A.J. Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I hope that they put some trees or shrubbery in between that road and the coaster, it looks incredibly bare. EDIT: Just checked out Street View imagery, the entire area, inside and outside the park, is bare! Yikes!
neil009 Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 ^Most of Kentucky Kingdom is reasonably shaded and pleasant. I trust them to do a nice job with the landscaping.
DoinItForTheFame Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 This coaster keeps looking better and better with every new picture! Can't wait to see the final product.
tidecat Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I hope that they put some trees or shrubbery in between that road and the coaster, it looks incredibly bare. EDIT: Just checked out Street View imagery, the entire area, inside and outside the park, is bare! Yikes! In case if you've never been there, it's bordered by either the state fairgrounds or various city streets. It is literally less than a half-mile from Louisville International Airport, so the tree cover is minimal. I also don't know how old the street view imagery is, but it may be from before the park reopened in 2014. I would love to see a more attractive fence around the perimeter rather than the barbed wire, but it would probably cost more than some flat rides in the park.
A.J. Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 also don't know how old the street view imagery is, but it may be from before the park reopened in 2014. It's actually fairly new, Storm Chaser is in the early stages of construction, at least along Crittenden Drive.
VandeSte Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 also don't know how old the street view imagery is, but it may be from before the park reopened in 2014. It's actually fairly new, Storm Chaser is in the early stages of construction, at least along Crittenden Drive. Correct - Crittenden Drive is dated Sep. 2015 The two small streets/alleys are dated back to 2011
Midgetman82 Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Crittenden Drive bordering the park is pretty much a concrete jungle with some industrial facilities across the street (i.e., I park in Pepsi's parking lot to get those panoramas from across the street). The track on this coaster is literally the most visually striking aspect along the road with its shapes and bright color. Ironically enough, Storm Chaser sits right next to the most heavily forested area of the entire park along with Mile High Falls. But like mentioned by neil009, the landscaping team has been doing a pretty decent job these few years in adding some greenery all over the park where needed and allowing it to grow over time.
neil009 Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 ^Yeah, particularly the side of the park Storm Chaser sits on did not strike me as one of these vast concrete deserts at all. I'm sure they'll at least put some grass down.
tidecat Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Who owns the mostly vacant land along Phillips Lane? That would be a prime spot to expand the park. Some tree cover would be nice there as well.
jedimaster1227 Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 The Iron Horse track stands out so beautifully in these photos! I love seeing this ride come together as it continues to near completion! Thank you for sharing!
Vonni Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Who owns the mostly vacant land along Phillips Lane? That would be a prime spot to expand the park. Some tree cover would be nice there as well. I've thought the same thing for many years.
aaron88stang Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I have thought this as well. I would also love to see the park expand over to where the state fair midway is set up.
jynx242 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 This is coming along VERY nicely!! Looks great!
Guy T. Koepp Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 It looks like they haven't progressed much since the last set of pictures we saw Bach in December. Anyone local know how they are coming along?
ratdogg68 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 ^ They been working on connecting the Station to the Lift Hill, Stairs /walkway from station up the lift hill and removing more of the old structure on the remaining layout.
Guy T. Koepp Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Gotcha. I am looking forward to seeing more progress. This is gonna be a fun little coaster. It's gonna be nice to have 2 RMCs within a few hours of meh casa.
ratdogg68 Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Yeah, I'm Loving the direction KY Kingdom is going. I live 20 minutes away and spend several days, during the summer, at the Park. I worked there for 5 Seasons, when it was changing to SFKK and it's already made some drastic improvements.
coasterbill Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I'm really excited for that first hill, the angle is ridiculous and it's more El Toro-like than modern RMC-like. I fully expect that hill to launch riders out of their seats in incredible fashion.
Vonni Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 That first pic makes the first drop look so....twisted
Nrthwnd Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 That first pic makes the first drop look so....warped! (In a very nice twisted way, I do agree!)
Midgetman82 Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I'm particularly fond of the last pic, which shows RMC really wanted to squeeze-in something similar to a zero-g stall, as well as provide an overbank! Also, the reflection makes it look very pretty as a structure!
mudvayneimn Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Those are awesome pictures....I had a dream last night that the trains were solid red..... I woke up crying.
