Six Flags Great America (SFGAm) Discussion Thread

p. 513 - Wrath of Rakshasa dive coaster announced for 2025!

Do we have a stat anywhere on track length? I'm fine with short and sweet, just really curious.

At the groundbreaking Hank said the track length was somewhere on the order of 3500 feet.

I thought he said around 3,100 feet. Maybe I heard wrong.

While yes, I wanted this coaster to be named Larry or Steve, it's highly doubtful they would've come up with as cool of a logo for those names. I'm ridiculously excited that this is coming to my home park. Kudos to SFGAm and RMC on this one and I can't wait to ride this next summer. I actually appreciated the whole Six Flags video. I like that guy!

You're probably correct. Man I'm just too excited to think straight!

Damn, am I glad I have friends in the Chicago area I can visit

It's interesting that there are many rides now that have really long brake runs in lieu of MCBRs. There's Leviathan, Banshee, now this (you could argue GateKeeper but that already has an MCBR)... they couldn't have fit a double-up at the end there?

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Better then Bizarro, though. You feel like you're going to crash right into the station.

If you look at old Arrow's like Demon at CGA or SFGA the brake run is pretty huge, and those were built in 1976.

This thing looks insane. Very happy this is coming to my home park! The ride looks very intimidating; I'm glad they came up with a cool logo too! That reverse loop/speed hill thing nearly made me fall off my chair this morning. Crazy stuff! The whole first curve/turn-around looks like a psycho Cyclone tribute - 2 high, stacked turns, but insane here.

I didn't catch it - are they using the old Iron Wolf/Z-Force station again?

The only downside is the length. A coasters track length used to be determined by the height. There is so much wasted potential and kinetic energy at the end (YOLOcoaster, Iron Rattler, Leviathan, etc.). But as others have said, the short length of Outlaw Run hasn't kept it from being the best wooden coaster in the world!

Something I meant to ask earlier but totally spaced: What kind of forces will be in that stall element? Will it actually be zero-G, or will it be going fast enough that you'd get reverse airtime (pushed into your seat)? Or maybe it'll go slow enough for some killer hangtime.

Okay after re-watching the POV that zero-G stall things looks insane! And the way that it's kind of hidden in the structure is really going to surprise a lot of riders.

Agreed. Favorite part of the layout, by a long shot. Flipping upside down is one thing, but nobody's gonna expect to be held there for a couple seconds!

That part is pretty crazy. It's similar to the Outlaw Run 153-degree inversion, only taken to its logical extreme. I was surprised by just how comfortable that bizarre-looking element was, and I'm guessing you'll get a similar sensation out of this one. It's not really hang-time -- it's more zero-G, and really fun. Agreed with the last poster that it may even be negative-G that keeps you in your seat.

After all those AMAZING RMC announcements in the USA, WHEN is RMC finally coming to Europe???

Pfffft, we're keeping them all for ourselves!

If there is a price point that the park requested the ride to be at, wouldn't you want every feet of track to be packed with the elements that ride has? Every additional feet of track added to the layout, would just add to the costs and go over the budget. I'd rather have the balanced, shorter ride that costs the same as the longer ride with less extreme elements.

Of course... and it's going to be a stellar ride either way. A further discussion might include - "well, they could wait another year, and build a longer ride" (complete with pre-lift section, etc. etc. etc.) but they aren't doing that.

*Edit: An Anton shuttle loop is what, 32 seconds? Those are still one of my favorite rides. So length doesn't have to matter from that pov.

It looks cool and all, but I just hate the way things are going with more wood coasters having inversions...what's wrong with just having some heavy banked/overbanked turns and airtime hills instead of dive loops and zero g rolls? Idk...wood coasters without inversions remind me of better times, and these new rides aren't helping matters. Son of Beast was understandable because they were trying for something so immense and over the top, but stuff like this is just depressing. I mean, El Toro doesn't have any inversions and it worked out pretty well.
