Hardest required school class?

I'm currently in college right now, and my degree has a lot of classes that are "core" classes (required classes which I don't have as much interest in) and I was just wondering...which of these "required" classes did you think was the hardest?

It can be college or high school or whatever level of education you are at as long as you state why you found it hard and as long as it isn't relevant to your degree/career plans (because that goes against the thread's point)

I’d put my vote in for Chemistry, in particular because of how hard the Final can be. Memorizing the charges and gas law formulas is not a cakewalk either, especially if you’re the kind of person that doesn’t care for studying. Passing college-level Chemistry without a calculator to help with those pesky calculation questions is very tricky, but I know from personal experience that it can be done.

I will agree that College Algebra is a failed-test-zone for procrastinators though, but mainly the second section on quadratics. Once you get past that point it does start to get a little easier IMHO, and the final is a snooze-fest compared to the one in Chemistry.

US History is a very annoying class, although I wouldn’t consider it hard. It’s just that there are so many events to memorize and most people aren’t passionate about it so you end up forgetting important names and dates whenever you actually take the tests (sigh). The questions dealing with how and why people reacted the way they did are not trivial, though, and the reading essays that many teachers will assign do require some thorough reading of the texts and some fine-tuned writing. Most people that choose to coast their way through History are stopped dead in their tracks by the reading essays.

Hardest class I ever took was Physics. Obviously some coaster fans are going to be the physics type, but I'm definitely not one of them! I failed the course. Fortunately it wasn't required overall--I was just forced to take it one year for some reason.

Of the truly required classes, the worst for me has always been algebra. I think I've taken it 3 or 4 times, but not because of failing, just because more than one school has required me to take it at that school.

Now to college...I think I've only taken 2 core classes as of now, Writing 121 and Math 65 (not sure if the numbers are standardized or unique to my school, but I guess it gives you an idea of the "level"). Thankfully, I only need Math 65 for my degree--too bad I would need much more for a transfer degree! Math was the hardest for me. I have always found math to be just slightly fun though, so that made it a little more tolerable.

Reason for the above? I'm pretty sure in the end it just comes down to brain type. I'm not the math/science brain type. I'm the language arts type.

For me, it was Religious Education. The staff at my school just ran around like headless chickens when I told them I'm an aethiest. They kept putting me in that class for five years and wondered why I refused to do the work!

Just curious. Do/did you go to a religious school? Why didn't you do the work--were you forced to write from a perspective of believing in God?

You can't not believe in God of you do R.E! Nah... I'm in my final compulsary year of secondary school (Year 11) and we still have to do R.E. My teacher looks like a steriotypical Jesus... I find R.E. quite easy if i'm completely honest. However i'm currently failing Chemistry and I have to re-sit my 1b paper!

During undergrad the hardest class I took had to either be Russian History, or The History of Jews in Europe 1939-1945. The Russian History course was hard simply because there was so much to learn and I didn't have any background in Russian history. The class on Jewish people in Europe was hard largely due to the complex structure of the holocaust and how it was implemented.

In Law School hardest classes go either to Civil Procedure or Wills and Trusts. Civ Pro was nightmarish in every way, all the way up to our 12 hour final exam. Wills and Trusts was hard because I'm not really much of a property law person.

Even if the teachers says that the "Electromagnetic field theory" course is the hardest my University have on offer. I and several others disagree...

I took an entire test without putting down my pencil and created the left hand rule of electricity and magnetism, which oddly comes up with answers completely opposite in direction to the correct ones.

I didnt fail the test, but I came damn near close to it.

Maybe not the toughest, but definately the most arduous class for me was Fundamentals of Structural Analysis which had weekly problem sets that took in excess of 30 hours even when working together.

My most hated class.... World Lit. I have dropped it twice, and I managed to get a C in the class when I took it over the summer. It was hell. We had almost 30 pages of reading to do every night. Only reason I did so good in the class was because I found out the types of essays she does, so I studies that a lot more. The rest of the test has trivial information that is almost impossible to know unless you 100% understand the story. And don't even get me started on how the stories were boring, and most were in Old English so it makes very little sense.

I remember when I took Physics the professor said something along the lines of, "the main thing to remember about the right hand rule is that it's the right hand rule". It's easier than it sounds to make that mistake.

Incidentally, I know an engineer turned ER doc who says that engineering school is harder than medical school. At least in terms of the difficulty of the problems. Medical school is a lot of easy concepts and facts given to you at a death march pace. Engineering school, like you say, has problems that take unreasonable amounts of time to solve.

Physics 2212 - Intro to Physics, electricity and magnetism. An intro class shouldn't be hard, right? Well, the mechanics side of physics came easy to me, but I struggled with this one for some reason

For the people complaining about APs, I hope you get transferable credit for them because it is a better option than taking the same class in college

My most difficult class was a media law class I took in college. I had to take it twice, but I did much better the second time. I first took it my sophomore year, so I was sort of still learning the ropes, and it was the first class in my major, and it just beat the heck out of me. By junior year, it was better.

My most annoying class is Spanish I.

I should be in Spanish II. I'm fine with being in Spanish I but the teachers require exact spelling of EVERY single word. We have a quiz everyday. It just sucks.

How dare they hold the class to the same standard as other classes, especially English classes.

I'm studying to become a Computer Science Engineer, and so far the hardest course has been 'Signal Theory and Processing' (if you don't know what I'm talking about take a look on wiki for signal processing, and you'll find out...).

Too much stuff to know with little to no meaning at all, at least at the sight of the humble human being I am...

I passed the course with a pitiful mark (should be something close to a C in the US scale) and swore to never ever have to do with it again!

My 2 biggest struggles were Stats (Way too many similar formulas to memorize) and Political Science. I took Poli-Sci during my first ever semester in college and was scared to death that I was going to fail as every test I took I bombed. I stayed on finals day to do an extra credit 'game' the teacher did (most of the class did actually) so we could have a slight chance of passing. I passed with a C. Also it did not help when 2 of my friends who were also enrolled in the same class as me came over so we can 'study' which ended up being more of playing Smash Bros.

Stats on the other hand...I was actually doing legit studying there, even bought the TI-38 calculator in hopes that I can use that to slip my way through the fast-paced summer course. A week after getting the calculator, I dropped from the class and attempted it in the fall as I was not doing so swift at all.

Runners up were the rest of the lower level math courses up to algebra, which I did not do in HS...was not a requirement at the time so I skimped out and finished HS with pre-algebra. The placement tests at the community college placed me at rock bottom, starting with their version of basic math...lol
