andyuk200523 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I have to say, I have finally watched the videos on that site and there is absolutly no **** in hells chance you would get me on that ride, without a shadow of a doubt that would be my idea of a knightmare.....I get nervous just watching that!!!! 350ft Giant Drop Freefall, not a problem, leaving my life in the hands of a metal cable and making myself walk off a stupidly tall building......never gonna happen!!!!!!!
disneylanddork50 Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 OH. My. GOSH! ! ! ! I'm sooooo doing this! ! ! ! ! If it's not a free fall, then what exactly is it?
thecoasterkid Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I'm mixed on this thing. If the price is right, I'd do it. Would pay $50-$75 for it, but not much more than that. Honestly though, I don't think it's worth $100. It's a "controlled" fall, not a true "freefall". You're travelling down slower than the speed of gravity, that's the difference. You would be thrilled and scared, but wouldn't have as much of that true stomach in your throat feeling. That's what really sets SCAD Towers apart from anything else. It's just you, nothing at all holding you in place, dropping 150ft through the air. Biggest rush of my life and WELL worth the $25 I paid for it at the Dells.
Hercules Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 ^ "Ok..... I'm 1,200 feet in the air. Is this cable going to hold up?! Is this harness going to stay in place?! Is this clip going to be secure?!" Sure it is "controlled" but I'm pretty sure it would be scary as all hell.
SKULLY Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Check out the one at the Macau Tower, that actually looks like a real free fall with nothing more than guide wires to keep you from smashing against the tower. This looks like you're attached to an elevator cable and lowered down beside a building. I'm sure it would be a thrill but it's like taking the bacon from a blt. Dare I say it, it's almost boring. Especially when compared to the old fashioned rubber band jumps. Just let people fall. Oh, and check out the online video of the bungee out of a helicopter. Now that would make me lose a few fluids.
televisedconfession Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I get vertigo just thinking about this. I'd have to have A LOT of alcohol in my system in order for me to do this.
grinch1313 Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 ^I don't think there's enough alcohol in the world to get me to do that. I considered being at the top of the Stratosphere an achievement for me. I MIGHT work up enough courage to do one of the rides on the West Coast trip, but definitely not this.
Twister II Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 Anyone who went on the TPR Asia trip care to share a review?
ILoveRides Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Does anyone know what happened with this? Did it get delayed/cancelled, or is it actually being built now? I haven't heard anything new since the initial rumor.
cprocks22 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I really hope its being built, cause I would do this in a heartbeat. Looks like a ton of fun .
coasterguy4 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Ahhh, I have done this in New Zealand. It is really fun. Hope these plans turn out!
themeparkman25 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Well as of IAAPA, I did not see a single thing going on on top of the tower. So I would assume that it is on hold at this point in time.
Jew Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Staff has not been given an opening date for the new attraction yet.
ILoveRides Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Staff has not been given an opening date for the new attraction yet. I know the OP said there was no opening date, but they also said employees were told... construction on the newest ride for Stratosphere will begin this month. ... and that was back in June, so I was just wondering if anything had happened yet. There was never an announcement from Stratosphere, and based on what themeparkman25 said it sounds like construction hasn't begun, so it looks like this project is delayed at best.
haiderodes Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I see the tower erryday and they havent done anything visible to the tower since the announcement. There have been many projects that have been announced over the years that have yet to come to fruition (even before the economy tanked). Thus, most locals tend to be skeptical till its actually open...por ejemplo CityCenter. Even though they start building it or even complete something, doesnt necessarily mean it will open.
ajm1240 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 No effen' way I would be able to do this. However, I would LOVE to see some of the videos that would come out of this thing in Vegas!
TheRapidsNerd Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I'll happily take pictures from the ground. Thanks.
rollercoasterbuff Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 As much as I love roller coasters, I am scared of heights like this. Going off the edge of a building... idk. my honest to God reaction would probably be to cry... knowing it'd be safe, yet still going through with it. I'd be trembling! That is an insane idea! Very cool... not at all for the faint of heart. I've gotten anxious just thinking about doing X-Scream or Insanity before. yikes! Cyrus
ajm1240 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 My knees would go like Jelly and I'd fall anyway. Hell, I've gotten the jelly legs on the Eiffel Tower at Kings Dominion a couple of times.
tanthonyam Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I would not call this a new "ride". Technically its not a ride.
jedimaster1227 Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/dec/17/new-thrill-ride-planned-atop-stratosphere/ The Stratosphere is looking to add a new attraction atop its observation deck for the ultimate thrill seeker. It’s called Sky Jump and it’s more like bungee jumping than a ride. The attraction’s Web site describes Sky Jump as “base jumping while attached to a wire.” A similar attraction in New Zealand features an 11-second free fall of 629 feet. American Casinos & Entertainment, which owns the Stratosphere, said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday that $3.6 million of its $22 million 2010 capital expenditure budget would be allocated for the Sky Jump. A spokesman for the Stratosphere said the property plans to make an official announcement on the attraction early next year, pending approval from the proper entities. City of Las Vegas spokesman Jace Radke said the Stratosphere will need to file plans with the city’s building and safety department, as well as get a building permit, certification and annual inspection, which the Stratosphere has yet to do. The process could take weeks, Radke said. The cost of New Zealand’s Sky Jump is $140 per jump. Prices for the Stratosphere’s three existing rides — Big Shot, X-Scream and Insanity, the Ride — cost $30 for an all-day pass.
Crazy4Coasters! Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 ^ Thanks for that quick update. I guess this project will take shape later rather than sooner.
Skycoastin Steve Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Ok that looks INSANE. Maybe crazier than a SCAD tower?
shepp Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Hell, and I thought I was kinda brave for riding the Kissimmee Sky Coaster this month. Oh well, this thing is only gonna be twice as high.
