Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom Discussion Thread

p. 201 - Iron Menace announced for 2024!

Very "Dorney" addition. I like it for the park.

Actually. This is a cookie cutter clone of worlds of fun's waterslide complex. The drop slide layouts are the same. The tube slides are the same. So this isn't any bit original.

I am not saying it is original. I am just saying that it is an addition that is a pretty typical addition for the park, and makes sense for what they are going toward.

So this isn't any bit original.

You're implying that the majority of eastern Pennsylvania has any idea of what or where Worlds of Fun is.

Exactly. Conversely, I hadn't heard of Dorney Park before joining this forum. I'm not a stickler for rides having to be original, either; some rides are just amusement park staples that you expect to see everywhere. It seems like drop capsule slides are becoming a waterpark staple, and I couldn't be happier.

Half the people I talk to have never even heard of Kennywood.

Snake Pit is unique to the area as it has slides that no other water park in the area has a drop capsule slide or ProSlide Constrictor. I have never experienced either of these and I'm kind of excited for it, but it is kind of sad that Riptide Run will be taken out.

Then again, I can kind of see why they would be removing it since you have to exit the attraction by passing directly across the entrance, the flow of the catch-ponds was horrible as it would leave riders stuck in a whirlpool trying to go down the next slide, and I once got my back slightly scratched on the main drop from foam that was ripped on the slide.

I think all the slides are made by whitewater west. Which brings up the only problem I have with the slides. The tube slides are very similar to patriot's pluge (the dark twisty one, the one with the straight long drop, and the one with the double dip) which is also made by whitewater. It's like putting a batman clone in a park with an older B&M invert.

Definitely the perfect move for CF and Dorney....love the addition.

Not sure if I would do some of those trap door slides though. How do people like them compared to the old drop/speed slide towers where you got the honor of digging your bathing suit out of your back county road in front of spectators and enjoyed snorting & inhaling two cups of chlorinated water on the way down?

With the exception of Crush 'n' Gusher and Summit Plummet, the Great Escape's trap door slide (Cliffhanger) is my favorite water slide anywhere. They're incredibly thrilling no matter how many times you ride them. And I honestly didn't get that bad of a wedgie on it.

So, yesterday I went to Dorney Park for the first time since the year Steel Force was put in. Man, am I old!

Hydra's hang-time in the jojo roll is an absolute blast! The rest of the ride, while not terribly forceful, is a whole lot of twisted fun.

Talon is...amazing. It's so freaking smooth and graceful while still being very powerful. One of my friends calls it "probably one of the most perfectly-engineered coasters in the world", and I agree with him.

^ couldn't agree more about Talon. It's tied with Montu for my favorite invert. It was a total surprise hit for me as I wasn't really expecting it to be as good as it is. My first trip to Dorney was a couple years ago, and the crowds happened to be light, so we rode Talon for pretty much the full last hour we were at the park. Such an awesome ride.

Going to Dorney for the 2nd time this coming weekend--can't wait! It's one of my favorite parks I've been to!

I've only been to Dorney once, back in 2002 and I'm glad I got a chance to ride Herc. I didn't find it to be rough, and the drop over the pond was kind of fun, but it just kind of meandered around the rest of the course. It wasn't a bad experience, just a mediocre one. For the poster who preferred Hercules to Thunderhawk, has Thunderhawk dropped off that much in the past 10 years? I found it to be pretty fun the last time I was on it...
