Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom Discussion Thread

p. 201 - Iron Menace announced for 2024!

To be honest, I think Cedar Fair did the right thing on moving Invertigo and other rides. Mostly becuase it would be cheaper then buying a brand new one even though you have a park that already has one. Also Demon Drop popularity was droping so why not move it to another park to raise that parks attendence. Invertigo was at a park with finaceical problems which at the time I thought Great America was gonna close. Vodoo or whatever it is called now was at a defunct park and it was a Intamin Shuttle that was still in good conidtion.

Hey when it was built it was on the more intense side of things. I have a soft spot in my heart for Dorney because it was my homepark growing up. I rode Steel Force so many times in a row as an employee (Talon too). Steel Force is just so relaxing to me. It is really like meditation, no outrageous thrills but it clears my mind and is scenic and relaxing.

I actually really like the Helix and I never felt that roughness you are talking about. The other thing I love about that ride is that amazing view from the station. It just looks endless. It would make for a great horizon painting or drawing.

I do like the setting. Once as I was riding, some birds were showing off for us by furiously flapping their wings.

The main feature I feel the ride is missing is an intense headchopper helix like on Mamba. There aren't any headchoppers on Steel Force I felt really worked for me. However, the airtime seems on par with Mamba if not better; they both had surprisingly good pops compared to what I'd been expecting based on critical reports.

Pretty neat to see, original plans for Hercules posted on NewsPlusNotes. Mike always posts such great stuff over there.

I'm on a Youtube spree and found all of these old goodies:

1990 Commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o_WBxZMt_Y

Epic 80s commercial, in the middle of the video. Some other epic commercials in there too, gotta love the 16 digit party line!

1993 Batman the Ride and then another Dorney commercial, gotta say the B:TR commercial is pretty epic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8QFNMJRTMs

1986 Out there Dorney gymnastics related commercial, but what an epic weekend, we could go to Dorney Park AND see Top Gun AND Ferris Bueller in theaters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M_sYuNIlX8

  • 4 weeks later...

This video leaves so many questions unanswered. What year is Grandpa Ryan reminiscing about? What year is it in the present? Even though they're both separated by 50 or 60 years, why do they both look like 1990? Is that what the future will be like? And was it really necessary for his grandson to say Dorney Park's full name? If he really remembers it so fondly, that must be pretty condescending, UNLESS he's suffering from dementia and we've been dealing with an unreliable narrator this whole time. And did he steal that carousel horse from Dorney Park? So many questions!!!

How close is the track color to that of Possessed's supports? They look so nice together in that shot.

I also think this. I like the way that Possessed's supports and Stinger's track are about the same color, it makes the area look more unified and there isn't a big mixture of random colors... Impressive CF!

I was a little skeptical of this addition at first because it was another inverted shuttle coaster located right next to the other one, but the more I thought about it, the ride experiences are a lot different and it does look nice in the old Laser spot. Not as nice as Laser, but nice.

Dorney to me is an "incomplete" park (I'm not a water park guy)...I've never encountered any long lines there, so I'm usually done with riding all of this:

Talon

Hydra

Steel Force

Possessed

Thunderhawk

Meteor

Dominator

Thunder Creek Mountain.

The go-karts if I feel like spending the extra cash

In about two hours. Hydra and Possessed have helped and I'm sure Stinger will too, but to me they're another marquee coaster away from being more "complete".

I agree. When I went in 2009 we finished everything we wanted to ride in the park (and some we didn't even want to ride), and wen to the water park during the afternoon just to eat some time while waiting for night rides on Talon and Steel Force. I don't know what kind of coaster they'd add though or where.
