Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

P. 829: Adventure Port themed area announced for 2023!

Intamin doesn't really seem much more innovative in terms of brand new elements. They just disguise the same elements well. Intamin coasters seem to have more turns and direction changes than B&M does (except for Raging Bull). MF, Goliath, GeForce, NE's S:ROS, Thunder Dolphin (sorta)...they all have prominent and extended sections of curving/turning/helix-ing track, with several airtime hills thrown in as well.

B&M's hypers tend to follow much more linear paths. Apollo, Silver Star, Hollywood Dream, Behemoth, Goliath #1, Goliath #2, and even Nitro and Diamondback...they have 2 or 3 long lines of hills, with quick hammerheads, helices, w/e turning the train around at times.

Just an observation I made checking all the hypers for "unique", "one-of-a-kind", "never before seen" elements...

I still look forward to riding as many of those as possible, especially Diamondback.

^Trust me, if it's anything like Sheikra's splashdown it'll feel just like a straight piece of track that it is.

This looks like a good ride for the park, and in general. It looks like smaller and more compact Behemoth to me. I guess I have to go back to Kings Island now, oh dear....

Whoever was saying that Intamin hypers were all "innovative" with their elements, give me a break. That stengal dive that Goliath at Walibi World has hardly looks any different from the hammerhead/overbanked turn that Goliath at SFOG has. I don't see their "stengal dive as all that innovative."

Uhh...Goliath (WW) opened in 2002. Goliath (SFOG) opened in 2007. So how does that make the stengel dive not innovative? If anything, that would make the hammerhead turn less innovative...

Well, you also have to look at all the other elements on Intamin hypers. There are low-lying turns taken at high speed (not found on any B&M hyper), hills featuring quick direction changes at the apex (not found on any B&M hyper), Stengel dive (which is innovative. There's no reason that hill should be banked the way it is, whereas the hammerhead turns are banked because they need to be in order to not kill the riders), Stengel drop (GeForce's drop is different than any other hyper coaster's drop), cable lifts (although now common on many Intamin coasters, it was a new innovation when Millennium was built, and a useful one at that), mix of hills with twister sections that is not predictable (Yes, the B&M hypers may have helices, but they are in very predictable locations, like at the far end of the track or right before the MCBR or final brake run), high-speed turnarounds (although a few new B&M hypers are taking their turnarounds at higher speeds, which is a good thing), and many other things.

Don't get me wrong, I like both B&M and Intamin coasters, but Intamin is more willing to try new things, which is why I think many people are upset with the lack of innovation with Diamondback (although, I still feel that people that were expecting innovation with the new ride should never have gotten their hopes up). But that is also the reason why many Intamin coasters have troubles when they are new, and the reason parks like to go with B&M coasters. Everything B&M does has been tried and proven, and their rides are loved by the general public, which makes perfect business sense when buying a ride. B&M and Intamin are just different is all. They have their own niches in the amusement world, which is a good thing, while still both being the major steel coaster designers.

I just thought of something. When I was looking at the pictures and animations I didnt see any splash area around the splash down pond. Like what Shiekra and Griffon have where on lookers can watch and also end up getting soaked. I know that these are pictures and stuff but I was just wondering do you guys think there will be a Splash/Soak Zone or no?

Kind of like this

I hope they'll build a deck or walkway over where the water splash is. The water splash would kind of be pointless otherwise.

I've only gotten to the 12th page of this thread, but everyone's complaining is pathetic.

The first few posts appeared to be jokes.

Then people actually seemed to have something to complain about!

I'm sick of everyone who has gone "credit-whoring" around to parks, instead of going to parks to enjoy the coasters.

These people think they have a reason to complain about two rides being similar! If a ride is great, it is going to be copied.

If you don't like it, then just ride the one closest to you.

Besides, Diamondback looks awesome, and I actually enjoy coasters that give a smooth, flying high feel as opposed to fast forceful ejector coasters.

I'm pretty tired of it as well. So many people have been saying that "Kings Island needs a quality coaster" (even though I think they already have many) and that they are getting one people are still complaining! It's total BS!

^ Thank You for that...

I'm all for opinions, but that doesn't mean they don't suck just cause their yours. This is the same sort of whining that we got when Behemoth was announced. And now here it is a year later and I've read nothing but praise for it.

I also really don't understand why people go around to parks to just get credits and only like the most intense, world-class coasters out there. I know when I'm at Cedar Point, not only do I have fun on every ride I ride (except the ferris wheel. God I hate those things), but I make sure I don't pass by the smaller, less ridden rides. I have just as much fun on Mine Ride, Corkscrew, Iron Dragon, Wildcat, and even Disaster Transport (especially DT actually) as I do on Maverick, Millennium, Magnum, Raptor, or Dragster. Sure, those rides may not get my adrenaline pumping like their bigger siblings, but they are certainly fun, especially when riding with the right people. Nothing like over-dramatic reactions to flying through dark rooms themed to Alaska at relatively slow speeds.

If you have just as much fun on crap rides as you do on fancier rides, then why bother traveling to Cedar Point at all? Just go to Kings Island and save a ton of money.

This coaster looks GREAT. So it has potential. I'm not going to say it's already better than Goliath, Maverick, or any other of my top coasters. This should be a really really nice ride, and hopefully KI will get it right as far as the operations. They already have the ride down, now they just need to push for great operators that talk a lot, (which the guy said that they are having only ride ops that have been with the park for a good while), and some okay themeing.

I'm not so excited for the splash down as everyone else might be...I think it will be cool to see the first time, but then the effect will wear off. And yeah...as far as on the ride it's just a straight piece of track, nothing really fantastic there.

Can't wait for next year.

Yeah, I have kind of the same feeling about the water splash. The only reason that I could really appreciate it is if they make an area for people to get wet from the splash. The only other purpose fro it would be for the visual aspect of it; or photogenic aspect.
