to have added that IMHO.
