The Sizzler

Recommended Posts

Has anybody rode this thing? It looks and functions like the Scrambler from Eli Bridge, but it's made by (I believe) Wisdom. Plus it's multi-colored unlike the Scrambler. But what make this even more different is its speed.

I rode one at the Ionia Free Fair in Michigan back in 2007 and it went not twice, but 3 times faster than a normal scrambler. It actually was really intense. Has anyone else ever rode the Sizzler?

There was a scrambler called Sizzler at Funland in Ulladulla (east coast of Australia) until about five years ago and this thing was so fast you felt like you were going to go back in time.

I wonder if this one got shipped over to the US when Funland got refurbished?

The Sizzler is wild! I fear for anyone who rides with me, lest they be repeatedly slammed into the side of the car by my Hip Bones of Doom.

isn't that kind of the whole point of The Sizzler? besides, rides aren't any fun unless they beat the shit out of you at least a little bit!

i'm still trying to figure out whether or not i've actually been on a Sizzler, though — i never really made a distinction between a Sizzler and a Scrambler before, or even heard anyone else make a distinction, so i just kind of remember them all as “Scramblers”, and chock up the different names, and styling, and whatnot, as being purely aesthetic! it never even occured to me that one might be faster than the other, or anything! i've been on some pretty fast and forceful Scrambler-esque rides, though, so… uh… maybe?

I have to disagree about Sizzlers; almost every Sizzler I've seen or been on was slow.

Even if it is run fast, they don't have the same whip effect that Eli Bridge Scramblers have due to Sizzlers being run by electric tire drives. Sometimes the motion isn't in sync because the tires slip, have too much weight on one side, etc. The Eli Bridge version uses a drive gear system that can keep both the cars and center hub at the same speed, producing that odd snap effect when changing direction.

Although, I think the Super Sizzlers can run backwards and can even have the cars and hub move in the same direction, which would offer up some insane laterals!

Now, if you want Scrambler from Hell, Breakdance is where it's at. That's pretty much a scrambler with spinning cars.

I don't feel Sizzlers are superior to Scramblers...I always thought they sucked/were weak.

Plus, they use tires to drive the rotating arms with the seats. If the tires are worn out, the seats won't accelerate good. I've been on a Sizzler where one of the "arms" wasn't even spinning because the tire was worn out.

EDIT: ooops, somebody already got to it

Yeah, sometimes they don't even spin! I remember going on the Super Sizzler once and these two really, uh...overweight people got into one car on the same arm as me. As the ride spun, their car would just fling out to the side, and the arm wouldn't even spin. The whole time, the tire just made this velcro ripping fart sound as it struggled to turn the arm even a little. That's the one Sizzler ride that stands out in my mind.

Sizzlers are the reason why I AVOID scrambler rides now, I get wayyy too much whiplash from them and I usually get off the ride with a really sore and stiff neck.

I will ride a normal Eli scrambler from time to time, but these things have seriously turned me off from riding them. I look at Cedar Point's and even shiver, just due to bad experiences with these Sizzler's.

Do you have any pictures of this? This sounds incredible. Of course, for an odd reason I want to see the carnie atmosphere of it. Call me strange but it's just me...

Pictures of the Sizzler? They're posted on page 2. It may sound incredible...but it doesn't look nearly as insane as its been made out to be!

  • 5 years later...

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I was just on the Eli Bridge scrambler at my local carnival, so thought I'd comment after finding this thread on google.

After just being on the scrambler, I can say that the ride's great, however, I didn't seem to remember any big difference between it and the sizzler in terms of ride experience. It's been a long time since I rode the sizzler, but from what I remember, it was just a nicer looking scrambler knock off with really uncomfortable restraints. While I can recall riding one park model scrambler (somewhere on the east coast of Canada) that seemed particularly forceful compared to the sizzler, that was it... Every other scrambler ride I've had has felt virtually the same as the sizzler (minus the sizzler's horrible restrains ).
