Europa Park Discussion Thread

P. 93: Monaco will become the 18th themed area at Europa-Park

I think there will be a few elements on the ride which could suprise people - not least the station fly through which will bank slightly and suddenly to throw the riders towards the waiting line. I think the speed of this coaster will be the most impressive element.

GCI are probably perfect for EP.

I haven't ridden any but GCI's sound like my kind of ride. I'm into airtime, don't get me wrong, but a smooth, fast paced, exciting twisted layout is more than enough for me! This ride looks like it'll be great.

Well...I´ll try to be thankful for what my homepark is getting...and I think that I will have loads of fun on Wodan...for shure.

But I just need to take a look a the sensational TPR/Balder Video...and my heart is bleeding a littlebit, cause I so totally LOVE the Intamin ejector air

What I really find to be interesting is that you say that GCI is the B&M of wooden coasters. Come on, Robb...are the really that bad ?

^I prefer the Intamin woodies, too, but GCI has made plenty of great rides (for example, Lightning Racer, Troy, Prowler, Apocaypse, and Renegade). I like what I've seen of Wodan so far.

Why not? They both will not build a coaster that is worthy calling a family-ride. No they both build only Thrills some of a low level but always a Thrill. I had a ride on George and the Dragon one of the easy GCI coasters but it was worth to call it a low level thrill. B&M is probably the best steal coaster builder thanks to there unique coaster list (Flying, (only company that build) diving, stand-up and wing-riders). Also there rides are always smooth and comfortable. GCI is probably the best wooden coaster builder thanks to there unique building style (instead of make the bents prefab the construct the whole coaster on the construction site). There rides are a little rough through the fact the being build by hands what makes a wooden coaster feels like they must (my opinion) plus they have the most comfortable seats of all the wooden coasters. Both companies are specialist in one of the two types (steel or wood). So they are the same but also the complete opposite of each other. So Saying GCI is the B&M of Wooden coasters I'm in here whit Robb.

Wodan looks also very Thrilling to me, but being the fastest wooden coaster of Europa has some expectations whit it. I'm quite curious about the trains. I've seen a lot of standard Millennium flyer trains but (definitely in Dutch parks) that the trains can be themed very good. I must say I think it is one of the best decisions to build a GCI wooden coaster from Europa park.

It should be a solid enjoyable ride. GCI coasters are all fun. If you rode and enjoyed any of the existing GCIs I would expect a similar type ride. As Robb said, GCI doesn't push the limits in terms of ejector air but their coasters hold up very well and usually provide a consistent ride. A ride that the whole family can enjoy.

I've only been on one GCI that doesn't fall into my top 50 woodies. TPR rode that same woodie a week later and said is was running great, so I guess I caught it on a bad day.

You guys still have Colossos...

^ I'm pretty sure Vekoma still manufactures Flying Dutchman/Stingray

Probably, but no one wants them anymore . Understandable because B&M's versions are way better!

I'm realy looking forward to Wodan! I think it will be not the biggest thrill but a real fun coaster from the begining until the end!

Right now I'm so excited to see how they will theme the coaster and the area around it. The entrance looks already stunning!

Hahahaha...

That was a good one

Alex...I´m the last one who will be bashing or complaining about Colossos...I´m still happy to have one of those HUGE Intamin woodies close.

But hey...I´m living about a one and a half hour drive away from Holiday Park...that means GeForce on a one day trip...who needs Colossos then

I was just hoping for an airtime machine next door...but STILL I feel blessed for being here in Germany. Although I love ejector air I would ALWAYS prefer to live in an area where I have those heavily themed parks close like Europa, Phantasia, Efteling etc.

And besides : Compared to the lifthill, the layout of Wodan is kind of flat...so maybe...although I`m shure the ride will feel quite short...it will STILL kick "####"

But if you're in the camp that LOVES Intamin ejector air, Gravity Group ejector air, you'll probably find most GCI's to be a bit tame, yet VERY enjoyable.

If you're in the camp that loves B&Ms gracefullness and the ability to produce some forces while still delivering a solid ride, you'll LOVE GCIs.

GCIs simply lack the layouts for airtime. Most of them start with a curving first drop, followed by lots of twists and turns. You need straight drops for air time.

Posted

^No, definitely not. GCI has a way of twisting and turning while throwing you out of your seat with small pops and the like. The "dead man's turn" on Terminator is a good example, as well as the small dips on Wildcat or the pops towards the end of American Thunder/Thunderhawk. It isn't extreme airtime, but there is plenty of it in most of their layouts.

Posted

GCI's IMO offer the best airtime... I just LOVE how they pack ejector air into the curvy dips and hops throughout the course. I prefer this over the standard straight hills for sure. I love me some Wildcat, Thunderhead, Roar, etc... Lightning Racer has probably the least forceful layout, and doesn't count

Posted

^I'm really trying to stay out of this but come on...you really feel that GCI's have "ejector air throughout the course"?

GCI's have some floater air and some 'little pops' of air here and there. I sometimes see enthusiasts do the 'fake' airtime thing where they push up with their feet to get better airtime, that's the only way I could see someone claim the 'ejector' air on a GCI.

Posted (edited)

Yeah, there is no "ejector air" on any GCI coaster I've ever ridden. Nice little "pops" of air, but "ejector?" No. When I think of "Ejector" air, I think of the back seat of Cyclops, the 2nd hill of El Toro, the double down on Jack Rabbit, 11 spots on Balder, the "bridge" on Ravine Flyer II, and about every hill of the New Texas Giant.

I've never experienced anything like this on any GCI coaster. That's not a bad thing, it's just simply not their style.

I think the closest GCI has ever gotten to ejector air is the third hill on Prowler's "triple down" and the hill that follows.

I don't even think it really matters on this ride if there was to be ejector air or not. All that matters is that this is a great family/thrill coaster for what is already pretty much the best or close to the best theme park in the world. It suits their target audiences perfectly.

The theming should pretty much be the best on any wooden coaster, also.

hmm... don`t want to disappoint you but there is an artwork from the EP which shows trains!

but i know...this is still an artwork and it don`t have to present the final trains and it seems like they used the trains from "troy"(like in the trailer), if you want to compare you can look at one pic from troy here http://www.freizeitpark-welt.de/freizeitparks/toverland/fotos/2008/troy06.jpg

EDIT: and some new pics from http://chris-space.net/?incvar=bilder.php&path=news/2012/2012_01_30/

some track-parts get their metal rails:

Just to throw my two cents into the GCI airtime debate, I've always felt that GCI's in the front seat give great little "pops of ejector" air. Not crazy OMFG ejector air like Cyclops, but good pops or out of your seat air kind of like the bunny hops on Magnum. To me GCI are fairly consistent in that most every one I've been has that kind of air in the front seat but nothing more than really good "floater" air throughout the rest of the train.

Guess that this is some direction of how they going to look. So complete black lap bar whit red seats and a wooden box (don't mean that its made from wood but themed as wood) in the front whit the name. I think its only the sides that would be chanced because I hate it when the copy the Troy one's. I like to see some originality in the theming and it looks silly the red seats whit the dark wooden sides. But no doubt they gonna look awesome.
