cfc
You are all sounding like complete morons with the "yeah that's Fox News for you". -r Point taken, but I would avoid the use of the term "complete morons" to describe those who might disagree with you. ginzo
There is really no reason to scare the general public away from parks, is there? Well, new outlets have their own interests in mind. Fox News is interested in increasing ratings, which brings in more ad revenue. Sensational stories are a surefire way to increase viewership. The old school term for this is "yellow journalism". So, yes the news does have financial incentives to scare you.
gk
Loose park ride cable blamed for girl’s maiming State officials have determined that a loose cable severed a 13-year-old girl’s feet above the ankles yesterday at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom; but they don’t know what prompted the cable to break free, an inspection spokesman said. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070622/ZONE06/70622013
CycloneMan
My mom just called me in to the living room to ask me if I knew anything about this! I told her what I knew. She read 7 articles! And she said, "I don't want your sister riding anymore drop towers!" My face and hers went like this . There her favorites. And then I explained to my mom that there were different types and that this is a freak accident (she understood). But the funny part was when she said, "Oh, and it's an Intamin!" -Dainan "I didn't tell her that cable snaps on coasters were normal" Rafferty
robbalvey
^ You need to tell her "Ok, mom, but my sistern and I will NEVER get in the car with you ever again, because I have a higher risk of dying there than I do on a drop tower." Seriously, what has there been like TWO drop tower accidents in the past decade? How many car accidents happen on your local highways?
raptorcrew2002
Here’s another interesting tidbit. Guess which ride is no longer listed on SFKK website. Found that interesting. http://www.sixflags.com/kentuckyKingdom/rides/AllRides.aspx As for the park shutting down the Drop towers, be interesting to see if this is manufacturer related or just precautionary. RaptorBoyASU
LOL at the people who believe any news source is fair and balanced. I will say this though, go to any federal department, military base, government contractor, etc.., the typical "conservative" strongholds, and see what news station it is. I can guarantee it's not FOX. In fact I know that DoD and DoS offices can only televise CNN for TV news. It's a bit left-biased, but probably the most centrist of the news agencies. OK, /rant I've never been on one of the 2nd gen freefall towers. I don't know if I will anytime soon either.

robbalvey
Here’s another interesting tidbit. Guess which ride is no longer listed on SFKK website. Found that interesting. This means nothing. It's so easy to pull a bit of text or put it back in a matter of seconds on a website. Perhaps they just don't want people inquiring about it since they know it's going to be closed? Why put information on a ride that knowingly won't be open? --Robb

stormrider
When I read about this accident, I wonder how lucky she is that the cable didn't cut off her head instead (though there's nothing good about being cut at all). Unless there's some sort of scientific/mechanical reason why that wouldn't happen. Oh yeah, and languages have dialects, and just like the thread about the "latina b!tch" some things are geared at trying to insult the people. In this case, it's just poking fun (in regards to the "hillbilly" dialect). And of all the puns and jokes, I somehow laughed the most at the one about Chang People are able to adapt to their circumstance, and I'm guessing that this girl will be able to do that. Hell, that woman on "Dancing With the Stars" with the prosthetic leg was able to still move around. Hopefully the viewers of the accident are able to move on as well. RCoasterny
I suspect they will close the one in SFOG. I hope they can wrap up the inspection and open it again when I visit SFOG in about 1.5 weeks.
Ccron10
Let's hope the girl gets well soon. All I can say is that I see a BIG lawsuit coming soon. This seems like a terrible year for ride safety -the enterprise fire -the Stand-Up coaster incident in Japan -the discovery of poorly mantained coasters over there. some others and now this. Rastuso
^Raptorboy CNN is the most centerist??????? That's laughable. Many of thier anchors outwardly support Democrats on air. They regularly have Begala and Carville, probably the 2 biggest lefties in the country, on spouting out talking points, and their Republicans they invite are all very middle of the road barely conservatives like Bob Dole. I guess you think Ted Turner is a centrist? CNN is less liberal now, simply because FOx News is destroying them in the ratings, which is why they actually have a few conservative voices. I still don't see how Fox can be anything but equal. I have never seen a conversation on there without both sides being represented unless no one on the left will come. I've seen CNN have MoveOn.org reps on and given many minutes to spout out thier most extreme views with not a single counterpoint presented, and the anchor agreeing to everything. But, to someone who is easily fooled by propaganda, Fox will appear very conservative, simply because they are so much less liberal than all the other stations. -r

Cameron
All commercial news media in the US is absolute garbage, including CNN. They are all driven by advertising dollars, which means they all focus on ratings, which is why they sensationalize everything. FOX "news" is by far the worst, and I'm constantly shocked that they're legally even permitted to be called "news". It has nothing to do with political slant. Interesting that not a single person here (or in the media) has commented on the fact that even though the ride suffered a major malfunction, the cars still safely returned to the ground. I would even guess that the ride could probably safely operate with just one (or two) cable per car, and the others are present simply for redundancy. (Just a guess, I really don't know - but it would seem like a sensible way to engineer the thing). That said, I'm never again getting into anything with a cable .. no elevators, no ski-lifts, and I just took all the brake/shifter cables off my bike to make it safer. Seriously people, abandoning drop towers is absurd. This was a horrible thing to happen to the girl, and I feel devastatingly sad for the family; but the chances of it happening are just sky-high. I need to find that statistic I read a few years back that stated more people were injured by garden hoses than amusement park rides. Stop letting the f*cked-up U.S. "news" media run your lives. Now there's a scary viewpoint. How did you come to that conclusion? Honestly, what about Fox News makes them not legally "news". And don't get political, you said it wasn't political. It scares the hell out of me how many people (who can vote) are so biased and hateful towards Republicans that they despise Fox News and think they should be taken off the air. Wake up people, this is America. Please move to China if you want speech controlled, and only one political choice, don't mess up the USA. -r
