p. 201 - Iron Menace announced for 2024!

Going saturday july 12th. Getting fast lane but how will the crowds be?

There are never crowds at Dorney. Every coaster will be a walk on. Don't get Fast Lane, it's a complete waste of money and won't save you any time at all because no line will ever be beyond the merge point. If it saves you any time it will be about 5 minutes tops on the log flume and the mouse.

It'll probably be packed in the waterpark, but the regular park shouldn't be too packed. You're definitely best off waiting till you get to the park to decide if you want to buy a fast lane.

^That probably would be the best option. I also went to the park on a Saturday, last year (in August) and although the water park was crowded the park itself wasn't, at all (no more than 15-20 minutes). However when the water park closed it got pretty packed with lines increasing considerably, so I would say you should try to ride as much as possible until later in the afternoon.

How are the operations on the flat rides? I don't think theres enough rides on the fast lane, seems like they could put meteor and deamon drop on it or something.

In my experience, operations at Dorney at consistently very good, except for the Wild Mouse (miserable) and the Monster, which is horribly slow to load/unload by design. Everything else has been run very well each time I've been in the last few years.

I love to ride the Monster, but I won't do it unless there is absolutely no wait or there are two crew members working it. Otherwise, it can be excruciating.

SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa -

Two passengers were injured on the Stinger roller coaster at Doney Park early Friday evening.

The coaster's train started up the initial lift hill from the station, but then partially rolled back down, according to park officials.

Two of the riders requested to be transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township as a precaution.

"Safety is always our number one priority," said Dorney spokeswoman Carrie Basta, "thus the ride was closed for the remainder of the evening and will remain closed while a collaborative effort between the park, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the ride manufacturer investigate."

I'm trying to understand what occurred, but i'm guessing either the catchcar failed to get ahold of the train correctly and it stopped suddenly just after releasing or the train was let go at the top and the station brakes stopped the train at a very sudden rate. Hopefully there will be more info to make it a little more clear.

As much as I think it is not a bad ride, they have had quite a few issues with it with it getting in the news. Take it out and put something more reliable in its place.

As much as I like Laser, there's so many things they could do with that space that would be more interesting than bringing back a ride that's in excess of 30 years old. There's plenty of tested and proven equipment out there that could be there instead. Enough stopgap solutions and cheaping out; why not something new? Even if it's a production model....

^^I'm not really suggesting they bring it back... while I do feel that it was the second best coaster in the park when they removed it I know it's not like they can just bring it back now and try to market it. I'm just pointing out that I really don't understand why they did it in the first place. Not only is Stinger a bad ride, but it's been a maintenance nightmare. Laser was neither of those things.

^ To be fair, Laser was gone years before Stinger came to Dorney (2008 / 2012). Comparing Possessed's maintenance record with Laser would be a lot fairer since that's the coaster that directly replaced it at the park.

I'm with coasterbill. I do not see the point why they took out Laser. For me its simply the maintenance nightmare Stinger has become. I do think Stinger is a more fun ride because you get to face your friends and I love going backwards on coasters, but I would prefer Laser still be there because it did not have any many issues as this coaster. I do think they should take it out and replace it with something custom. They have not received a custom coaster in a while.

Yeah Hydra back in 2005.

It's time for an RMC woodie! Hercules the redemption coaster anyone?

Maybe if Cedar Fair never wants a return on their investment. I'd imagine an original RMC would cost a pretty penny.

Silver Dollar City afforded one and their attendance can't be more than Dorney Park. I'd also imagine that Allentown is a little more populated than Branson.

I could be wrong but didn't Outlaw Run cost somewhere in the 10 million dollar range? If so, they seem to be pretty affordable for the amazing rides they deliver.

Yeah it does. I don't know how it is in terms of maintenance, though (although I know it is supposed to be cheaper than most wooden rides, but then it's also slightly more expensive)
