GCI Wooden Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Yes I sang the famous Log Flume song with my kids the entire ride. Well, that's mandatory for all log flume rides, right?
thrillrider Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 We are planning on hitting the park tomorrow mainly to process our passes. I am sure with the combination of great weather and opening weekend, the lines will be crazy long. I will be happy if we can get on the big 3 (banshee, the beast, and diamondback), and get some skyline chili.
JRice92 Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I'll be at the park tomorrow as well. For anyone else that'll be there I'll be wearing a black shirt that says. "Got Roller Coaster?" Feel free to stop and say hi!
Coaster Curt Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I know I have seen it posted here before but couldn't seem to find the answer. Anyway, what are some of the better places to eat while in the park? Going to be there all day so need at least 2 choices to try, thanks.
JRice92 Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 ^Skyline Chili in thee Coney Mall section across from The Racer. I ALWAYS have a meal here when I head to the park.
Ape Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Potato works in Rivertown. My wife and I love the chili cheese fries from there.
whatabeast Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I second Potato Works for sure, I go there every time. Best fries I've had in Ohio.
Ape Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 It has to be the Rivertown one though because the fries at coney mall potato works are different.
thrillrider Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Skyline chili. .. Interesting note to add, the folded park maps are no longer available. Instead, they have a full sheet park map.
Whodey Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I do not like the new maps. I always have hated parks that have the big maps like SeaWorld. The folded ones are so much easier to deal with except La Ronde where it folds up way too small. Also the SR&R line is goofy. Hope they fix that. You'll understand when you do it with not many people there.
thrillrider Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 A cedar fair employee just told me that all the parks are switching to this style map now.
Koasterking48 Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Personally, I see nothing wrong with using sheets instead. You can still fold the map anyways since it is just paper. It does, however, not look as nice folded up if you collect park maps as souvenirs.
drummermattk Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I couldnt get enough pics for a full trip report but i got at least 5. Opening day was a struggle for some places in the park. Although i never waited an hour for Vortex, Diamondback, Banshee, The Bat or Race For Your Life Charlie Brown. I did manage to wait an hour for my food The New Coke Marketplace was something else, I didnt go in there but my friend who works in there said today was a nightmare. Other than that always a fun time going to the park. I did not score a first riders shirt for the gliders but i did notice two small things around two rides that get a lot of attention. First ride was Vortex. At The Base of the drop, if i remember correctly, there was a tree line. That tree line is now gone and there are a couple of cones along with a dirt/ gravel road near it (i didnt snag a pic i was in a hurry. Sorry.). Second was The Bat, which i did manage to snag a pic of and it looks like there cutting down some trees but it may just be that they dont want an incident like Ninja lol. SR&R looked amazing, although the queve line was a little funky. The tower gardens only got new pavement and yes it is still Smoker heaven lol. I have yet to start working at the park, mainly because i still have two more classes to take but be on the lookout for me on Race For Your Life Charlie Brown! The new white girl paradise (A.K.A. Starbucks) is BEAUTIFUL on the inside. Also for some odd reason, Invertigo was closed and my good friend said that it would be closed for a while. Anyone have any thoughts or heard why? Crowd wasnt that big at opening..... First rides of the day, and im up to 104 rides on Banshee so far! The trees are in the middle of the pic, might have to zoom in.. SR&R looking good. Overall a okay day at the park
adamico2 Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 It appears that the Coney Mall sign has been removed. I wonder if it's gone for good.
drummermattk Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 ^ i honestly didnt notice that. Im heading to the park saturday for my rides general knowledge class and ill be in the park afterwards. ill try to snap a couple more pics
tanthonyam Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 How cool is that? A park general knowledge rides class. Sign me up!
Coaster Curt Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I had read somewhere that last season the FL line for Banshee the operators were directing people where to sit. Is that going on again this year does anyone know?
JRice92 Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Yesterday while I was there someone pointed out to me there was a snapped cable hanging from the top of the lift on Invertigo, so that's why it'll be an extended doenwtime. On another note The Beast was giving absolutely fantastic rides last night, noticed lots of new wood during my day ride. And the night ride I took last night was one of the best I've had, the train was really hauling through the course! I'll have pictures posted maybe late tonight or tomorrow.
John Peck Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 I was there yesterday as well, but brought the camera in for the second half of the day. We purchased the season-long dining plan for the first time, and the computer was having some issues syncing to website renewals, but I think they got it fixed by the time we had our second meal. Festhaus ran out of ketchup at around 6:30 pm. The Flyers or "Flying bEagles" (courtesy of Dave Althoff) were "just okay" for my two rides (25 and 40 minute waits). I'm not saying they are bad, these felt like they were on a medium speed (compared to other Larson models I have been on), so they were a bit hard to snap, so I got just a slight cable slacking, the cycle was also 1:30, which by the time you got a good rhythm, it was ending, so I'm sure adjustments will be made. The Coney Mall sign is down, but Don said it will return. Took a spin through the new shops.. Sweet Spot, Funnel cake, and starbucks, they all looked great. The recently refurbished Shake Rattle and Roll looks and runs great, but there seems to be a hydraulic shakey-feel as the arms lift. Invertigo like mentioned is down, and the area has a portable fence around it, you can see the cable that is hanging off the lift in one of my photos. The smoking area has had the waterfall removed and the area has been slightly cleaned up and a bit beautified. The waterfall has been removed and there is new concrete leading to Coney Mall Some trees removed around SR&R Spring is here! SR&R has sort of a new observation area New sign! You can see the LED light fixture, but the lights aren't in just yet. Never Forget Hungry Dino likes to eat Drop Towers! You can see the cable dangling off Invertigo Land of the free, home of the brave.
coasterbill Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Did the eternal flame burn out? Oh well... I guess nobody cares about Son of Beast anymore. lol
DarienLaker Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Did the eternal flame burn out? Oh well... I guess nobody cares about Son of Beast anymore. lol I think the flame was just put out when Kings Island closed for the season.
prozach626 Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Did the eternal flame burn out? Oh well... I guess nobody cares about Son of Beast anymore. lol Looks like they took a page out of Six Flags' book with an effect already non existent after season one.
Whodey Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I also felt that weird vibration at the beginning of the ride cycle on SRR. I hope it doesn't turn into something bad for the ride. They need to fix the line though. It's bad when the ride ops tell you to jump over the railing to get on the ride. I thought it was just the long off season and I was excited but Beast was running awesome or faster. I did t notice too much re-tracking if any at all. Most of it was from last year re-tracking. On the second hill half the train made it to the step platform which seemed more than usual. Never like seeing random cords/wires hanging from lift hills. I always like hearing Invertigo riders scream as I walk from the parking lot into the park.
thrillrider Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Full opening day report here...... http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=70184
