Jew Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 So what's everyone's thoughts on MGM announcing that they will begin charging for parking? I actually switched my allegiance from MGM properties to Total Rewards because the principle of further gouging the guests (resort fees are already bogus) to try and make up revenue lost from poor management just irks me...
bert425 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 So what's everyone's thoughts on MGM announcing that they will begin charging for parking? I actually switched my allegiance from MGM properties to Total Rewards because the principle of further gouging the guests (resort fees are already bogus) to try and make up revenue lost from poor management just irks me... we fly in and don't ever rent a car. . so have never actually made use of any Vegas casino property lots. . but i think it's a terrible idea -- just based on what my friends who live locally are saying. They are going to refuse to visit any casino that charges, and it's going to cost the casinos some business. Now.. to be fair. . . most locals don't seem to GO that often to strip, or Freemont casinos anyways (which is why the Strip casinos offer deep discounted show tix/food options for locals) . . .instead preferring to go to off strip places, typically with a ton of free open lots surrounding them anyways. but I do think it's gonna cost them SOME business. my 2cents
gisco Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I think if your staying at an MGM property you will just suck it up. But if you are off the strip you will find free parking and go there costing them some business. I think the valet parking downtown was free. Of coarse you should tip them.
Jew Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Yeah, MGM plans to charge for valet too. So they'll be costing their valet guys tips. It makes sense on nights there are events at the arena, but it's probably bad for them in the long run.
jray21 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 ^That's too bad. I just hope other properties don't follow suit.
jarmor Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Is it possible for this thread to be moved to the theme parks, roller coasters and donkeys section? Vegas is like a theme park for adults with its rides, shows and unique experiences? And there's been an influx of vegas questions topics popping up (and I would have loved to discover this thread before my trip lol)
SharkTums Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Not a bad suggestion...kind of in line with the Cruise Ship Thread that is also on the main forum.
bert425 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 ^That's too bad. I just hope other properties don't follow suit. My Brother just got back from Vegas 3 days ago, and we discussed Vegas over lunch yesterday. the others have already followed suit -- similar to how they all charge Resort Fees now. He runs a national Poker Chip club, and was trying to arrange which hotel they would be using this year for their convention. He told me they were looking at Off Strip options (can't recall the name of the casino tho).. and he told me that Valet was $45 and Self Parking was $35. . and so that Hotel lost his business. They ended up looking elsewhere.
Saldek Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Las Vegas Restaurant Week has been announced for June 6-17, 2016. http://www.helpoutdineoutlv.org/ The roster of participating restaurants hasn't been posted yet but they should be rolling in shortly.
jray21 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 (edited) One of these years I'll get to experience it. Looks like a great event. Edited March 21, 2016 by jray21
Saldek Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Restaurant week starts tomorrow and the menus are up! http://www.helpoutdineoutlv.org/ If you're in town you should look into visiting some of these places. They have some really great deals!
Jew Posted June 6, 2016 Author Posted June 6, 2016 ^Oh I most definitely will! In other news, MGM finally revealed the renovation of Monte Carlo. The main hotel will become "Park MGM" (very imaginative) and the former top floor botique hotel (Hotel32---best kept secret in vegas IMO) will become NoMad (which apparently has a New York outpost). Oh, and they also started charging for parking...
Saldek Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Oh, and they also started charging for parking... Worst news ever!
laqueefa Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 I booked a trip to Vegas for the 2nd week in July. I'm planning on taking in a comedy show (got tickets to see Joe Rogan), and hopefully go ride El Loco! Any suggestions of other fun things to do are welcome. I'm hoping to eat at Steak again, and maybe eating my bodyweight in .
Mr Stratosphere Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Below is my video of last night's Riviera Monaco Tower Implosion. Enjoy! [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
Nrthwnd Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 ^ Well, why not make it a fireworks-loaded E-vent? At 0230 in the morning. Cheaper than a rock band! That was different. And fun to watch.
awclark Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Well if you're like me and are attending EDC (or Electric Daisy Carnival) at Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend, have a blast and stay safe as always! Excited to check out what carnival rides and art installations they have this year. I saw pictures that they have a log flume this go around! For me this will be my 7th time in a row attending the festival! 1st time was when it was still in LA at the LA coliseum in 2010 and then ever since it moved to Vegas in 2011, I've been every year since Always good fun dancing until the sun comes up! haha
Philrad71 Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 ^^^ Even though the Riviera was pretty much crap, it's still sad for me to see one more of the casinos that I remember from my youth get imploded. Will Circus Circus be next?
chadster Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Below is my video of last night's Riviera Monaco Tower Implosion. Enjoy! [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] That was definitely a good time, can't remember the last time I was up for 24 hours straight!

EDC is always a blast for the total experience. 4 years straight for me. ^^My understanding is that Circus Circus is a huge profit center for MGM. Edited June 23, 2016 by Jew
Xmeister Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Hey everyone, I know a lot of us miss Vegas when theming was all the rage. I was looking for photos from when the Luxor was filled with awesome (and sometimes corny) theming. I came across this video of the hotel from 1994, it's opening year. You can see footage of things like the short lived Nile River Adventure, the exterior night time show, and the outside of the bizarre In Search of the Obelisk simulator attraction. As you can see, a lot has changed since then. In my opinion the majority of the changes have made the Luxor much less interesting. Today only scarce remnants of the original theme remain in the interior. It's been sad to see so many places in Vegas lose the decorations that made them unique. I guess that's business though. Anyways, enjoy seeing the Luxor as it was 22 years ago! (Warning: The video I found the footage in is some kind of weird conspiracy theory video. I turned the sound off and enjoyed the footage much more. The footage of the Luxor is mostly contained to the first half.)
Mr Stratosphere Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Skip forward to 11:44 and you will see Stratosphere's first television commercial!! Also this video postcard from 1999 is pretty cool, crazy how much the city has changed! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KinKpbk5Lkc
jray21 Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 I love the old commercials. It's amazing how much the strip has changed!
